I'm just really curious, to the people who do RP out there, what games do you play? Which systems do you prefer? etc... really any kind of opinion you have on RPGs and RPing.

For myself, I'm a LARP fan (shush). I don't do any real LARPs (aka NERO or V:tM... what's it called? Mind's Eye Theater?) just two that my friends made: The Last Age and The Dreaming.
Did you know, LARPing is huge in Europe and every year there's an event in Germany where people from LARPs from all over can intergate their characters and play for a week long event - it's pretty amazing. Oh, and apparently there's going to be a LARP award show - the LARPees...this may have already happened, or it's going to happen...*shrugs*

As far as combat in LARPs go, I'm a total boffer and spell-paket fan - hitting people over the head with foam swords and bird seed balls... it's pretty fun and a lot like playing pretend. I loathe the RPS Vampire Larp style fighting... LOATHE.

I GMed The Dreaming my junior year in college which was pretty fun - the world was inspired by Gaiman's Sandman series and American Gods - it was fun.

I've played D&D which -while I odn't think is the most elegent of Table Top systems, gets the job done and allows for some pretty fun dungeon crawling campaigns - no great big plot, but lots of group RP...
Also played Werewo;f: the Apocalypse - fun
Mage: the Ascension, briefly. It was fun, btu I don't have any real opinions on it yet, cause we only got to play it 3 days.
Vampire the Masquerade - fun, great fun, easy to just jump right into
and Mythus - which is my favorite setting. Also because it takes a really long time to create your character you become attached to it and are far more careful with them, because you don't want to take 6 hours to create another one.

My favorite di system is White Wolf's the math is just easier for me. I also like rolling lots of dice at once.

I also ran (with some friendS) a Harry Potter RPG board on ezboard... it was fun, but more of a writing exercise, which in itself was fun, you know?

Well, that's all from me... for mow.. .I suppose.

As sad as this will sound, I'm a hard core 'free lance' Rper. I go onto AIM and Rp with my friends with our own characters and our own universes.

XD I am vehemently against table top role playing. And apparently most table toppers are agaisnt internet Rping (as shown in an argument I had with a table top and his friends).

I love to play games, with my favorites being 'button mashers', as I'm not a hard core gamer. I wuv Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Kart 64, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic: The Hedgehog, and Golden Eye 64.

I generally only play RPGs in video game format, which I suppose is a very different concept since the only creative input is generally just the name of some of the characters...

I do both online and tabletop RPGs, and it is a very different feeling. The fun of online is that you don't have to wait until everyone can get together and you can play with people from all over the world. With tabletop I have met a lot of my best friends(and two former boyfriends) through gaming.

I will play pretty much any system, but I have been playing a game called "Ars Magica" on Sundays for about six years. I play with one person who played in the first game I was in.

Ars just went into a fifth edition. It seems to much more popular in Europe then here in the states. The people who first creatd the system went on to work with White Wolf on "Mage." In fact White Wolf owned Ars for a while during its 2nd edition.

Ars is different from many games since it is geared to having multiple storyguides and also when you play it you have multiple characters. There are Mages, Companions, and Grogs. Each person plays one Mage and one Companion, and any number of Grogs that might be needed. Ars is set in Mythic Europe, currently in the 13th century.

In our game the recently deceased Pope declared all Magi excommunicated and we are on the run from the church on a sailing ship.

Other games I've played recently:

Star Trek- We are playing the older D6 version.
Low Life - A game which uses the Savage Worlds system where you play non-human characters in a post-apocolyptic world.

The greatest RPG is by far oblivion. You ride a horse off a cliff.

I tried table top once... but I had the bad luck to play with people who wasn't that good at it. "So then I ..umm...toss....an... fire ball at the dragon.. oh wait, I take that back! I think I'll go with the freezing spell. but then again, maybe the fireball would be more effective. what do you think?"

so I lost interst in that.

I'm more into interenet rpgs.. over msn, yahoo or whatever. that way you can type whatever you want and stuff, and then sit back and surf something else until the person responds. instead of sitting across the same person and staring at her/him until that person makes up his/her damn mind about the spells!

I also love pc rpgs and whatnot. they're also excellent. Yeah, the newer FF's aren't really rpgs. but I did like the old school ones... now they were really rpgs back then.
I like to play morrowwind III: elder scrolls.

as for morrpgs, I love them too.
I play conquer online a lot.. I have an husband on there plus an house too. and the husband is actually another player too.
unfountely, a lot of the people on CO aren't really roleplayers, but more like "I pwn your ass, noob!" types.... but I do have a few good friends on there who actually roleplays.

the same for dedicie online.

also Civlization II...while that's not actually an rp game, a friend of mine and I have actually roleplayed though that mulitiplayer.
"I am Cleporita, queen of eygpt. why do you dare bring your troops into my fair land?"
"I am alexander the great!"

you get the idea.

as for my roles in those games... I usually love playing an magic class. but at the same time, I also love swords and whips.. so it depends lol
I'm on hitatus while I redo one of my webcomics. Be sure to check it out when I'n done! :)

yeah. I know what you mean. muds don't do much for me...
if I wanted to do text rpgs, then I'd rather play with my friends over the net. at least they can describe more in detail about the world or whatnot..

instead of going:

There are mountains to the north. a road leading west. southeast is an signpost and another road. blah blah...

which way would you like to go?

I love playing stuff like that. At my old school we had a club that was basiclly Dungeons and Dragons for People who Don't Want to Learn a Whole Bunch of Rules and Stuff. It was pretty much just me making a story that changed with the choices the other players made. That was so much fun.

yeah. that was the other reason why I never got into table tops.... all those rules and shit.

it's like, why need an damn dice to dedice how an battle turns out? and all those other stupid rules...
I'm not very good at memorizing stuff...

I like rping when it's more like "go with the flow" type...

...I actually used to play a few games of that myself when I was in art school... I even bought a 40K scale Eldar titan, (which is gigantic compared to the normal miniatures). But the gaming was too much hassel, I just liked modeling the figures and painting them funky colours. My eldar Dreadnaught had beaded dreadlocks...

Ok, embarrassing moment over.
