What's a decent amount of page views for a web comic? What's the average for a popular strip compared to a relatively new strip?

It's a hard question to answer, or even find the answer too. I'd suggest browsing through webcomics and seeing if you can find their view counter/pw ad.
This is personal opinion but;
decent- 5-30k
popular-80-300k
new-1k
holy shit-500-900k(smbc got the latter once)
Just advertise and your views will go up.

I'm not any of those.
The most pageviews I've gotten in one day is 200.
But 10-100 pageviews is relatively decent for a brand new webcomic. Especially here at the Duck.

I was just wondering. I'm getting about 120 per day that I post, and then anywhere between 40-90 every other day.

Huh. I was just reading a similar thread on another site.
Anyhow. I'm-a post the same answer. ;)
I'd like to be getting 1K/day by the time my 2nd chapter's through. I only broke 1,000 once, and that was the Thursday I was featured. Right now I probably average 400-450. But my comic's only been up for about 4 months, so I'm happy with that. I don't think "The Hub" is the sort of thing that has a mass appeal to the webcomic readin' community, so I ain't got high hopes for the astronomical stats anyway.
I'm kinda conservatively advertising right now (I have almost no cash to throw that way) so we'll see where we're at when the campaign ends.

Id grabs about 2000 a day. It really varies though. I got 13k one day, that was crazy.
A decent comic will get anywhere from 200-1000 views a day. A reasonably popular comic gets upwards of 20,000 a day. On the duck, youre lucky if you top 10,000.

The highest I got was 410. Currently, now that the story is over, I get between 10-100 a day (and 0 on some days), with it jumping towards 200 twice or so. I'm guessing someone clicks my signature link on various forums from time to time :P

My most regularly updating comic gets about 50 per day, which doubles on the weekends. I got 1400 once a few years ago on a pretty average page. I'm not sure how that one happened.

Without any advertising, I used to average around 300 per day with highs and lows up to 600 or down to 150. It all depends on what you want though. For me I was running a comic to have some means of stress relief and I wasn't interested in expanding too much. If you're looking to expand, then you just want consistent growth more than anything else.

@ Iba
I would eventually like to monetize my strip, and it'd be great if it was my job. So yeah - consistency is definitely what I'm looking for.
I guess I'll have to wait a bit for those 500 to 1k view days, though. At least until I'm reviewed.

Bacon Strips has been picking up steam in the past while since I started advertising, namely guest comics (when I feel like it). My highscore as of writing is 220 and my average is showing around 70. I think that's pretty good for someone with a comic with no often recurring characters. :whistling:

I'm not sure how much would be average, i remember when i started, the highest number my comic reached was 1000, then i got advertising for .. about a week, suddenly i was the top comic for like three days if my memory doesn't fails me, then a lot of insults started appearing all over my account, it appears it bugged some people for me to be so high ranked, but there were also many kind people who pointed my comic's mistakes and points to practice, then after i stopped advertising i dropped till place 10 and now i'm confortably sitting at page's 2 fourth row, and getting about 1000-1500 views a day, i realized my comic didn't really deserved so much exposure even for my own eyes, at least not with 20 pages, the art, the plot, even the format were bugging me and i had to be told that for me to realize that, and just in the precise moment i was doing good in the ranking, now i try to get my comic to be better, when i'm once again happy with my work, i might start advertising again, i wan't to see how the community would react to it.
so my advice would be for you to balance many factors so you can be happy with your comic's exposure, not only about pageviews, take in account the acceptance, comments, other feedback, your own thoughts about your work; are you happy with what you've done ??, is there something more would you aim for ??.

Wow. I am no where CLOSE to you guys. I advertise on mutliple websites, got reviewed twice (one from a big reviewer), sold out twice at a con, update on time (Major updates are once a month. And a strip once a week), and I am lucky to get 50 page veiws. And that's on days that I update. The comic is somewhat new. It's been out fot 6 months.
On smackjeeves I do an okay job. I used to get 1,000. Maybe 2,000 if I was lucky. But those were on days where it was doing well. Most of the time it's just 100.
I am assuming my problem is that this stuff discourages me. I feel really bad when numbers don't add up, loose motivation, and stopped trying to advertise. It's exhausting. Everyone likes the comic. People assume I am really popular. But I'm not. No one knows who I am.

Yeah, webcomics are totally wierd. For starters, high page views do not always result in higher ad revenue (if you have ads, that is). And on days when you do tons of promoting you don't always get a lot of hits, whereas on days when you do no prmotoing at all you get tons of hits (this is not always true, but seems to be the case often enough for me). Its like 1,000 hits per days seems to be the magic number that most people aspire to. I guess 1,000 means your comic is on the verge of being successful or at least establishing a stable readership. Right now my comic is averaging about 500 hits per day. Reading this thread makes me feel less bad about not hitting a higher number each day, knowing that there are others struggling out there, too.
