-The other me-

A comic that looks interesting and most likely has a good story to it, but for now, I'm just going to go over first impressions.

As soon as I clicked TOM, it was... messy. The pages layouts are fine, but it's really what's inside of the panels that sort of... turns me off. The inking is sort of messy (and from what I can tell, the inking is done with a thin ink pen) and the art is a little smudged.

Lets go over the text some. The text is legible, but doesn't look good all the time. Also, you don't use speech bubbles or lines to show who is talking, so it could be very easy to get the two talkers confused with each other.

The story? Well, as far as I can tell, it looks like a sort of "Sci-fi" hits "romantic comedy" sort of thing... but don't trust me when it comes to story lines. I would guess that it's good, but the first impressions of the comic just sort of... turn people away before they can even get into it.

T.O.M is a comic that, although looks a little messy, is vastly improving with every page. I think a little colour or B&W shading thrown on that would make it look fantastic, but, let it just get there slowly for now.

I'm giving it, a 2.5/5.
Updates Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's (depends).

2's A Company is a comic made by Priest Revan. One thing is abundantly clear; Furries, lots of them. However, for a comic that's colored without the use of a computer, the quality on this is high. The writing is actually clear and looks professional. I like the way Revan draws, his characters are drawn realistically and doesn't try hard to be a furry comic, which I like. That is, not making a big deal that it's a comic with furries for characters, which is good. The dialog is tolerable, and as I said before, the writing is clear and easy to read.

But the thing i've come to really admire about is the sheer improvement over the comic's archives. Take a look at the first episode and the last, and you will notice that Revan has seriously stepped up his game and his drawing skills have improved by the fuckload. That's the most admiring trait of this company is his dedication and improvement.

However, unfortunately, as a whole 2's A Company doesn't really do anything to make itself stand out, it just seems like the same old, same old. However, it's not bland, for 2's A Company throws in some gimmicks that seem alien to it's style, but those don't happen as often as they should, but just enough to keep it from going stale.

Keep trying on this, Priest Revan, you have the right idea, just gotta develop it more.

American007 remains my favorite sprite comic on DD and I only like one, so that's saying a lot! It's the only sprite comic I can have some artistic appreciation for, in that it has depth in terms of arrangement, foreground and background, colors and true attempts at improvement. It's also one of the only sprites that is not terminally small, in terms of the sprites used.

All that said, it does suffer from one aspect of sprites that seems near-inescapable: it's just as hard to figure out what a blown-up sprite (in terms of its size, not explosions) is doing as it is for a too-small sprite because of the pixelation effect.

All in all, though, a 3.5 out of 5 for effort and imagination.

Due East is an emotional and well written story. I read through the current chapter and I could easily see myself going through the archive eventually. The art is nice is clear to me that the creators work very hard to tell their story and I can certainly appreciate that.
I cant really find any faults other than the lettering... Its ledgible but the word balloons and fonts are very boring.

Wakon Yosai is a rare treat for me. It's genre is completely different then anything I'm used too. The humor is well-timed and doesn't feel forced at all, and the jokes are very original and creative, almost subtle at times!
You update CONSTANTLY which is a big strong point as well, sometimes it feels like more could have been done on the page...but then another update flys my way and i forget. :P

The only thing I can think that is holding it back is the character designs. It's appealing if you really look at it yes, but from a first glance some might just pass it off. (mainly younger people who don't care much for beards and 'macho' men) But this is really my only complaint.

Lesbian romance story that's aimed for the female audience I think...

Art is decent the characters are stuff sometimes but other times they're rendered good. The halftones were well done. It captures the look of shojo comics. They backgrounds express the characters emotions. The layouts are clean and organized and nice lettering now.

The writing I don't know, to me the main character feels like she was written as a shy guy. Also

Anyways I guess I'll give it a 3 those who like the genre will probably liked it.

For the other me,
You've got a good understanding of human emotions and features which is apparent from from the facial expression, but it could be improved in many other ways.
The text font you chose is a dull computorized one, download lafayette comic pro or acme font for a more eye-friendly look. :)
The art is kinda messy, could easily be fix'd with a little more time taken on it and some computer magic.
It's improving a lot I can see-

for plastic...

so far i've only read thru 16 pages..

the art work is great, very reminiscent of manga, pry the second one on drunk duck that i've come to like.
for being a comic about lesbians, there's been very little exposure of that. which i think is awesome.
the story line is intriguing, eveil characters, and main characters were established early.
and 8 times of 10 your comedy hits perfectly....i find it quite humorous...

Ninja wedding-

The art is nice in later comics, good expression and such, but theres quite a few ways to improve:
Use a ruler on your panels. The difference will amaze you.
Even in later comics it's a little too sketchy, will scare new readers off, practice having one clean line or erase the strays by hand or computer.

You draw cars and thing like that quite nicely. sorry to say I found the story/characters pretty generic.

Skullbie you love this thread. But I have to say your quite adept at critical analysis and I not just saying that because you gave me a good review... Anyway your an amazing artist and storyteller especially considering your age. The only thing Ive ever found wrong with your art is soma anatomic issues but I know your already working very hard to fix that and it really shows. I love the sense of humor in your comic and the cute lil extra details like in a recent panel one of the characters was angry and she got this madusa thing going on with her hair.

Silly spoof on fantasy adventures for Wakon Yosai

Sometimes funny sometimes contrived. The art is okay stiff and the backgrounds are normally nice.

The action scenes are okay. Some of the characters are not that funny or interesting.

3/5 good enough for a light read nothing deep or meaningful but it's not meant to be. Some of the humor misses it's mark

Come Meet Yourself:

Basically, the comic starts by showing the same day in different dimensions. At the end of the first chapter, one of the characters somehow crosses over and collides with himself.

Really interesting premise for a comic, but man, I had some trouble reading through it. Most of this comic is banter, it's slightly humorous but not funny enough to carry the comic on its own and becomes tedious to read after a while. On top of that there are a lot of strips that are just plain mundane. Take this one for example.

In my opinion, this comic really needs some editing. And well, it needs some drama or conflict or something to make it more interesting. I'm sure that will come later, but it'll be hard to get readers if the beginning of your comic doesnt have something to grab the reader.

I am assuming this comic has a story that the author wants to tell, with a beginning and an end (and not one of those sit-com-ish strips like QC). And I get the feeling that the author has a general idea of what is going to happen, but writes each strip as it comes. This is a bad approach to storytelling. It would work better if you sat down and wrote it all first. Let it sit for a couple weeks and really think about what you need and don't need to tell the story. Good writing is always meticulously planned and self-scrutinized.

The art is.... well, its ok. It good enough for a humor strip, but if you want us to take your characters and their world seriously you're gonna have to put more effort into your art.

Overall: 2/5

Last Place Comics: I like the simplistic art style and how the strips are self-contained stories. The jokes are the kind that take you completely off guard, which I think are the best! The humor can be a bit hit and miss at times though. Over all I'd say 4.8 / 8

I really enjoy this comic Ive read the whole archive. The plot is developing nicely. Also the characters are very interesting and well designed. The art is nice but a little rough... Just keep practicing thats all you need. The lettering is done by hand and occasionally hard to read.

I really really enjoy reading your comic. The first day I started reading, I thought it was both funny and different xD (which it is hehe) You're art is interesting, very cartoon-like which I admire. Keep up the good work xD Make me laugh some more! I need it, really! :)

The Faction is a solid little number. The art reminds me of Poison Elves (not a bad thing) and the coloring is good. Different perspective angles keep things interesting and fresh. The only knock on the art is that many times the faces are kind of emotionless, at least compared to what they're saying or thinking. An 'oh shit' moment has a character with a blank look on their face.

The story is good, keeps a nice strong pace. The dialogue is good. Personalities emerge, there's no stock characters which is crucial for a story like this.

The lettering takes away from the look. Personally, I don't like the font and I don't like the bubbles. The tails have no bend in them. For me noticing lettering hurts a comic, where good lettering isn't noticed.

339 pages and counting! That is a remarkable feat in it of itself. Great job. I would grad this as a 3/5.

Excellent story, good page layouts, a strong artisitc style and colouring I'm jealous of in Rival Angels. The only iffy thing I see is in the last panel of the 17th page: the woman's arm is at an awkward angle and the forearm and hands are a little small. It has some room for improvement like any good comic.

Other than that, it's a very well done work and gets a 4.8 out 5.

Chimera by korosu - Wow, your art has greatly improved! And it was decent in the earlier pages, but now the shading is so lush and the lineart is much cleaner.

Your choice to have traditional manga page-reading is interesting, and might throw some off if they don't se your disclaimer, but luckily I'm used to it (my brother's OEL manga is formatted the same way). The layout seems to work for you.

Honestly, I'm pretty picky when looking at original-English-language manga, because a lot that I see just seems to emulate other styles instead of finding their own. I am so glad that you have your own style, and you use it quite well.

So far its interesting, and I'll be looking forward to more!

Blood Groove by Mister Kent

The art definitively gives a very good impression at the first glance at this comic, Mister Kent is a skilled artist. The story is told in a non-dull way (quite involving, to say the least), and could easily please almost everyone who reads it. The only con I found is that Blood Groove explores a genre that is kinda saturated. This nice story can easily be lost in the middle of thousnds of other stories or it could be ignored because it's almost instantly labeled as "another demon story thing, whatever...".

It's a nice pice of work and it is just getting started, Blood Groove is not to be ignored.

Telenime by Freakenburger

"I'm too drunk to remember entire sentences!" was my favorite line. Everyone you draw is so CUTE, and I really like the concept of a comic following a television channel's lineup (complete with commercials). But you've shaken me up with this hell bit...

You're obviously a talented artist, but the black/white/grey gets a little bleak. I'd suggest trying to do the color thing a bit more (the one color page you put in there didn't look as bad as you think!).

Salt the Holy

The coloring is fine, better than mine. Although I'd prefer you'd use textboxes rather than text with a line connecting to the character. The dialogue is fine as well. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good comic. So I'll give it a 4/5.

I had a pretty good time reading Sinnoh Surfer ^.^ The art has improved a great deal since the beginning (great job), and I like the color pages. Piplup is adorable. I wasn't/am not a very avid follower of Pokemon, so it took a while to understand what was actually going on. My rating is a little bit lower for that reason, but I understand that the vast majority of Sinnoh's readership will be Pokemon-savvy, so that's not likely to be an issue.

Of Snakes and Apples is a cool webcomic. Of my nitpicks, their is no differing line weights which doesn't help in separating the elements. The wonderful color job helps this though. The art is very sharp (save for the inking) and is a very interesting story.

One other nitpick is the frequency of the one point perspective in the panels. Not many high or low shots at all, so some of the panels seem static. Also, the one panel pages, personally are sort of annoying, in that I would like to get more story out of it than just a panel.

That being said, I really dig this comic. Great art and story.

Rival Angels is just awesome. You don't see many comics out there about female wrestlers (if any!). And I just love how they're portrayed first as wrestlers, not the skanky diva's you see on WWE :P
A very good plot, interesting and believable characters (i actually wanted to smack the girl that kept saying "whatever"!), and the art isnt half bad either!

i give it 4.8/5 :D

I read from chapter 2 up, though now I'm probably incline to read the whole thing now.

The art does get better somewhere near the end of chapter 2. It starts to look a little more expressive. Still sometimes the characters are drawn a bit stiff.

The lettering needs lots of work though, it makes it hard to read. Some of the letters are really hard to make out. I would recommend using caps when lettering. And it would probably help if the letters had more form to them. It's the lettering that is the biggest flaw in your story.

The story is about sentient beings fighting demons. A human witch(I guess that's what I would call it, can a woman ever be a wizard? or is that like priest and nun type thing anyways) can cast spells and slay demons. There is a demon girl(I think) who's not trusted by a clan of angels(?) it's actually interesting it's kinda cool.

3/5 it's good...but the lettering is hard to read and kind of ruins the books. Check it out people!

The Other Me:
I loved how this one started - kind of like a less wholesome Goofus and Gallant (from Highlights magazine). The art has definitely improved, and it's always fun to see that sort of progression. The style works pretty well with the comic's personality, but I'd suggest some color and maybe a different font to make it extra snappy. Or, if no color, some more interesting backgrounds? 3.8/5 - keep going with this - it's got much promise.

Attention:
This one's just starting, but it's fun to read! I like today's update with the different types of happy. The artwork is a little on the globby side, and the subject matter was a bit young for me (I've been out of school for a while), but I can still relate! Definite potential here, PLUS daily updates. YAY. 3.8/5 - with ample room to grow.

Salt the Holly

I just read through this whole story the other day, and I have to say that I've really enjoyed it. The story sort of reminds me of the indy point-and-click adventures I used to be addicted to in the way it starts out sort of slice of life feeling and then has some big revelations of family secrets, murder plots, and amnesia -- but all along it remains very light and humorous in both the dialogue and setting. One of my favorite things are the little touches of humor in signs and posters.

The art is nice, not the biggest strength of the comic, but I like to see traditional media, and the colored pencils add to the fun mood. As far as improvements, I would say that the font and speech bubbles could be better integrated. They feel detached from the art right now. I'd suggest looking for a font that has a more hand-drawn feel to it. (Here's one site to check. ) Aside from that, I can see a lot of improvement in the art, so practice will make it improve even more.

Overall, I'd say 3.8/5
Check this comic out. It's a fun one and it keeps getting better.
