I made just over $3 in the last couple weeks. I used that to buy a banner spot one day (which got three clicks) and now have a button ad on a high traffic site, which got 10 click today. -- Not much, but I didn't have to put in any money out of my pocket, so it's good.

cool. glad you got hits from my site. i put the banner ad in a nice spot right below the navigation buttons but above the comments. the price on the banner has jumped up a lot since last night alone. google ads suck in comparison to PW ads. i even added 4 buttons when i updated the page code last night. i don't wanna overdo the ads but i have 4 pages of paying bids right now. most are outbids. at the rate i'm going with PW i'll make more in 3 months than i did in 9 months with google.

I like the idea and they are much friendlier than google and higher recommended. However I just got it and got my first code/ad together and tried to put the code in blogspot following pw's advice and it still wont post, so I am trying to find out what the dealy-o is. Hopefully I can get some ad space up soon.

I never tried Google ads before, but after all the negatives I've heard, I probably wont use it.

Project wonderful, for both and the people who advertising, is very good (well, I got a little mad after my ad boxes went down for a couple days, but I fixed it and I'm back in the seat of power).

I think the only reason I sell is because my ad boxes are at the top of my page.

Yeah I am still having trouble advertising it on my blogspot account but I am hoping that now that I have some ads put up for bid here pretty cheap on my comics that I may have more luck. Im still learning html and working it together so I get stuck into walls sometimes, thats my only issue with it right now and its not that bad.

I don't understand how PW works--I mean I do, it's basically like an eBay advertising system--but this seems very fishy to me. I'd like to use PW for my freelance art business, Painting Pixie Designs . But what's the point if someone could outbid me on the ad space at any given time? It doesn't seem worth it, in my opinion.

I've done well with Project Wonderful on my main site. I finally figured out a way to get it to work here on DD with iframes... Someone said you have to change the code somehow to make it work directly on your DD comic page..?

Anyway, for now I'm using the same ads from my main site over here to bump their pageviews up a little bit. I'm still smoothing out my web design on DrunkDuck.

lastcall -- either you have to watch your ads, or set them to run for a while. If you're outbid, you can just wait until their high bid expires, or you can up your bid, or you can bid on a different site. It does work out well, especially if you're both a buyer and seller. It takes some time to learn the program, but it's fairly easy, and it's one of the better advertising methods available.

Hey Lastcall,

I definitely think you should give it a try. The main thing to understand is that the system seems to work well with micro payments, even fractions of a cent. Even if you're outbid, you end up just paying for the amount of time that your ad was actually displayed. The great side benefit to this is also that if there are no competing bidders, no matter how high your bid is you get the ad space for free!

I've had Project Wonderful for a while now, but just played around with purchasing some adspace for the first time recently. Setting up a campaign is definitely the way to go in my opinion. I'd spent time going in and placing bids on ads one at a time, with a maximum bid of $0. You can do that and snag some free ad time here and there. If you set up a campaign, you have to have a budget of at least .10 cents a day, but that's not much of an ad budget and well worth it. This gives automated access to a lot of free ad space too.

My first test campaign ran for two weeks with a small button ad. It cost me $1.79 total, (big spender right!) and had a total of 8,041 unique pageviews, which I got 138 unique clicks off of. At times, my ad was running on as many as 80-100 sites at a time, on that .10 a day budget because some of the space was free. I'd set my max bid at only .01 a day per ad. Oftentimes, by the end of the day my budget would be expended and no ads would be running, but come midnight the bids start going out again automatically. I'll be investing in another campaign shortly.

Very satisfied so far, seems like a great system.

I got an account to advertise a couple days ago and it seems to be working pretty well with the 3 ads I have going. I set my overall limit to spend at $20, started bidding Friday afternoon and so far my page views are up from about 250 on a Monday to over 1400 and still rising and I have another day or two before my 20 is gone$. I'm just waiting to find out how many of those people actually will stick around.

I'm kind of curious how other people see their page views reacting after they pull down their ads. I'm hoping a decent number of these people will stick around but I really don't know.

I want to put up a couple ad boxes myself to give other people some place to advertise on my comic, but I'm a little too rusty on html at the moment to do it by hand and I don't have a program like frontpage to mess with it.

I've been getting pretty good page responce. so I was thinking of running ads

Just so I'm sure, drunkduck lets you display ads on their page and you get the income?

I'm using the custom html layout. I imagine that's the only way to work it.

I just got some PW ads on my page. I have six 117x38 button ad slots under my leave a comment box, and one 728x90 leaderboard ad slot at the bottom of my page.

I just started using it today, seeing what ten dollars can get me as a kinda trail run. I like the system, just have to figure out how to work it. I am running a banner ad and if anyone has projectwonderful on dd let me know I'll buy some adspace.

Many use it, and I can highly recommend using it.
I've had it set up at : http://rrvs.blogspot.com/
For over a year now, and while the income isn't large, it certainly has a LOT of potential.
The more comic owners use it, the better it gets, as you can simply advertise on each other's site using the earnings you make from your own adverts.

Alternatively - of even "also", you could try : http://entrecard.com/ , which allows webcomics as well.
You should be able to get a good few extra visitors trough that, and it costs nothing!

I just started my first campaign; it's super low-budget, because I'm livin' the lowlife, and have got about $30 in my checking account. Anyone ever get charged over their "target" spending? If so, how much? I'm a little wary of that.

If you run out of funds they usually immediately stop your ads.

It may show like -2 or -3 cents in your funds.

They"ll just take it out the next time you decide to add funds to your account.

Apparently, you need at least 30 posts/pages before PW will let you post ad space. At least that's what they told me.
In other news, 830 views today since I decided to splurge ten bucks and buy some revenue space on Sinfest and PvP . If you want to boost circulation, I suggest you do the same. It's great!

Huh, that sounds weird... I think I had less than that when my ads went up. And I know a couple other comics with less than 30 with ad space (Anatta is one). Maybe they changed their TOS?

I generally go on Wonder-benders every so often, where I'll advertise a bunch with Project Wonderful, then stop. Then, when I get more money, I'll advertise again. It's great, I had tons of hits last time and it's an excellent system to use with the bidding. I strongly recommend it.

My DD mirror for Rock, Paper, Cynic has ProjectWonderful ads on it, and so does my main site. I was averaging 300 hits a day between the two sites in January. I then spent $145 over 6 months (that's a little more than a dollar a day). That amount doesn't include money that I was earning and putting righ back in.

It may sound like a lot to spend, but now I'm earning $3-$10 per day, averaging 60,000 hits per day (the DD site is still down at 150 hits - I've never really advertised for it; I just like the community here). If you advertise effectively, the money will make itself back. With a store, I can refer somewhere between 500-1,000 new readers through PW, based solely on the profits of 1 T-shirt sale.

The key is to start off with low-traffic adspaces (they regularly yield a higher clicks/cent ratio), and to make effective ads. Find what part of your comic is the most visually or intellectually enticing, and find a way to condense it. PW is the best thing I ever did to my comic. If the ad proves effective, start making oportunistic low bids on larger adspaces. It's a lot of fun, and it does wonders for your comic.
