Peace and love, peace AND love... Ringo Starr

So what do you think of this:

Personally, I think he probably signs all the crap people send and sends it back to them and is finally realising what a horrible waist of time it is and just wants to quit... Fair enough.

But that "peace and Love" crap is just so awful and hilarious and the way he says it... man. What an idiot. :)

Nice going, Ozone. Now I'm going to have nightmares until I can push that yucky old Ringo out of my head with the cheesy adorable Ringo.

Aye, fair deal that he wants to get the message out, but the overuse of 'peace and love' leaves me wondering. I've heard about repeating oneself, but using the same expression... five times, in one simple message? Not to mention that the way he said it made it sound like he was trying to make contact with a different lifeform, or just a group of numbnuts.

No disrespect intended, but... odd way to convey a message!

That's the way Ringo has always acted. He would say "peace and love" five times in a message about his dog's diabetes, if he made a message about his dog having diabetes. It's understandable that he's doing this, and it's also understandable that he doesn't want to upset anyone.
It isn't fair to call him an idiot.

I can't see what you're complaining about: I use more "peace and love"s than that when I buy a pint of milk at the off license every morning.
Er........boo!

It's not the "peace and love"s that bother me...it's the crotchety old man vibe he's giving off.

I reckon that might be because he's a crotchety old man now! Don't be too hard on the guy - it's been a while since Hard Days Night.

We all go the same way. :(

I disagree. I think it's fine that he doesn't want to have stuff sent to him any more, but he's stripped all meaning from those words and gestures. Reminds me of thinks like fake smiles and air kissing; Gestures devoid of meaning and just done for the form of the thing.
Awful.

People say "good morning" and "how are you" when they don't think the morning's good and they don't care about how you're doing. This doesn't make them idiots.

The man's entire life has been about peace and love. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

There's nothing wrong with feeding your pets, eating toast for breakfast and washing regularly either. But just like those things, it's totally irrelevant. ;)

Besides, I happen to think Starr's services to music and culture went a lot further and were more diverse and generous than the efforts of Paul or John. Not George though. Those two were great creators , but people like Ringo and George worked a lot more than them with other creatives... Ringo with other musicians and George with his film production company.

Your reference to toast has stripped toast of all meaning.
You idiot.

What about the Concert for Bangladesh? Animal rights? Give Peace a Chance?
Mentoring Badfinger? The Traveling Wilburys?

Just watch the vid again a few times, it'll cheer you up :)

And all it takes is for him to say something that slightly annoys you and all of a sudden he's an "idiot" who you seem to have very little respect for?

Ummm... No.
Wowsers. You guys seems to take comments as grand pronouncements.

In that case:

I Declare Myself King Of All The Internet!
I Will Decide How Each Person Should Be Defined Using Single Word Descriptions From Now On;

Madonna is a Moron
- because she once said she...
No, that's not going to work, I don't care enough about celebs to know anything about them to make fun of. :(

-------------------------------------
Basically, we call people "idiot", Fool", "moron", "genius", "lovely", "horrible" and so on all the time for various reasons without actually having that affect our view of the person or meaning anything other than than a comment on something they've done.

Why do I have to explain those sorts of things to people? Why??? O_O
It's like I make a comment about something then have to explain the context, the history of the context, my peripheral feelings regarding the subject, expand on possible nuances and inferences, and defend it all to the hilt. This isn't politics guys. lol!

I guess I shouldn't have taken you so seriously. When someone calls a person an idiot, I usually assume they mean it unless it's said in a joking way.

Oh it's ok. :)

Yeah, the thing is that I've always liked Ringoo and always will. I just think the way he said "Peace and love" there was crappy.

You should have said, "you're so silly, Ringo!"
I wouldn't have been offended by that at all.

And Badfinger is amazing.

Well in light of the concilliatory tone Mr Ocean has now struck with regard to one Richard Starkey, I'll follow suit with an out and out apology.

I'd like to make it known to all fans of Badfinger, friends and family of Badfinger and surviving members of Badfinger themselves, that despite my cheap aside, I believe Badfinger to be men of good character, who faced battle with hearts strong and true. I'll not take their name in vain again.

In my book, Badfinger is Goodfinger.

I think that instead of dividing ourselves over a bizarre message about fan-mail, we should be coming together to celebrate peace and love. That's what these beautiful souls were all about and that's what the world needs more of.

Here's what I think of when I think of Ringo and Badfinger:
