in how many ways can you say hookedified. I rented this game yesterday and im so frick'n hooked. It is a drug.
This is just my kind of game. It gives tons to do but it does leave you with that feel of having to balance it all. The battling is just awesome, and i love doing it.
So far my only problems are a small problem with the camera and the voice acting is...less than great. But put in a great story line, fun gameplay, and easy controls, im willing to look over those pretty easily.
I think ill wait to beat the storyline before going online, but so far its just awesome. I highly recommend this game.

Do you still have to pay on a per-monthly basis to play online?

$10 a month for a non-mmo game? Fuck that shit. I'll just get Guild Wars instead.

I sure did get a kick out of PSO, even if I did just play at home with my brother. It had flaws and stuff, but I can imagine them fixing those and it being a good game. I may look into getting it for PC. If just the offline mode is good, that'll be enough.

I remember trying to play PSO on the gamecube, but I just really hated the fighting system in the early levels, and I couldn't bring myself to keep playing.

The controls of PSO always suck. But at least when you get into Episode 2 the graphics and level layouts get a lot better. But it's really only fun if you have somebody to play it with.

Actually, it's not. Even the developer says it's not.
I'm going to be skipping this one. I don't play games with a monthly charge, whether they be MMOs or not. Since this has no offline multiplayer, there isn't much point for me. I still find it hard to believe a game made for the PS2 can't support split screen on the Xbox360.

The same way Neverwinter Nights and Diablo aren't MMOs. You have lobbies that hold a larger number of people, but the game itself is limited to six players. Sega lists it as an Action RPG on their site, and during interviews have said outright it isn't an MMO. Ever notice how the people at NC Soft are so careful when talking about Guild Wars? All their press releases are worded to describe the game as a "competitive online role-playing game," not an MMO. PSO and PSU fit into a similar category, except their focus in on cooperative play.

It's a marketing tactic, and a brilliant one at that. Ya see, they COULD put in split-screen. But if they do, why would you go online? If you could have just as much, if not more, fun with your buddies offline, you would NEVER pay that monthly fee.

No... It IS an mmo.
For once, I'll have to disagree with you. It's an online game, yes. But the lobbies don't hold thousands upon thousands of people. And the actual 'dungeon' areas are instanced so there is only a single party playing in them.

I know Guild Wars technically isn't an MMO, but it's free and is supposedly a blast to play.

Well, it didn't work too well with people like me. Rather than getting a monthly fee, they just aren't getting a sale at all. I know several other people who are passing up the game for the same reason.

Yes, it only works on stupid people really.
The ones who aren't stupid and buy it give up quickly. Look at Tater for example. He is already getting ready to trade it in.

I would've picked this one up if it gave you the ability to customize your character like PSO. I'm not sure that it doesn't, but the summary on the package seems to lean toward the fact that the main character is predetermined. If i'm wrong, let me know.

In the offline mode, which is pretty much like the online mode with a story, you must play as a predetermined character.
However, if you take it online you get all the customizations PSO provided and more. More races, more skin tones, more hairstyles, more outfits.... You can change their height, build, facial structure.
Also, you can play a fake online mode offline with your own customized character for free. (free after you buy the game, anyway)

Even though I was heavily addicted to PSO for Dreamcast back in the day, I couldn’t see paying a monthly fee to play it. That’s the main reason I never got into PSO 2.
I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles ".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!
