Not official yet from Blizzard,so I highly doubt it's credible. But who cares! Article here.

article
A Chinese partner involved with Blizzard's new MMO project has let slip the details: it's Starcraft Online.

A report on Tradingmarkets.com has revealed that NetEase - a Chinese online game operator - will be running Starcraft Online for Blizzard.

Blizzard itself has not confirmed the game, but has been advertising for staff to work on a new MMO.

Thoughts? :)

That actually DOES sound pretty awesome.

There would only be three races to choose from though, assuming they DO let you play as Zerg.

Then again, this might just be a hoax.

Well, if Blizzard did say they're working on a new MMORPG, how surprising would an MMO based on Starcraft be? They have all of what, three intellectual properties to draw from and Diablo would be too close in theme to their current MMO. I wouldn't be surprised if this were true.

While that would be cool, they're currently running world of warcraft and working on Starcraft 2. I doubt world of starcraft would come out for at least several years, if at all.

Now, that would be awesome. But a few things that bother me about the idea...

StarCraft has only 3 races. And its not like WarCraft where each "race" is actually just an alliance between various individual races. (i.e. WarCraft 3's Orc race was really collection of Orcs, Taurens, and Trolls) Each StarCraft "race" really is just one race.

That alone isn't bad, but what about Zerg? Terrans and Protoss are pretty simple, but Zerg can be divided into various sub-species. And playing as a bestial creature would be limiting compared to the humanoid Terrans and Protoss. Zerg would have be composed of Infested Terrans only. Unless, of course, they decide to add an infected protoss. Of course, that would mean two separate races for Zerg, while Protoss and Terrans get one race.

Starcraft was a great game. :)

But I really don't like MMO games... like Warcraft or Anarchy Online. Heh, I think it'd work way better as a single player RPG, or even a great big multilayer war game like Battlefield or something, especially with all the great vehicles.

I'm with ozone on that idea as well!

Though I'd be curious as to a Starcraft MMO of course, since I can't wait for the Starcraft sequel.

I guess the Zerg would play radically differently from the Star-Wars-Galaxies-like Terran and Protoss. Zerg would play like those safari animal games where you're the lion. Also maybe Zerg will be the only race which don't have to obey PvP zone restrictions, so they can go to town and play Alien on hapless Terran n00bs.

Blizzard, go back to RTS games.
Breathe, breathe in the air.
Don't be afraid to care.

I'll believe that when it finally drools from the horse's mouth...

If they're making one then that means either...

a) They're under very intense pressure from the game's fans to make one or...
b) The money they've made from the World of Warcraft is getting a bit too low in their indoor swimming pool so they need another source of income to keep it up to level.

Blizzard, go back to RTS games.

They are, hence: Starcraft II

Edit: I also heard there might be some kind of official statement regarding this on May 19th at the Blizzard event in Korea.

Blizzard has job postings on their official company website saying "Top Secret: Next Gen MMO" , so I'm not really sure what it's going to be. But it is definitely an MMO.

Starcraft was awesome and it would be cool to see it as an MMO. But honesty I dont think it would be that great, because as was mentioned earlier there are only 3 races.
Another point is: its in the future... how will they properly integrate the machine gun or space travel?

I just hope that, if it is Starcraft, they take some time to make it feel like its own game, instead of just Sci-Fi World of Warcraft.
