Man, If you want to talk about a news story, DON't just post a link (especially one that doesn't work) and don't cut and paste. Cut and paste a little bit of it and post YOUR thoughts about it because that's what's important in starting any topic.
There's nothing on your link, so I'll give you a day or two to post something else in there or else this will be locked :)

Ah, I see. The URL involves settings for my computer. How thoughtful of those people in the Tribune web department.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- What happened to Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, a young Knoxville couple out on an ordinary Saturday night date, was undeniably brutal. The two were carjacked, kidnapped, raped and finally murdered during an ordeal of unimaginable terror in January.
But whether the attack was a racial hate crime worthy of national media attention is another question, one that has now ignited a fierce dispute over the definition of hate crimes and how the mainstream media choose to cover America's most discomfiting interracial attacks.
That's because the murders of Christian and Newsom didn't fit the familiar contours of a traditional Old South attack, in which whites target blacks and reporters quickly assume the motivation must have been racial.
Instead, the races were reversed: Christian and Newsom were white; the three men and one woman charged with their murders are black. And the failure of the story to gain much media attention outside of the Knoxville area has galvanized conservative commentators across the country who insist the case offers clear evidence of liberal bias in the major media.
They have launched a broad Internet campaign, waged via blogs, e-mails and YouTube videos, to counter what they regard as suppression of a story about an anti-white hate crime.
"There is a discomfort level with stories that have black assailants and white victims," said Michelle Malkin, a prominent conservative newspaper columnist and TV commentator who has featured the Knoxville case on her Web site. "If it doesn't fit some sort of predetermined narrative of how we view taboo subjects like race and crime, there's a disinclination to cover it."
Country music star Charlie Daniels, who lives 150 miles from Knoxville, contrasted scant coverage of the Christian-Newsom murders with the national media frenzy that erupted last year when a black woman accused three white members of the Duke University lacrosse team of raping her at a party. The white players were cleared in April after the accuser proved unreliable and no evidence corroborated a crime.
"If this had been white on black crime, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and their ilk would have descended on Knoxville like a swarm of angry bees," Daniels wrote on his Web site. "I guess the lack of TV cameras discouraged them."

I thought that was a decent size. Okay then, I think that that guys right. And that racism isn't an all-white deal. And that hate crime is stupid because any time someone gets killed its pretty hateful no matter what the reason.

lol @ racism.
Everyone is racist!!! One way or another, you ARE racist. Those who say they arent racist are just passive racist. Meaning, they dont actively preach hate or do violence to other races... but wait till the racist jokes start happening.
What is even funnier is that most of ignorant society think that racism = white person.
lol I know this old Filipino lady whose been here in Canada for 30+ years... I just laugh at what she has to say about every other race that isnt Filipino.

... and more than white people, ironically, blacks and jews are the ones being racist.
Notice cracka, honkie, redneck, nazi, and every other anti-white racial slur being inserted in rap songs? Notice how they degrade their own race by sayin "nigga" left and right among their friends? Then getting angry if another race especially a white person says "teh N word"!!!
HAHA! The only other non-black I heard say the "N" word without being branded a hater is Toronto's very own CHUCKIE AKENZ TEH VIETNAMESE RAPPA!!! Cuz he has this jamaican best friend of his. But I doubt it if hes gonna say the "N" word anywhere else.
Cmon. Have you heard any other race spitting out racial slurs against their own race while demanding equality and diversity at the same time? But... THATS TO CHANGE THE MEANING OF THE WORD FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF WHITE OPPRESSION AND SLAVERY!!! Ok ok... Now I can change the word "hate" by saying "I hate you" to everyone I love? Now I can say "hate" instead of saying "hi" whenever I meet new people? lol @ this "logic".
And what about the jews who will DISOWN their family members for marrying... or even having love relations with a gentile. lol @ these jews for contradicting themselves. Promoting diversity and shit... preaching tolerance... bashing the Klan, neo nazis, black supremacists, islamofascists, etc... etc... etc... for being anti-semitic... for being "intolerant"...
But why cant they tolerate "diversity" in their own family? lol!

I remember in the Philippines, one time I was with these two friends of mine in an internet cafe.
One of them hates koreans so bad... because Koreans in the Philippines are known to be isolationist. Even in playing LAN games. In the Philippines, if you start a game in Counter-strike or starcraft or any other game, in a public LAN shop, you MUST allow the others to join the game. Otherwise, you will be labelled as "rude". Koreans are guilty of this because they love to create games with a password, therefore allowing only the other korean friends to play the game.
Such actions made them despised in LAN shops that some LAN shops have increased prices to people who make isolated games. Because if a LAN shop tolerates isolated games, it will hurt their profits. For instance, a shop has 15 computers. If you have 10 koreans in an isolated game, that leaves only 5 useable computers... making it 3 on 2 on a counter-strike game. (instead of 7vs8) 3 on 2 in a CS game SUX... therefore, driving away the potential customers, therefore reducing their profit.
Anyway nuff background info...
This friend of mine wanted to beat up the koreans so bad. He was like... "Putang ina mga koriano na yan... tangina anong ginagawa nila dito... Puta uupakan ko mga babakla baklang koriano na yan! Puta mga bading amputa... taena uupakan ko mga bading na yan!!!" (damn these fuckin koreans... the fuck are they doing here... fuck Im gonna beat up these faggots... fuckin faggots i'd beat the shit outta these fuckin faggots...)
And I was like... errr... there are 8 of them vs 3 of us. And I was like... Go do it yourself. And he chickened out. Obviously. 8 v 1 isnt a good idea. lol lol!

I don't really take offense, kyopul, but I feel the need to clarify: I know that I am not racist. I don't have anything against any race or any individual. I'm interracially married and have biracial kids and write/draw stories for characters of all races.
I don't believe in the "everybody is racist" mentality. I've written against it in the past when I still did superhero comics. Racism is one of the most ancient and persistent evils in the world, in my opinion, and it ruins lives every day. It doesn't matter what the ethnicity is of the person performing the racist act, it's still a racist act and it's still wrong.

I don't think they necessarily care more but there are a lot of places where the "Good Old Boy" network is still in full effect, disgusting as it is. I think that's especially true and evident in television, news media and film, particularly in upper management and production.

I would say that what actually matters in not if the old lady next door is racist - what matters is the amount of trouble the racism causes in our lives. It seems strange to me when I hear "all racism is the same!" because obviously, it isn't.
Myself, Im lily white. But I deal with various kids of discrimination in my life (as many people do). And what matters is not individual moments of discrimination - its institutionalized discrimination, and discrimination by those in power.
So no, I don't care a lot about what the old lady next door thinks about me. I don't care what anyone thinks about me, actually. Or what anyone thinks about anyone. But I do care when I don't get the job, or the health insurance, or the apartment. And I care when any neighbor of mine loses out on the job, the health insurance, or the apartment.
Put it this way - when a police officer walks up to you, does your race affect the way that interaction is likely to turn out? If it does, then discrimination is a real problem in your life, not just a catch-phrase.
So yeah, institutionalized racism and random comments by some guy on your street may not be the same thing at all. Even if it feels good to say that it is.
So let's get rid of all racism - but lets not pretend that all discrimination affects us all just the same.

Stacey,
I agree with you entirely. I was in the process of editing my second post because I think the media and its management unintentionally spreads and reinforces the institutionalized racism.
In my first post, perhaps I should have been more clear. Individual racist acts can vary in how heinous they are but institutionalized racism definitely affects vastly larger numbers of people than individual acts. They have the same result but institutionalized racism takes longer to eradicate.

Thats one of the reasons white youth join the Klan.
I've hanged out at some nazi websites before... the posts by the hardcore hitler group offended me (some posts were anti-asian... but anti-asian posts are a minority compared to anti black and jew posts)... but I had to stomach that shit to pretend to be one of em.
Anyway, 90% of these "nazis" are just there because of affirmative action. While only 10% or less are the hardcore racists.
Affirmative action only served as a propaganda tool or the Neonazis to recruit disaffected white youth.
Another observation: Not all neo-nazi groups are the same. Some of them claim to be "pro-white culture" and consider themselves alike to "black pride", "asian pride", etc... type of groups. They sound more like communists than fascists. They talk about a sort of "revolution" for white people or somethin... that sounds similar to communist propaganda that is spiced up with the word "revolution". There are also members there in search of white cultural identity... which they claim that their white cultural identity is being oppressed by this whole "affirmative action" gig.
These such members use avatars that show white european knights, druids, celtic crosses, and other symbols of ancient european culture. Sometimes the swastika is used and regarded as a sort of "revolutionary symbol".
Hitler is idolized... because according to them, Hitler is the only person to stand up against "white oppression."
Oppression.
What an effective propaganda tool.

Back in asia, my beliefs about the west:
1) Canada is part of the USA
2) It is commonplace to say fuck and other cusswords and people wont care about it. lol I liked to say fuck all the time until I got into some arguements and got people angry. lol Guess the American music I listened to was wrong all along.
3) It is ok to say the word "nigga" since black people keep saying it all the time. I studied about black and white racism in high school... But the TEACHER told me its ok to call a black person a "nigga" since they say it all the time in rap music. lol
4) Everyone is rich. It is routine for EVERYONE to have a 3 bedroom house and a nice car. There is no such thing as "crime" and "unemployment". You get to North America, you will magically get rich just by breathing the air and stepping on the ground... lol!
5) As an asian, I am automatically a SUPERIOR gamer (especially in starcraft and counter-strike)... and also a SUPERIOR street fighter... that can only get ass-kicked by somebody with a considerable size and strength advantage.
Now I just laugh at myself. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I think they just trying to congratulate you... for being a foreigner who can adapt to their superior culture or somethin.
From what I've known... the Japanese had a history of seeing themselves as superior to all other races. That is why they marched into this whole rampage during WW2.
While they are peaceful today, there still is fear... particularly in China and Korea (both north and south)... that Japan is still a threat and will still invade them. Especially with this debate about changing Japan's constitution and changing the name of their "self-defence" forces to make it such a way that their armed forces will be allowed to be deployed overseas. No wonder its leadership is trying to court the USA. Because if the USA supports Japan's constitution change, it will be easier for Tokyo to change its constitution.
If the Japanese constitution will change, it might spark an arms race in the Asia Pacific region.
The two Koreas and China will beef up their armies to counter the threat of Japan.
And dont forget the spratly islands being claimed by China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, and many other South East Asian countries. Those countries are gonna beef up their militaries as well.
There might be grounds for an Asia-Pacific cold war.

Asia is pretty awesome though, I don't blame them for considering themselves better. I like how in every Capcom game there's a super awesome black guy and then he aways dies. Then there's Dead Rising where the Latino villain just happens to be an expert at knife fighting. Oh well, at least they're good stereotypes. Plus, I like the stereotypes about black people eating chicken and watermelon. Who doesn't eat chicken and watermelon? They're the best foods ever.

What I find the most comical about that article is that the racist issue is just speculation. The conservatives in question are "supposing" that it is a hate crime, but there is no proof. They don't have the accused murderers saying anything racist or that the bodies were painted with black pride symbols, nothing like that. It's all just a ruse to get people riled up.
And here, unfortunately, it seems to have worked.

Seconded~ If someone is kind to me I'll be kind to them whatever they look like. And fear my wrath if you do me wrong - I'll hate you in equal measure whatever colour you are if you wank me around.
Instead of debating whether this is a racist crime or not they should be focussing on bringing justice to that poor couple who were violated and murdered. It doesn't matter what colour the attackers or the victims were; a horrible crime has been committed and it should be treated like any other crime... as long as justice has been done I really couldn't care less what media coverage it gets.
The media these days are more concerned with selling their papers using sensational headlines than covering news stories in a balanced manner it seems. Why do you think stories of celebrities get more coverage than all the thousands of murders around the world, the deaths in the Iraq war, poverty, the slave trade, etc? Because it's comfortable, cheerful fluff that keeps people entertained and their minds sheilded from the nasties of the world... and so it sells. :/
