An 11-year-old boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet 4, from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.


If the claims are accurate, Jamison Stone's trophy boar would be bigger than Hogzilla, the famed wild hog that grew to seemingly mythical proportions after being killed in south Georgia in 2004.

Sounds like a lot of rot to me but if it was true then we need to find those damn hogs so we can make a live action Princess Mononoke!

Pigs get pretty large. I've seen some gigantic domestic pigs! One like that would more properly be called a "wild boar", or a "feral pig" than a hog.

They will kill you and eat you, so killing them is a good move.

Ha, That pig reminds me of the monster in that TERRIBLE Australian horror film "Razorback", which was basically about a giant feral pig just like that one.

i always hate hearing stories of wild animals killed. it's not like farm snimals who are used for food. wild animals have to actually feign for themselves and more intellegent than thier farm counterparts

Looking again at the pics, it actually appears larger than it is because the boy in the first pic isn't as large as a full grown man, and in the second pic the people are made smaller by perspective. ;)
-but the second is a slightly better judge of the true dimensions.

I don't think that pig is quite as large as it looks, I think the people are stanging father away from it than they look. It is still pretty darn big, though. I've heard of these giant hogs before, though. Really? Then you'd know that this bear was an exceptional size for one killed in the area, and in fact is an exceptional size for a bear anywhere. -It's not the largest but it's not that far away from it.

An average male adult grizzly can be from 400-1500 punds. And it looks like a big one, bigger than 1500, but not by that much.

Over the years they adapted to their environment here and did, in fact, interbreed with domesticated pigs. In recent years, feral hogs have found more opportunities to interbreed than in the past due to a rise in free range pig farms.

I've seen several web sites now where people claim to have taken out large scale feral hogs with pistols, so I get the feeling they aren't quite as durable as other large wildlife.

In the first picture the kid is leaning forward rather than kneeling with his back straight and that does in fact make the hog look larger. In the second photo, though, the angle of the shot actually makes the people look larger, not smaller, in comparison. Since the shot is taken from the front, the hog's length is downplayed and the camera is high enough that the people's feet are more than half way up the hog's body, making them look a little taller in comparison. The distance isn't hard to figure if you look at the position of the hog's legs in the second shot. The people are likely about three to five feet from the hog.

We should track them all down, and end world hunger!

I meant from the size of it's head compared to the size of the child, and the child compared to the size of the adults -then thinking about the size the adults would appear in the first picture.

Peter Melvin is exactly right. there's enough food already, it's just that most of it gets stuffed into our fat faces in the west while we leave those elsewhere to rot. :)
Besides, hunting is extremely inefficient at supporting stable populations of any size.

They aren't that innocent. Since they aren't native to the US, they breed faster than rabbits, they have a tendency to destroy both food sources and water supplies, and are able to adapt to most environments, they are considered pests in the 39 states where they are found. They don't really have any natural predators once they grow to adulthood, so hunting is pretty much the only way we keep their numbers in check. Food and sport are generally not the reasons we encourage hunting in this country.
