That and Metroid were about the only games like that.

Majority of the Wii library are party games and in that category most of those are just 'mini-game' games. (i.e. WarioWare)

I find it interesting that this topic turned from helping someone with Red Steel into a whole discussion about the Nintendo Wii and it's games.

The thing about the Wii is that it was pretty much made be to played with friends. Everytime I hear about a game for the Wii, I almost always end up with 'it sucked, except when I was playing it with friends'. If it's single player only, it sucks, full stop.

No i think that mario galaxy proved that it is POSSIBLE to have a good single player game for the wii but ONLY if nintendo does it. i dare someone to prove me wrong.

Does Resident Evil 4: Wii edition count? Because I think that game is vastly improved by the simple Wii mechanic of being able to point at things, and the motion sensing is kept to a relative minimum. Only problem; it was technically a Gamecube/PS2 game ported to the Wii...

Anyway, normally I try to keep threads from going this off-topic, but I know that there's not much to say about Red Steel, so we might as well let this thread be about something more interesting.

I'm not sure about how it being a port affects it, but I DO have something to say about the pointing.

My biggest problem with RE4 is that it took away the sense of "OMG I'M FUCKED". There were a few reasons why the earlier games were so great at this.

1: All of the enemies looked rape-tastic. It seemed like everything else was horrifying and super-badass. RE4 lost this because most of the enemies turned into basically just people. Personally, I don't find people to be all that scary. Even if they DO have bugs in them.

2: The general atmosphere. The whole "Post Apocalyptic" looks of 2 and 3 really added to it, and the sense of claustrophobia brought on by the enclosed spaces from ALL of the early ones added to the mood. You always fealt hemmed in. This dissapeared when RE4 moved into generally being out in open spaces with more freedom to move around.

3: Leon was a badass. It's harder to feel scared when the character you're playing as is awesome.

4: The aiming. It was easier to aim, and therefore made it feel less like you were fucked. Also you had 'nades. 'Nades+explosions=/=scary.

Now did you notice 4? By making it easier to aim with the pointing from the Wiimote, that WORSENED this problem which already existed.

Now if you're looking for an action game, the Wiimote controls are better. But if you, like me, want your RE game to be a survival horror, it's better to stick with the original controls.

There's a whole camp of people who felt like Resident Evil 4 was some kind of jumping of the shark, and the series was better off before, with the fixed cameras and tank controls. I'm not one of those people. I feel like RE4 was technology finally allowing the series to become what it was supposed to.

But when it comes down to it, RE4 and any game previous are pretty much two different types of game. You have to chose which type of game you like more, and if it's the pre-RE4 stuff, you're gonna be sad because it looks like Capcom's following the RE4 method.

I can't wait for RE5. That's probably the point where I'll finally buy a PS3 or Xbox360.

It wasn't meant to be scary or to be a survival horror genre.

It was more of an action game with zombies. Think of Call of Duty but with Zombies and Magic...and some young blonde girl who is often captured.

Besides that, a survival horror game would be more like Fatal Frame, Clocktower, Silent Hill (in a sense) and a few others.

Actually, I never found the controls in Mario Party 8 all that hard. What I did find frustrating was the randomness of the game. It's entirely possible to completely overpower everyone else in the game and still lose. There are even minigames that have no skill involved, only luck.
