Sad but true: because of medication I'm on, I can't read anymore. Seriously. Not more than a page at a time. This is comin' from someone who used to read like, 10 books a month.

I have no idea how this relates to the topic. Or, for that matter, how this topic can even vaguely inspire any sort of serious response.

I'm reading books by George MacDonald at the moment- fairy stories and various things he wrote in the 1800's.

They're pretty good but half the time his endings suck. He has these complicated, interesting stories that end like "and they all went home and things were ok" :(

I've read a whole lot of other books recently that I wouldn't normally read. Riding the train too and from work every day means you can get through anything. It's more interesting that staring at people and less pressure than drawing or writing.

I like to page through my old occult/phenomena books every so often. Other than that, I enjoy reading zoology books, particularly entomology. I picked up and finished off a nice one on Lepidopterology the other month. What else? I also read two books discussing Sun Tzu and Egyptology. Don't rightly care much for modern fiction styles/story designs. As a child, I was an avid fan of the 'classics' like The Good Earth, Dr Doolittle, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

Currently reading Catch-22. I have to say, it's got some of the most neurotic and strange characters I've ever seen in a book, and there's some good commentary on Bureaucracy in there too.

Sweet. That book is probably one of the biggest influences on my writing. Vonnegut bein' the other. :) Viva absurdity!

Kind of reading Stone of Farewell by Tad Williams (sequel to The Dragonbone Chair)... kind of, cause I got stuck at some point and then a mess of different things got in the way (work on the new comic among them) and I haven't had the time to pick it up again...

The liberal media. There's no doubt in my mind.

Most of what I read is sci-fi or horror, as well as actual science publications.
I've pretty much read every single work by H.P. Lovecraft, and have read most of the stuff by August Derleth and Roberth Bloch, and I'm currently reading "The Taint, and Other Novellas" by Brian Lumley. I've also been paging-through (off-and-on) The Ants by Edward O. Wilson, and eventually I'm going to have to start reading his other book, The Superorganism.

I've read that a couple of times through... Couldn't get into it the third time though :(
I suppose two times through is enough.

The last book isn't worth it. That was just Adams being snarky.

I still have a hard time believing that you can reach a point in life where you're able to spell and NOT have read a book. I don't care how small it was, it counts, even pixie-books. Sorry if I sound a bit angry here, but I'm tired of people who claim they don't read and acts like it's cool. How do they communicate on the internet then?

Ahem. Yes. Books. About the most everlasting medium we've ever created. Ever since we formed a written language there's been documents, so I really doubt they'll dissapear as long as there's humans around, and I'm not just saying that because I like books. Blarblarblar, I ramble about printed words, nobody's interested.

Lately I've been reading from the pile of books I've brought lately. Mostly books about youth culture, comics (both books about them as well as actual comics), artists and such. I've considered reading something by Vonnegut but we only have translated versions. Maybe I'll just dig out one of the classics I read when I was younger. There's plenty of things around I haven't read yet or haven't read in ages.
Because I may as well show a bit of pride. ^___^

I like how no one really got the point of this thread and instead turned it into a "WHAT IM READIN NOW" topic like anyone actually cared.

Even if we took it very broadly the question is still stupid and doesn't make any sense. Books are a medium, so how could they possibly be a trick by other media that cane after books.
You can't even get that to make sense if you try to think like a paranoid conspiracist because there would be no point in creating such a massive coverup of anything. That would be like... I can't even come up with anything that would be that stupid. Building a whole house just to see what would happen if you put a coconut in the microwave maybe? Even conspiracy theorists have more sense than that.

By saying "I read _____" we automatically say that we think it's a stupid idea, since we've used the product in question and found no signs of it being fake* as well as we interact and have fun by revealing what we find interesting. So in a sense we DO answer the "question" but maybe not in the way intended.

There. I tried to relate seriously to the original topic (and failed utterly, but I think my opinion is pretty clear now ;) ). I think we should go back to talking about the books we've read now as that actually makes sense. Skoolmunkee pretty much summed up my thoughts in a neat short version anyway.

*Well, I assume the others feel the same way, maybe not about the details but the general "we can't answer this" feeling seems shared.
Because I may as well show a bit of pride. ^___^

It's hard to get mad at anything you say when you put that damned kitten next to it. Curse you Munkee, I'll find your weakness one day and I will use it to swing down a torrent of neverending punishment upon you.

Mark my words (MARK THEM)!

I hate the library because I am uncultured swine. My information comes from reruns of House MD and whatever I can pick up through video games.

I just finished Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce. I'm starting the Circle of Magic series.

I just got Ender's Game, Hitchhiker's Trilogy and the Golden Compass to try out from the library.
