Compare your plain lineart to the finished product, what do you rely on more to wow the audience? The actual lineart or the finish effects(i.e. color, text, screentones, etc)

Here's mine:

I think my ratio is 40% lineart and 60% color, what's yours?

I'll ready some examples later (when my PC quits with the hiccuping), but I know this much:

- For Millennium, finished color looks a lot better than plain lineart, but only because about 40% of the page consists of painted backgrounds. I like the plain lineart stage often enough, except that it lacks backgrounds. (So, 30% lineart, 70% color. The pages look completely different, and better, in color.)

- For Lovefeast, lineart stage looks best when there's a lot of detail in the page, but even more detailed shades of grey/tone are needed to give it its "pop", as is its style! I like it when I don't need that much grey shades to finish off a page, though. (50/50 lineart/shade)

20/80 i'd say. I leave a lot of the effects for photoshop to make.

I don't have any examples of line art saved to my computer, but I'd say for most of my comic work it's a 50/50 mix of line art to effects. Getting into stuff like my paintings, it's more like 90% lines/ 10% effects.

Joel and Skull- That's extremely impressive work! :)
Nicely done!
-----------------
I would say my pages are 35% line, 65% colour and effects. These days I tend to even get rid of linework as I'm going into the colour stage. The less lines the better. I get much better detail and definition through colour and tone. And with some things drawing them would be a waste of effort, while painting them gives much better results: clouds, explosions, creases in clothes, skin wrinkles, ocean waves, fur, etc

Here are two examples where the colour and effects add much more to the pages:

wow its amazing how some peoples art is so dramatically different without color and effects. depth, line variation and other effects are all added later. neat. I especially love the depth of field that you are getting with your colors, Joel. Theres nothing there besides a few scratched lines, but you make me think its there. well done! Im going to check out your comic.

i dont color Kung fu Komix(actually i dont color anything-Im not a colorist heh) so i have to say its 100% lineart 0% color...although the 2 times my work has been colored its looked fantastic. Ive been fortunate to work with some very excellent colorists.

the original art was so big it had to be scanned in 3 parts

"Kung Fu Komix IS...hardcore martial art action all the way. 8/10" -Harkovast
"Kung Fu Komix is that rare comic that is made with heart and love of the medium, and it delivers" -Zenstrive
"Kung Fu Komix is...so awesome" -threeeyeswurm
"Kung Fu Komix is..told with all the stupid exuberance of the genre it parodies" -The Real Macabre

It's hard to tell in my case as it changes. For example early pages relied heavily on this heavily textured coloring to hide the flaws of the art, but as I got better the less I needed to rely on that and ended up clearing my art, only to go for a more "quickpaint" approach near the end.

Here's a fairly recent page in pure pencils stage, absolutely no edits on this one:

And here's the finished page after it was scanned, edited, colored and lettered. All the black areas (well, most of them) are added after its scanned, same with panel borders.

So I'm guessing 30% lineart, 70% color and finishes?

I really like simple line art lately, so its definitely not "wow." It is really clean though. (:

I'd say I'm 35-65.

I would say though, depending on the type of comic, sometimes having strong line art is better than color, and vice versa. An action fighting comic would look best with lots of speed lines and perspectives and things like that, but slice of life or children's comics might do better with color.
