Of course. Because Americans aren't capable of coming up with their own ideas nowadays. =/ ESPECIALLY with horror.
Well if it's a remake than the original is probably better...and why do they always use such lousy actresses for these remakes? I only saw a few seconds of them and they already irritated me. When they are supposed to look freaked they just get these dumb looks on their faces.
Ooo, such a bitter post by me...but seriously, does anyone else notice this??

Reminds me of the Grudge... Mainly because it has American actress and it involves the now deceased japense family who apparently are behind all of these event. Ya know what I mean?

All the better to kill them off, I guess.

The original ain't always better. Dark Water sucks no matter what. So does The Ring/Ringu. The only good to come from the ring is Gantz's Sadako!

Compared to the original this looks terrible... They even changed the ringer. For no reason. Blech.

all they are doing is making the characters white, cuz people freak out if a movie has minorities in it :P
check out all the remakes:
the ring
dark water
the grudge
the films were good, and Americans butcher them to show their superiority.

subcultured! Bad! You listed the crappy movies made crappier. Just because a film was made somewhere else doesn't make it "exotic" or better. Crap is crap. I don't buy into the anti-American thing that all foreign markets and media is better. For one thing Japan has been stealing ideas from here too! Hell, Astro Boy looks like he does because they stole ideas from Mickey Mouse. That, I know for a fact, is why he has only four fingers. Same goes for Voice Actors, japanese don't mean better and unless you speak japanese you can't tell anyway. Rabble rabble! I could rant for days about this but I'll end there. I'll end with recognize crap when it's crap and don't glamorize it just because someone else thought of it first.

Sidwarrious, you aren't really making sense. It's ok to think the original J-horror movies are crap, but why bring up all that other stuff?? Weird man...
I think this remake is very low. Even if it would be a fun movie (it probably would, I like horror movies either bad or good) the concept is so INCREDIBLY easy to come up with. Japanese people are probably laughing out loud when noticing that Hollywood is even copying THIS idea. Must say I haven't seen Chakushin Ari, so maybe the movie does make original twists and turns, but the plot sounds very lame (but if it's Miike it'll probably have some fine atmosphere).

I agree with you on that. Still, Miike's touch makes the film rather unique.
Buuut, if you really wanna get technical, "Chakushin Ari" is a remake of a Korean movie called "The Phone" so this movie is a remake of a remake.

I was jes saying that original/originality doesn't mean better. People always seem to think whoever came up with something first came up with it best. As for good remakes? I thought Longest Yard was funnier as a remake since I didn't think the original was that funny at all. In gaming there are more good remakes of originals, but I won't go into it sicne we're discussing movies. OH! The Deadzone. I WAY preferred the Anthony Micheal Hall version over Christopher Walken's performance. Plus the directing was bad in the original. Pissed me off that the characters kept walking past people and staring at nothing to show they were sad or thinking deeply, like it was a bad soap opera. I can't think of a good multicultural remake though...Does the Magnificent Seven from 7 Samurai count?

These Japanese horror films always deal with a young woman being tormented by ghost and spirits. If this were an anime or manga, she'd be going all Buffy on them.

I really tired of hearing that american companys are remaking japanese movies. They have gotten so lazy they don't even think of their own scripts anymore. And they remakes always end up being bad anyhow.
What scares me? They are trying to remake Oldboy.

jalfordNow that's a shit remake... Of sorts. I'm probably one of the very few people who preferred the campy, cool film to the pseudo cool, teen emo crap-one-liner saturated, bad kung-fu, hipster teen TV version. lol!
she'd be going all Buffy on them.
But that's because I'm a dastardly bastard...
I tried to think up a good movie remake for ages... and couldn't :(

Because American didn't ruin The Eye yet, they need to try to get this into the pipeline before everyone realized that only clever editing can save American horror....
...hint: PG-13 may put butts in seats, but it doesn't necessarily make for good horror.

That was a really convient thing to say, because when I saw the trailer in theaters the first thing I thought was "Hey! There's that blonde precog girl from Buffy!"
I wonder if she dies in all of her roles, like Paris Hilton?

One Missed Call is the best Japanese Horror Movie ever. Right next to Ju-on or, you know, Witchboard.

Agggrrrhhh... I really didnt like the departed. It was so much more shallow than Infernal Affairs. The end was REALLY over the top. And then it won the oscar for best movie? Why? it was a fucking remake!

I didn't really like the original much so I doubt I'll like this one unless they change the ending and make it cooler. I hope they keep the ring tone though. It was pretty catchy.
