While not an expert nor a ravid fan(boi), I like to think I have a pretty solid taste in and experience with SNES games. I enjoy the "golden age of RPGs" (I just made that up) on the SNES, with things like Final Fantasy II and III, as well as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana (three player? Awesome.), and Earthbound. I grew up with these games and they are still fun as hell.

Among other things I find myself playing from time to time includes the Super Star Wars series, an impossibly difficult, yet action packed and enjoyable series of platformers. I've gotten a lot better at Killer Instinct since I was a kid, due mainly to the fact that every character's moves can be found online. Super Mario All Stars is at the front of my Super Nintendo collection, and I can't resist an occasional romp through Mario Brothers 2 and 3.

Did you ever play Gemfire? It's abandonware now and can be found at Abandonia, and I really thought that game was a lot of fun back in the day. And that's what I play the most of these days... Abandonware and freeware. God bless internet [archives.cbc.ca].

ROMS, in themselves, are not illegal. You may use/download ROMS legally if you own the actual cartridge. Much like how ripping music onto your computer and burning copies is not illegal, as long as you own the music. Much like selling glass pipes isn't illegal, as long as they're intended for tobacco use only.

Or at least that's been my understanding of ROMS. So I'm sure Drunk Duck (nor myself) endorse in any official capacity the sharing of illegal software. If you're looking for links, I'd recommend using PQs.

Also, Tetris Attack was fantastic on the SNES.

ROms are legal if A. You own the game and B. you delete the rom after 24 hours.

Just to clarify, as long as I catch it, links to ROM sites and the like will be deleted by me. Not that I'm morally opposed to them or anything, but there's a lot of grey area in that regard that the Duck really needs no part of.

I don't. I wish I do and I may get one on my birthday. (Which is 7 months from now.) But needless to say I don't have one. Which makes me sad. :(

I won't post links to rom sites out of respect for Ink, but I will say that EVERYONE should get a shitpile of NES roms and experience the best time gaming has ever seen. Nintendo's classic games are so damn good. I just outright love the style of 8-bit graphics and music. Even the modern games can't compete.

On that point I'm going to have to disagree. I think that some key points of true beauty came from the simplicity of the 8-bit era, but as a whole the greater majority of work released at that time was pure garbage. Games were new to a lot of people then, so compared to modern systems it was faster to program a game, but most people were still figuring things out and you end up with a lot of shoddy programming. My vote goes to the 16-bit era as the true "golden age" of gaming. Even in the last generation of gaming, my true, favorite games released were the ones for the Game Boy Advance (which was basically just a handheld SNES) and the odd side-scroller for the DS. Not to say that there aren't great games in 3 dimensions, but it seems the more complexities a game has the easer it is to all grey out into a sense of blandness.

I understand your point of view on 16-bit games. It's really a matter of preference, but I do agree that there are loads of shitty 8-bit games. Unfortunately, this isn't limited to 8-bit, 16-bit, or 128-bit games. Fact is that most games just outright suck. Even games that get rave reviews often suck (King Kong's game anyone?).
