Wow... thanks to TV Tropes I found myself watching several Youtube videos about these cheap knockoffs of our beloved video gaming consoles. What exactly is the motivation of continually making the same games in different form?!? And all in "Game and Watch" screens?!? Bleaching my gray matter would do me some good. Well... if I had any anyway.

If I ever buy any of these knockoffs it would probably just to see what they're all about. And to see how durable they are against my car tires. Or maybe I could just drop them off the hood or something. In any case, I hope no child becomes a victim of a parent who can't tell the difference between the fakes and the authentic stuff. Imagine a child expecting to get a Nintendo Wii for Christmas, only to end up with the Chintendo Vii... and then does who knows what after finding out his dream has been shattered into itty bitty pieces... O_O

The fact that they're doing this with consoles is quite astonishing as well as being news to me! I will have to check out the games offered on these platforms - curious to see what sort of selection they have...

Maybe Super Broio Bros for the Vii?

However, it's not quite so surprising to see this happen with popular game titles (hell, it happens so often with popular movie titles!). Can't remember the exact titles, but I remember seeing a shooter that included "Modern Warfare" in their title.

And besides titles, certain styles have also been copied to death. A game I played a while back called "DotA" had so many different iterations, and still is being recreated in one form or another.

Same with MMOs, they're typically labeled as "clones" before release, since more than half of them are.

No, they almost always have the same games, like tetris, or a racing game, or just a boring sports game. Also the consoles usually just have a screen IN them, I think.

Ahhh... late 1980's LCD technology... The guts of the game is in the "changable screen", and very often the backlight and controls is in the "console" part of the thing. The Vii (and most other Wii knock offs) sports 16 bit SNES type graphics and a few "original" games (knockoffs of old 16 bit games), but still pretty bad. The one on the VC-1 cart that comes with the Vii had a decent shooter on it. That is... 'til you realize the graphics were ripped off from a shooter called U. N. Squadron. Go figure...
