One of my favorites from Star Ocean: Second Story/Evolution is Ashton Anchors. I like how he's got two dragons on his back and he wields two swords, but I'll never understand his obsession with... barrels.

The recent Atelier games seem to exhibit the same obsession. For some reason, when characters come across a barrel they must vocalize that what they are looking at is in fact a barrel. They don't do this for any other items. Maybe the Japanese just like the word "taru"?

I have a gun. It's really powerful. Especially against living things.

Ethan Waber, from Phantasy Star Universe. He has this big childhood trauma thing going on, and he gets over it before the actual game starts. There isn't even a reason, he just suddenly has no issues whatsoever.
Actually, I don't understand any of that game. How can an android age like a human? What the fuck was going on with the Vol brothers? It makes my brain hurt.

Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

There's also Muza from Thousand Arms. Big strong warrior who looks like he can kick the butts of 30 men all by himself, but he freezes the moment he sees a beautiful girl...

Most people in Oblivion. What's the deal with them and mudcrabs?
People seem to think you can't be called The Cap'm, unless you drive a boat. Well, I don't. I don't.

I would have to agree on Cloud's change in attitude. In the game he only was emo and crying for roughly the first half, but he started to man up and face reality near the end, setting a firm goal for himself.
Then Advant came along - which sucked anyway - and made him back into a blubbering bitch.
