The Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable have dominated the hand-held gaming industry up until now. Now, Microsoft will have its time to shine. Company executive Gerald Fennard has just announced that Microsoft is currently developing its first hand-held gaming device: the XBox Palm.
"We drafted the first designs in mid 2006," said Fennard in an interview. "We're still working on some of the aesthetics of the device, but we plan to have it on shelves by the 4th quarter of this year (January - March 2010)."
Some of the game features include a 10" screen as well as Wi-Fi capability. However, one feature that stands out from the rest of the current hand-held devices is that, just like its console counterpart, you will be able to download games off the Internet onto a removable hard drive on the Palm.
"These hard drives will have half the capacity of the Premium XBox 360 models (10 Gb), but you should be able to store up to 50 games on a single device."
Other features include a rechargeable battery pack and being able to obtain Gamerpoints. At least seventeen games will be available upon the release of the Xbox Palm including Viva Pinata: Pocket Pals and Call of Duty: Red Dread.

This must be an April Fool's article :]
1. It can't be portable and have a 10" screen
2. Microsoft wouldn't use the name of an already established property like Palm
3. You link to a general site and not any kind of article
Nice try though. :] I'm sure there are people out there who wish for a portable xbox platform.

Well it's probable in that "netbook" ultra-portables come in a 10 inch screen size and you can pack them with the power to handle games if you want.
But as for the rest, yeah, it sounds like a "just probable enough" idea to be a good April fools scam :)

As a fan of videogame news I hate April Fools day. I only like the April Fools gags that blatant enough to be obviously false and are funny.

I loved it when IGN featured a trailer for an upcoming Zelda movie. It was pretty professional, complete with special effects and everything.
Oh cool. It's out today. :)

Those were my two cents.

Anyone remember the twice successful joke done by EGM? :)
I remember the one where they said to get Sonic and Tails in Super Smash Bros Melee, you had to beat, I think it was 20, or 100 people in Cruel Melee.
That was back when I was...8 or something.
And I remember my brother and I actually tried it.

There's that, but then there's the Street Fighter jokes. Jokes so good that more than a few magazines went and printed the article about how to get a chance to challenge Akuma... They said you had to get to Bison with all perfect rounds, then go 10 rounds against Bison himself without getting hit. Then Akuma would burst out of the bell in that stage and throw Bison out. The screenshots looked pretty convincing in that article. Took me a while (and a lot of quarters) before I realized that the max number of rounds in any match were four...

I remember when some game comic posted an April fools where they gave up a new, previously unannounced, cheat code for Worms 2. If you punched in the code an UFO was supposed to pop up and abduct a random worm. The article contained a screen shot of the UFO beaming up a worm and the whole artwork design of the ship fitted into the game perfectly.
Those were my two cents.

Close, it was actually "Sheng Long", Ryu and Ken's master.
Ryu used to sometimes say "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance" when he defeated his opponents. This was really a mistranslation of Dragon Punch, but most people understood "Sheng Long" to be Ryu and Ken's master.
Akuma was actually created by Capcom as a nod to the gag. Thankfully they were a lot more humane when creating the way for us to unlock him. Later on, Capcom fleshed out the stories of their characters, including Ryu and Ken's past, their rival Akuma, and their master (now named "Gouken" ). Gouken had practically been canonized into the comics and animated movies of the series.
Not yet feeling like big enough wankers, EGM revived the prank for Street Fighter 3, saying that Gouken was a fighter you could wind up fighting if you played well enough. Like the previous prank, they even edited screenshots to make it look legitimate.
Now, in Street Fighter 4, as if to once again reward EGM's jackassery, Capcom has included Gouken in the cast of characters.

And from what I've read (I haven't actually seen the original EGM article), Gouken has the exact moves that the article said he would have, more or less.
