It would be better if I knew what the baby was possibly FOR. I can't understand the language they're speaking (which is Korean? I can't tell. But the subtitles were Japanese...)

ok I saw a small thing about it on TV. It has this rubbery body so it can move more human like. It has sensors ALL over so when you touch it, it looks at you. It cannot walk, but if you grab it and pull it up, it learns to stand on its own. If you squeeze its arm too hard, it will talk.

i've seen robotic systems like this before. they start complately blank with only some basic skills on their own movement. they then learn how to control themselves and do things they weren't specifically programmed to do. do a search for MIT's cog robot. i think youtube has some videos.

Incidentally, a good friend once told me - he probably read it somewhere - that theorists believe that before you have a life-like androids you will have a stage where the robotitrons end up looking horrific because they're close but there's just something off about them. Thus, they remind us of our humanity but at the same time we know just by looking that these constructs are entirely inhuman.

I think that's why I'm scared of TV/movie traditionally depicted aliens. ^_^ They're humanoid, yet all stretched out and horrific. Ew. *Shudder*
