So yeah, I just found this option on my PS3 called Folding@Home. I looked at it, and found out that it contributes some of my PS3's processing power to a program designed to study protein folding. This helps scientist's discover how diseases work, and therefore find cures for them.

Needless to say, I will be downloading the program later today. (I have a game demo downloading right now, or I would do it immediately.)

So, when you guys get cancer, thank me and my PS3 for finding the cure.

Anyway, it is pretty cool that Sony is helping with something like this, and I hope it leads to research assistance becoming a common thread for any online devices. As far as I'm aware there's nothing specific about the PS3 that makes it extraordinarily more qualified for this sort of thing than your average home PC, so it should be an easy thing for devices to just do in the future.

Meh even if it did save lives I wouldn't buy it I always used to say it was a waste of money since there aren't many good games out or anything. But it is still cool that a videogame console is saving lives.

4: I just got finished downloading and setting up the cancer-curing thingy. Unfortunately, the area my PS3 is in keeps it from ventilating properly, so I can't just leave it on and let it run forever. I will, however, be turning it back on as soon as my PS3 cools down a little.

An Astrophysicist replaced a supercomputer with eight PlayStation 3s, you know, to "...help measure these theoretical gravity waves -- ripples in space-time that travel at the speed of light." Apparently, the Cell processor is fantastic at these type of calculations. It's all this power, and it's still useless information for me.

The PS3 needs games, dammit. The current ones are okay... but there really needs to be something that makes me go "OH SHI-", justify the steep price.

For me, it was White Knight Story and FFXIII. Now, I know that neither of those are out yet, but honestly, none of the games I REALLY want for any of the systems are out yet. I looked at what games are coming out, and said "The PS3 will have most of the games I want." So then I bought it.

And right now, there are some games that I want for it. Some of them look really awesome. The big ones, however, just aren't out for any of the systems yet.

Well, except Halo 3, but Halo's really just every other FPS with more hype.

Eventually, but not this year. Nor next year, possibly in 2009. By then developers will hopefully know their way around the PS3 and Cell architecture.

So yeah, I just found this option on my PS3 called Folding@Home.

I used it the first day it was released -- then a few weeks later I found out it uses a lot of electricity and affects your electric bill tremendously if you continue to use it on a daily basis so I just stopped using it. Yes, curing cancer is great but an increase in your electric bill is not.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high with those games. Soulcaliber Legends isn't a fighting game and there is no official Dragon Quest of Final Fantasy entries heading to the system. The Dragon Quest game is basically a revamped version of one of those plug-and-play TV games from Japan. I wouldn't even call it an RPG, it's more of a long minigame. There are two games bearing the Final Fantasy name, both based on Crystal Chronicles. They seem to be dropping the best part of the original game, though, the multiplayer. Well that and one probably isn't an RPG at all, but more of a town-building sim. If you're looking for any of the play experiences you're used to getting out of those names, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Shplane disappoints me. He forgot Metal Gear Solid 4, which is, in my humble opinion, the only reason someone needs to want a PS3.
