Hi everyone. I'm just wondering if this following comic script could get me banned from DD. I'm planning to do a comic strip and the excerpt below the line is gonna be one of the things in the strip.

Just wanna inform people in advance... and I apologize to those who might be offended with this script.

This is based on a true story I heard from a friend.

(*White guy keeps giving dirty looks to the Filipino guy*)

Filipinoguy: Hey why are you looking at me like that? Is there a problem?

Whiteguy: You and your fucking SARS. Don't bring your fucking SARS to our country. Go back to your country... you fucking chink.

Filipinoguy: If you wanna be racist, at least say it properly. I'm not a chink. I'm a flip. You stupid cracker.


Whiteguy: Whatever. Why dont you wok with yan and go back to your fucking country... you pie faced slit eyed chink! Fucking gook! (*indistinct racist mumbling*)


Filipinoguy: Sure. Why dont you go back to your trailerpark and fuck your fat ugly wife! Fucking redneck, honkie, nazi motherfucker!!!


(*fight breaks out*)

As long as you aren't promoting racism and hate, there shouldn't be a problem. And from what I see of the script there, you are more parodying racism than anything else.

Uhm, the fact it's stupid and badly written is worse than any offense it might actually cause.

I find generally when you say "is there a problem?" people generally don't explode at you in a bunch of nonsensicle racism, and generally people on the other end of said abuse don't react with the same sort of shit the other person shouted, unless of course what you have is two extremeley stupid and unusually confrontational people here.

Really, that would never happen.

This script doesn't flow very well, it's like your trying too hard to show racism.

This feels cold and mechanical, not natural.

here's how i would write it.

fg: what?
wg: you heard me. I know all about you people and your SARS

fg: excuse me?
wg: you heard me you dirty chinaman

fg: what are you talking about? I'm not even-
wg: fuck you! you're all the same!

fg: hey, I don't have to take this..
wg: then get the fuck out of MY COUNTRY!

fg: you know I've had enough of your shit (steps closer)
wg: get away from me! (punches the fg in the mouth)

fg: (bleeding in the lips) goddamn crazy bastard!

*fight ensues*

Go to any 3rd world country out there. You'd be surprised on the hostility of the population... burning american flags, and beating up white students (I had a white classmate in the Philippines before and he got 3vs1)... but I bet these are the same hypocrites who would love to line up for a US visa.

racism comes with ignorance. In my script I made the racist guy ignorant, but he doesn't have to be white. the WG part can be played with any race, racism is afterall interchangeable.

Allow me to share my deep dark secret: I was a theatre major.

And there's a song relevant to this discussion, from the musical Avenue Q, entitled "Everyone's a little bit racist"

Subcultured's script actually got a chuckle out of me whereas the original, sort of meh indifference. Crass and/or racist humor isn't inherently funny in any way, really more the opposite, but it can be MADE into something funny, espeically when the butt of the joke is actually the person who is being racist.

The original script was unrealistic because the racist guy spouted off every slurr you could think of, where as in reality, it would be a greater economy of language. And it wasn't funny because there was nothing comedic about it, unless you find two people yelling at each other funny, then it doesn't really matter if their racist, in fact you'd have more comedy if they were just spouting jibberish. Subcultured had the:

Which demonstrated blind irrational hatred via ignorance, which can be funny, whereas the original script was just a collection of names that really don't mean a whole hell of a lot other than "bad-thing-to-call-a-fillipino-person"

It's the difference between that one episode of south park thats really funny, and that one episode that kinda sucks. It's the reason why chapelle show was funny but mencia just comes of as preachy, it's honesty thats funny, not ignorance

Not everyone here falls into the "politically correct" category.

I'm NOT PC... because "political correctness" is a pile of bullshit and hypocricy disguised as something "good". Most people tend to follow PCness because they see the "good" side of it. Like being anti-discrimination and "equality"... which ARE noble causes... but if you reverse discriminate others and create a "protected class", that contradicts the whole idea of equality since it creates a system that favours one race/creed/gender/etc... over the other.

Only time I've encountered racism was when I lived in Hawaii. Some assumed I was a tourist and was like "why don't you go back to your home?"

I disagree, I thought the original was better. The sheer absurdity of it got the message across better than the subtle realism of subcultures. I also found it funnier because of that absurdity

Kyupol's version is like a Southpark script. I liked Sub's better for seriousness. I loved this line though:

most of the time i write in subtle undertones. rather than telling you what the message was, i leave it up to the individual to acertain.

When I write it's rare that I would include race into part of the story. Race to me is not a big deal. I write towards people's humanity. it's not who you or anyone thinks you are that defines you, it's what you do.

I agree with that.
Its a real turn off when people are constantly mentioning their ethnicity or that they are different from a certain other ethnicity in real life for no apparent reason. If that became an important part of a comic Im reading, I'd stop reading it. There are two people in this forum who do that in their posts very often, and I wont read their comics. (and if you're curious, its not anyone who posted in this particular thread)
