Superficially, yes...

But that's fvcking nonsense really. The only true difference you're talking about there is the type of publishing deal and the distribution method. The products are still what they claim and the quality isn't reliant on the way they're delivered to the consumer.

Yes you have a lot of bad webcomics because they don't have to go through the vetting process of a publisher and yes you have a lot of bad direct to DVD movies because they don't have to go through the studio process. etc. But that doesn't MEAN they will be bad, just the same as major movies and published graphic novels will never all be good.

You get good stuff and horrible stuff both ways. Arbitrary distinctions such as yours are just a little bit childish ;)
