I'm really surprised there isn't a thread on this game yet.
Here's an unofficial trailer.
It's an incredibly massive sandbox/building game (you can potentially generate a map 8x the size of the Earth) that randomly generates every-time you start a new game. There is a lot of depth to the game, allowing you to build things like swords or book-cases using the recourses around you.

Oh, and there's zombies.

You can play a free version of the game (without zombies and all the advanced features) or by the game (about $20) at www.minecraft.net [minecraft.net].

It's still beta, which means there are some bugs, but he frequently updates it.

Ah yes Minecraft...
Great game, if rather buggy at the moment. I.E. zombies spawning on top of you while you're asleep...
Of course all those "It's like liquid crack" comments are incredibly....True.

We need a DD server or something :D
THIS NEW SITE SUCKS I'M LEAVING FOREVER I PROMISE, GUYS.
NOT BLUFFING, I'M GONE IF YOU DON'T FIX IT.
Oh god I'm so alone someone pay attention to me

Precisely what I'm hoping to inspire (no idea how to go about making one myself).

Also, the more accurate comparison:
Tycho
I have heard him suggest that the game is crack, but it's more like all of the ingredients and equipment that you need to make crack, which I'd say is worse. It's like: give a man some crack, and he'll... but if you teach him to make crack, and then... There must be a saying that explains all this, surely.

I've been hearing so much about this game, still need to try it.

And any game that would bring the DD community together would be great!

I need to get back into it at some point whenever this project I'm working on is done. I hear there's a number of additions since I last played, but I dont want to risk getting sucked in right now.

As far as trailers go, I'm a little more keen on this one .

I think I've actually gotten along fine just seeing all the screenshots and videos of the cool stuff people are doing with the game. I don't really even get the point of the game itself, but I love seeing what people do with it.

What I've learned from Minecraft...

And the freaky thing is that the ship's almost finished now. I think this is the latest update that he's posted.
Those were my two cents.

I remember seeing that! So does that mean it will include a fully navigable ship, complete with all decks and rooms?! If so, that will be amazing...and I wonder if he'll allow "guests" to take tours of it.

I love how this game can be just as impressive as a lego-building simulator, as we've seen. People have built some amazing things - maybe not to such a grand scale, but still amazing. And even if you're not into that, it offers some interesting survival mode gameplay that has a sense of purpose and personal reward to it.

One thing that always bewilders me is the great lengths people go to with redstone. Maybe because I've taken classes in electronics this doesn't appeal to me as much, but I just don't understand why someone would take the time to build advanced circuitry when it's just as fulfilling and accessible in the real world.

That's like saying you'll never play with Lego blocks because you're happy looking at other people's cool stuff. Or saying you'll never play Left 4 Dead because you've seen other zombie films.

That's basically what this game is. An in depth Lego sim tied to a zombie survival game. And it's a strong example of both, at that.

Looks like it's going to be a 100% accurate, 1:1 scale model of the Enterprise, complete with all decks, rooms and everything inside them. There's a large team of people working on this and you can ask to join but they have to accept you (they do this to limit the chances of some doofus who's only trying to log on to destroy what they've built). People who join can then claim a room in one of the crew decks that they can personalize to suit their own desire.

I don't know how much they've thought it through but I expect that once this thing is 100% complete they'll invite anyone who's interested to tour the ship, after they promised not to damage anything.

Here's an older update clip, where you can hear him explain how you can join and claim a room.

It's exactly like the Lego thing, and nothing like the Left4Dead thing. Yes, I'm perfectly happy to see people's creations via Minecraft. No, I'm not playing something similar to Minecraft as a replacement for the real Minecraft.

I think you misunderstood the Left4Dead thing. See, the game can actually be played as a horror-survival game (with a pretty cool resource manager set-up.) Even if you aren't into the whole building thing, you can still play it for that reason (that's why I play.)

If I'm not mistaken, you only have to ask if you want to build. You may need to sign up for World of Minecraft, but I think anyone can get on and look around.

I wonder if he got that project protected from these who only wants to burn down buildings for kick's sake.
