Basically this thread was made just to see what you use, a tablet or mouse. I doubt this will get really deep, so I stuck it in WTH.

You can just say "tablet" or "mouse" or "both" or...."toothbrush"...and talk about your epic, wonderful experiences with these tools. If you use natural media than you can....say nothing or whatever you want. XP If you guys find this topic stupid or spammy than feel free to move it or lock it up or something...just made this out of spur of the moment.

Mouse. My comic is handdrawn, a little mouse drawn sometimes, and colored on the computer, using a mouse. Sometimes I think tablets are a little overrated. If you work long enough with a mouse you should have no problem. It just takes a while to get things done.

Since I got my Intuos3, it's joined my list of things I can't live without. Like food and water and air and bird figurines.

I'd like a tablet, but I don't do enough computer drawing to warrant the cost.

I do hand drawing. I use a mouse to clean up my scans (remove blemishes, make the panel borders more tidy, etc.) -- oh and for my colored pages, but the way I do coloring doesn't need a much precision.

Tablet, definitely. I've tried working with a mouse, and I feel pretty secure in saying that tablets are not overrated - the amount of control you gain from them, and the pressure sensitivity they give, is absolutely 100% worth it, especially for things like digital inking or coloring/painting.

It has totally revolutionized my work. Quality is better, coloring ins infinitely better, and everything is made a LOT quicker.

I was worried about getting simply a tablet because I figured the learning curve would take me too long. I wanted something more natural. It is so awesome working on the screen in real time editing and creating my work.

I know it's a bit pricey but I actually expected it to be more expensive. And I expected tablets to be cheaper when I started looking into them. Anyway, I can never go back to pencil again now :cat:

I use a tablet. I tried with the mouse but seriously it killed my hand. I find it alot easier to paint, touch up and the likes with a tablet. :) But i always draw it on paper and then scan it in dunno why, but it works for me.

I use an Intuos2. Tried an Aiptek 5000 or whatever it was for the first page of my comic. Utterly despised it for drawing, but it was alright for shading and such. The Intuos2 is vastly superior. Tilt sensitivity opens up a whole new range of things you couldn't do with digital painting before. Typically though, I'm slightly faster at drawing with pencil and pen and paper, then I can scan in my inked drawings and correct/color them faster on the computer.

I drew all my comics with a mouse for years. I shifted over to using a tablet a year or two ago because i was having a lot of carpal tunnel problems. it worked great! My carpal tunnel is a lot better - though it never really goes away.

I now find it really hard to use a mouse - I use the stylus for everything. Thank you, Wacom.

I'm really surprised when I find out people draw with the friggin' mouse! For coloring it can be alright, but for drawing... I would throw the damn thing out the window in 5 minutes :)

Hey... just a question, since this thread is talking about tablets... can someone tell me where I can purchase a cheap one that can get the job done, and is a Wacom Graphire 3 tablet good for art?

I still think it's a better deal than spending $500 to $700 on a tablet.
Save that money up a couple more times and you have a Cintiq.

Also it motivates the hell out of me to work everyday on my comic.

"I spent $2,500 on this monitor to work on this comic. I BETTER WORK ON IT!!!"

Tablet user here.

Well, I use 'user' in the loosest sense of the term, as the learning curve is pretty steep, and I'm still trying to emulate traditional media, with not much success. Oh well, that's what practice is for.

For anyone wanting a recommendation on a tablet, if you're an entry-level user, I'd definitely recommend the Graphire line of tablets from Wacom . They don't have as many special features as their bigger brother, Intuos, but they feature enough to definitely make digital art more comfortable.

As long as I don't have to go pixel-by-pixel, I stick with my Intuos 2. It was one of the best investments I've made.

I worked with a mouse for around 12 years until they got tablets at work.

Hands down, tablets rule! I can illustrated just fine with a mouse, don't get me wrong (like I said, I did it long enough), but a tablet is so much more natural. It just feels closer to the real thing.
