Found one on Youtube. I remember watching it in animated form, though what I found on Youtube is slightly MORE disturbing... It's called "Hero High" ....

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I find disturbing as such (He-Man just makes me go "Er... what?" these days), but then, I didn't watch too many cartoons as a kid.

I mean, I watched Professor Balthazar and Doctor Snuggles, which were pretty trippy, but they don't disturb me.

I found He-Man disturbing as a kid anyway. The name for a start, "He-Man", was that a Nitsche ref or just something to describe a "man's man", so to speak. I always thought the latter. Adam being just as massive as He-man and yet being so effeminate... in his pink and purple gear. Then there was He-Man's stridently leather-queen outfit. And strangest of all, all the male characters (apart from almost all of them having Man in their names), they all had the same stupid strange muscle build that people can ONLY get in a gym, for the sole purpose of posing- whether for their friends or for competitions.

The best thing about it was that they'd obviously done some careful observation at some point and got the walking movement down perfectly: "too muscle-bound to walk properly, my arms can't go down by my sides and my thighs are too huge to go together" lol!

There's nothing wrong with the oiled up macho homosexual overtones of course, it was just strange to me at that age, not being that way inclined.

I can't quite remember the name, but it involved two plasticine cats. It was 'Meu and Mao' or something similar. I tried looking for it on Youtube, but my vague recollections weren't enough.

Me too - they had a rerun of it before the morning news a couple of years back, and I watched every single episode! They were awesome when I was seven, and they were awesome when I was seventeen! :)

I love how every problem ever could be solved by pulling a lever on his amazing Escher-esque machine.

Doctor Snuggles was pretty trippy as well, what with the talking river that was afraid of the sea, the ice-cream plains and the toffee-desert and the going to the moon in a spaceship made out of a barrel and everything. *glances at the box-set of Doctor Snuggles on the movie-shelf* Mind you, the talking-river episode was partly written by Douglas Adams, so...

I recently watched a little G.I.Joe, and they had those little PSA things after the show (where knowing is half the battle). In it, this kid was about to do something stupid and one of the G.I.Joe characters just jumped out of the bushes next to the kid's window and told him about how he was being dangerous. What was this soldier doing outside the window, spying on the kid? That's just weird!

Haha that opening has always cracked me up. XD Actually I never really liked this old Conan cartoon, as much as I just always ended up watching it in the morning before school.

Just remembered another show... It's about these little blue beings about "3 apples high", and they wear nothing but white pants (with a hole for their little blue round tail), and white hats of one sort or another. There were a hundred of these guys, and one female one who wore a white dress and the same white hat...

I guess I find it so disturbing now that I can't remember the name... X_X

Does anyone else remember Pirates of Dark Water? It wasn't so much disturbing - though the gruesome dismemberment and death of one character in the first episode kind of threw me at first - but it was kitchy awesomeness and kind of weird, and sadly (due to lack of funding) never finished.

Courage the Cowardly Dog still scares me till this day. O_O *Shivers.*

Any show from the 70s that had fursuiters in it freaks me right the f--k out! Unless it was from Jim Henson's crew.

I think for me, any and all of the cartoons from Warner Brothers/Merry Melodies that depicited racial stereotypes of blacks, Native Americans and even Asians. Especially the whole "black-face" thing and African natives with the "plate mouth".

It seems the producers of those cartoons (or those who bought the rights of those cartoons) agree because when they re-air them, much of those images are edited out.

I remember Pirates of Dark Water! It did seem rather adult at the time, like I might get in trouble for watching it. It'd be interesting to see it now.

It's funny how I didn't think about that as a kid...
And the interesting, awful thing, was that they weren't even proper Africans. Africa is used at the setting for them, but they were some kind of mythical primitive stereotype of all dark skinned peoples: The plate comes from some Zulu peoples I think, but the rest of the look with the grass skirt and bone through the nose and the general build (as well as the insistence of depicting people as cannibals) reminds me much more the of Melanesian Islander peoples, like Fijians or Papua New Guineans. Maybe even a bit of Australian Aboriginal.

It was basically saying: Dark skin = dangerous, primitive, quaint, and backward. Which is quite a bit worse than what it was saying with other cultural stereotype characters like Elmer Fud, Yosemite Sam, and Pepe Le Pew. -Which were all loveable and had redeeming features.

Most Looney Tunes. Those are seriously freaky now, especially the Bugs Bunny ones and any that relate to war. Also all the weird racial things. I never thought about it as a kid.

Oh, and there was one cartoon where hens were laying eggs to some crooners. I find the whole thing very disturbing now.

I have an opposite situation too. When I was a kid, Dumbo gave me nightmares -- to be specific, it was the scene with Dumbo's pink elephants hallucination. I think it was because I didn't understand what was going on. When I was a little older, I watched it again, and it didn't bother me because I made the connection with the alcohol.
