If you thought that Disney+Square Enix on Kingdom Hearts was strange, get ready for Epic Mickey... I mean, look at those artworks!

The news so far is that the game is being developt by Junction Point (Warren Spector's studios) and it's planned to be released on the Wii.
I dont know about you, but I'm looking forward for this.

Ugh... Wii. If only had a time machine so I could stop myself from buying that system.

But anywho the art looks amazing! Escape from Disney.

It's gonna be on the Wii, so while it may look great I'm sure it's gonna play like shit. Even my blind love for No More Heroes wont let me get past the attrocious controls that the Wii has to offer.

At the very least, the concept art looks pretty.

here you go. When you post a link just highlight it and press the "Link" button.

And those are some really cool concept sketches. Disney games have never been my thing... Neither has the Wii, but this does look pretty cool.

I was just about to do what ParkerFarker had already done. It's much more handy to have it in a comfortable clicky mode.

I have to say that I don't fully trust the foundation of that castle. Definitely an interesting twist on the otherwise pretty pretty happiness that is the Disney world. But concept art is one think. How will they do building up the actual game?
Those were my two cents.

Looks interesting but you can't tell much about game from videos, less about screenshots and even LESS about concept art. As it's on the Wii I immediately distrust it.

Mario Galaxy didn't "play like shit". There's always a chance the game will play just fine, if you don't generalize based on the developers who didn't make very good use of the Wii.

Here's what you SHOULD be worried about: These images were found in a concept artist's online portfolio. This means either the images "leaked" and this guy's in big trouble, or visuals have shifted enough that these don't represent the game they're currently working on. OR, the game is canceled. Employees aren't allowed to use game assets in their portfolio unless the game has been released or officially canceled.

I would say the ratio of "games that play like shit" to "games that are passable" is much more in favor of my argument than yours.

Disagree. Mario Galaxy's controls were garbage.

New information about the game that I gleamed off Joystiq, and they gleamed off of CVG:

Today, CVG has posted some info from an anonymous source about the design of the game, which makes it sound kind of Okami-like, in that player interact with levels by painting directly onto them with the Wii Remote. "This 'painting your way' involves you drawing, etching and erasing whole or parts of levels as you go." Unsurprisingly, given the reliance on the pointer, CVG says the game is a Wii exclusive.

The story CVG describes had better be the real story. "We've also been told that it'll be based around very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey," according to the site, "presumably because they're jealous of all his fame and fortune." Lending credence to this storyline is the fact that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit can be seen on the rocket in the above artwork.

I think that sounds kind of cool.

Nah, because it only takes one good game to prove that it can be done right. And given the kind of control they were talking about in the above quote (pointing and painting) their choice of the Wii seems like it makes sense.

Man, I don't know what Epic Mickey is about, but I want it. Because anything that turns Disney into a post-apocalyptic (or at least that's what it looks like) world cannot be that bad.

Here's a big pile of similar pictures.

Let's hope that the game gets be half as good as those concepts.

Shplane's just got a chip on his shoulder about anything on a Nintendo system.

I think the concept sounds really cool and art is intriguing, now I'm just waiting to actually see the game at work before I get really excited.

I couldn't help noticing the paint brush in "blob-Mickey's" hand. The rumors of it being a "paint your way through" type of game is becoming more and more plausible.

Now there's only one thing I hate about the game so far. The "Wii exclusive" part. While I understand the need to make exclusive games for the various consoles, the whole progress irks me because every once in a while an exclusive title shows up that I'd like to try out. However, being a person with limited amount of funds in my hands, I'm certainly not gonna be buying every type of console out there for every generation, just for the chance to play a handful of exiting looking games.

I just liked the good old days when there was just the NES and you didn't need to worry about needing to choose between different platforms, picking one over the other in the hopes that most of the good games would come out for that one.
Those were my two cents.

The new Game Informer is out in some places, and the game looks absolutely nuts. I don't know if I have the energy to give the entire shpeal, but the guys involved with this project sound like they really know what they're doing--and they're very passionate about the game. The game is definitely confirmed and the game is definitely as dark as the concept art made it look. They're really playing around with what people think Mickey Mouse is supposed to be.

It looks like the entire concept is that we can make people interested by turning Disney into creepy stuff.

Disney is already creepy enough .

They're creepy when you take into consideration that the target audience are little kids who'll have a hard time understanding what's going on.

Take this dumbo video for an example.

This part of the movie is famous for giving kids nightmares.

The Dumbo example is creepy, but apart from the Snow White example those others that were posted really weren't creepy. There were creepier moments in Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, Disney's Christmas Carol, The Black Cauldron, and Tarzan. I don't know too many kids who got freaked out over the end of Mulan, the Incredibles or the Lion King. Even the Jack and the Beanstalk example isn't that creepy. I'm not saying Disney doesn't have it's share of creepy moments, but I wouldn't really count most of Atom Apple's examples as among them.

Tarzan is a delightful example. Considering that most Disney villains just... tumble off a cliff or otherwise die off screen, the end of Tarzan's villain was pretty vivid.

And horrifying.

It's mostly how out of place it all feels that makes the artwork unsettling. The torn out Monstro with the Epcot Center inside it, the mutated/cyborg Goofy and all that. Spending years getting familiar with these happy happy characters on T-shirts and lunchboxes, seeing them warped and contorted and ripped from their usual level of familiarity is... well, maybe not frightening, but it does feel a tad discomforting.

I know little kids aren't going to see it as creepy, in fact I think it's creepier as adults because we can now consider that little kids watch a movie where a guy got completely obliterated by a firework, or sucked into and shredded by a jet turbine, or being eaten alive by a hundred hyenas. Of course it doesn't seem very creepy because as long as you don't actually show it and have a wacky animal sidekick nearby it seems like the happiest way to go.

Also I wanted to post other creepier examples but I gave up finding them on Youtube in a format that doesn't require you to sit through 5 minutes to get to the good part.

I was just reading my Game Informer about this. Disney just bought back the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the original "Mickey Mouse" before Walt Disney lost the rights to the character some 80 years ago.

Apartly there's also the 'Good and Evil Choice' mechanic to the story. Or as evil as they'll allow you to make Mickey Mouse. From what I've read, the 'meaner' your gameplay style is in the game the more rat like Mickey will apparently look.

I'm really suprised Disney's going through with this. I wouldn't think they'd let even the slightest risk of Mickey looking less that absolutely wholesome.
