The first Manhunt sucked and with the amount of effort Rockstar's putting into the second one, I don't expect much more out of it.

On a related note, how is it this thread hasn't been locked for going off topic, yet?

You know what's sad? We get on Lord Shplane's case for always knocking the Wii, then when he creates a topic about his favorite console people come in to dump on it.

Smart people should realize there are good reasons to own all three consoles. Yes, ALL THREE. Our taste in games dictates which one we choose. To think any of the three consoles doesn't have something going for it (at this point) is just ignorance.

Basically I tend to not lock threads for going off topic if the conversation proceeds that way more or less naturally. It's just if someone randomly interjects something else or starts specifically talking about individuals instead of the discussion then they get in trouble.

Anyway, I think a part of the whole "dump on the PS3" response to Shplane is that, while a lot of people like the Wii, there aren't really many threads specifically about how awesome it is. Often it will just be a discussion about a game or some such and Shplane will interject with the fact that the controls on the Wii version (or however the Wii ties into it) suck or will suck.

Really, though, when anyone talks anything up too much there's an odd, natural inclination on a lot of peoples' part to tear it down. I guess it's a bit of a pessimistic thing; people don't like the idea of something being so great that it's worth making a T-shirt out of.

I hope you're not serious there. There was a topic for just that when the system came out and there have been more than one topic about Wii features since.

I wasn't referring to what you said, although really the question was directed at lefarce.

In all fairness I think every console has had its debut thread. I think I started the PS3 one back when it launched. That might have been a different forum though. And Wii features have only been brought up about as much as any other console-specific game has, like Halo 3, Final Fantasy, Kingdumb Farts, and others.

I know the Wii's current popularity bugs you, but people talk about what is popular. And nobody has started a thread that's just about how the Wii is awesome. We just get threads about specific Wii games or Nintendo announcements.

Look back a few pages and you will see a thread titled "Wii = Awesomesauce", so I would have to say you are definitely wrong. This thread went until March and was in addition to the thread titled just "wii" or another one just asking people if they liked Nintendo in general. Besides, once the initial buzz around a system dies down, it makes more sense to discuss the actual games.

Which one was that?

Okay Isukun, I've sunk to your level of anal retentiveness and gone back through the old pages. There are actually more threads about the PS3 than the Wii. I counted a total of 3 Wii threads. That's not a lot, given how many threads we have. There are about as many threads about the Dreamcast, and I don't see you crying about that.

I forgot about the stupid "awesomesauce" thread, so I'll recant that. But seriously, just one thread about praising the Wii? That's all I counted. One of the other Wii threads was just about somebody thinking of getting one. That one you say was about Nintendo in general was talking about NES games. Are we giving the NES too much attention for you?

Different forum, now that I look back. But with more threads about the PS3 than the Wii, the main point stands firm. It's not Nintendo's fault many of our PS3 threads have a negative tone.

I actually think Inkmonkey should lock this one. It's not about Folding@Home anymore, just about a few people upset at the fact that Nintendo's doing well for the first time in a long time and it's become a rather stupid conversation at that.

Then you need to recount. I see at least two, not including the one asking if the topic starter should buy one or not.

As for the number of PS3 threads, I only see two specifically about the system, one of which was just a cheap shot post of a youtube video which was 99% false to begin with. neither really discussed the system as much as mistakes Sony has been making as a company. The two about Sony Shooting themselves in the foot were about the PSP advertising campaign (which you should already know since you started that one) and Sony's lawsuit against Lik-sang, although lefarce may have used that as an excuse to bash the system, too.

There are about as many threads about the Dreamcast, and I don't see you crying about that.

That's probably because it doesn't bother me that the topics exist, it bothers me that you think they don't. The 360 probably has more topics than any of the other systems, particularly with multiple topics about Live, but it doesn't bother me since I don't see people bitching about how the system is "neglected" in the forums.

Maybe people don't want to discuss the PS3 in a positive manner because there isn't that much to say about it?

It seems to me you're getting pissy because people have legitimate complaints with the system and aren't going around making threads praising it.

Simple enough Isukun, people will start threads about things they want to talk about. Instead of bitching about the lack of "good" PS3 threads, why don't YOU start one? It just so happens most people right now want to discuss the failings of Sony, or the role-reversal Nintendo has achieved. If you want to discuss the positives of the PS3, start a thread, don't pick e-fights.

So, please, either start a thread discussing the aspects of the PS3 you want to discuss, that way you quit ruining other people's topics, or just stay out of the gaming forum in general since you don't like to make discussions, just derail them.

As for the subject of the ORIGINAL post in this thread. Folding at home is kind of a neat little side application for the PS3 but definitely not a selling-point. If they had some quality games to go with the folding at home, that would be great.

I'd say that the problem is more that no one owns one, and therefore no one knows what to say about it. I intend to at least educate you guys a little about how awesome it is.

hpkomic

The only "complaints" I've seen are:

1: lol no gud gaems (PS3 has as many good games as other systems)

2: lol expansif (PS3 does cost more than other systems, so I'll give you that one)

hpkomic
Simple enough Isukun, people will start threads about things they want to talk about. Instead of bitching about the lack of "good" PS3 threads, why don't YOU start one?

Actually, I agree with you in a way. While I don't see Isukun as "Bitching" anymore than everyone else has been, he should try to make a few good PS3 related threads.

hpkomic

And when people start discussing the so-called "failings" of Sony, do we not have the right to say "lol no", because that is our opinion?

Also, Isukun didn't start anything. He tried to protect the PS3 after other people started shit about it.

hpkomic
So, please, either start a thread discussing the aspects of the PS3 you want to discuss, that way you quit ruining other people's topics, or just stay out of the gaming forum in general since you don't like to make discussions, just derail them.

I really haven't seen Isukun derailing any more than anyone else. I will admit that I do derail threads slightly more often, but that's me, not Isukun.

Also, if you don't want someone to say that they disagree with the topic you've started, don't start it in the first place. Because someone will disagree with you, and they will state that they do.

hpkomic

Hpkomic hates cancer patients.

Seriously though, I never said that it was a major selling point. I merely said that it was a cool thing that I happened to notice on my PS3.

hpkomic
If they had some quality games to go with the folding at home, that would be great.

Do I have to make another list?

Actually, you know what? I won't. If Isukun wants to, he can though. He probably knows of more games than me anyway.

Problem is, you've not really managed to convince me to get one yet.

The only "complaints" I've seen are:

1: lol no gud gaems (PS3 has as many good games as other systems)

2: lol expansif (PS3 does cost more than other systems, so I'll give you that one)

Here is another one. Blu-Ray. As for the games, I see nothing on the PS3 I want.

Actually, I agree with you in a way. While I don't see Isukun as "Bitching" anymore than everyone else has been, he should try to make a few good PS3 related threads.

Yeah, but his whole arguement from where I quoted him was about there not being enough PS3 threads, so i figure I'd call him out on him not making any.

And when people start discussing the so-called "failings" of Sony, do we not have the right to say "lol no", because that is our opinion?

Also, Isukun didn't start anything. He tried to protect the PS3 after other people started shit about it.

You're welcome to disagree, as for their failings, I don't know quite how you can spin the idea of the downgraded PS3 models Sony is pushing, of the failure of the PSP and it's UMD format push, or the lack of software to pull in people who don't own a PS3 or the knockoff "motion" controls they jammed onto their system.

Just keep in mind what you said about "lol no" when you guys start bashing other systems and companies. I've noticed a bit of a double-standard here.

I really haven't seen Isukun derailing any more than anyone else. I will admit that I do derail threads slightly more often, but that's me, not Isukun.

Fair enough, but derailed threads are still annoyances.

Also, if you don't want someone to say that they disagree with the topic you've started, don't start it in the first place. Because someone will disagree with you, and they will state that they do.

That's common sense.

So why is Isukun so annoyed with the fact that people disagree with his stances on the PS3, and complaining there aren't enough threads about it? Wouldn't it be better for him to start a thread saying "this is why the PS3 is awesome?"

Sure, there will be people who disagree, but at least it's a thread he started about why he likes the PS3 so much, and one more positive discussion for Sony.

Hpkomic hates cancer patients.

Seriously though, I never said that it was a major selling point. I merely said that it was a cool thing that I happened to notice on my PS3.

Oh, I understand that it's not a selling point. It is a cool thing, but it's not so much different then what you can do with your PC, or donating to science programs and charities.

If I had a PS3, I'd totally use is, but it's moot anyway because I doubt I'll be getting a PS3 anytime soon.

Do I have to make another list?

Actually, you know what? I won't. If Isukun wants to, he can though. He probably knows of more games than me anyway.

Problem is, I've read the list and nothing on it appeals to me really. Maybe MGS4, but even then, I'm put off by it due to how silly it looks (the guy with the monkey, Raiden, all that crap) not to mention it's just a single game and that wouldn't justify the purchase of a 600 dollar system. I don't even have a 360 yet, and that's because there are only about 5 games on it I want, if the 360 got more games I'm after, I'd definitely pick it up. It's the same situation with the PS3, if the price was dropped, ditch the stupid format wars, fix the controller and release more games that appeal to me, I'd pick one up.

Well, normally I don't like to lock threads for straying off the main topic, but really at this point people are just arguing about why they're arguing, and there's probably a better place for that. I'm going to save myself a potential headache down the road and just lock this thread now
