Hey, everybody, I'm pretty sure all of you that entered the Comic Book Challenge this year have heard the Top 50 announcement already. If you haven't, check out http://www.comicbookchallenge.com or http://www.attblueroom.com for the great group of people that are advancing to the next round there. There are several faces that will be familiar to many of you. I'm encouraging everyone on that list, even those folks who haven't been to DD before, to come here and get to know you a bit. So I'm starting this thread to give them a place to say hi and introduce themselves. Take it away, folks!

(And I'll say again how great all of the entries were. I'm really honored that so many of you took place and I wish there was a place for everybody.)

-Dan.

Howdy all, I'm David Davis and I've been on Drunk Duck since I was in Highschool, and I am currently a college student. I've done several comics and have recently dove head-first into publishing, with one of my comics, Cosmic Dash available on a monthly basis in Radio Comix's anthology Furrlough.

Some webcomics I've done have been Warped, Cosmic Dash, and more recently Galactic Hub Serreven , I've also done various guest comics and other stuff (usally with my buddy KC Green), just ask me about them sometime. My main site would be hpkomics.com , please take a peek.

And good luck to everyone in the top 50, something tells me this is going to be a tough competition.

Also, Karma says hello!

Hola, hola, hola.

Like Moe, Larry and Curly tip-toeing past the reception line at a swank, high society bash, Tom Carroll (aka: Mr. Mustard Seed) snuck into the Comic Book Challenge Top 50 with his pitch for "I Survived The Bush Administration (And All They Gave Me Was This #$%^&@ T-Shirt!)" ... and believe me, he is more grateful than those Stooges would have been.

The official comic entry is now located at "Twonks and Plonkers," so flip over there for a look/see: http://www.drunkduck.com/Twonks_and_Plonkers/index.php?p=230340

Most of you know my work from the zany Drunk Duck strip "Twonks and Plonkers" and the eternally promising but never fulfilling "Dread Naught." The time between now and the Comic Con will simply fly by because of my day job at Rockstar San Diego, perfecting my Top 50 pitch, the writing I do for http://www.brokenfrontier.com (check out the new Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer review), writing for Game Developer magazine, family activities, and such. But along the way I'll be posting some of the prep sketches for the "I Survived" pitch, onto http://www.drunkduck.com/Twonks_and_Plonkers/ , including new pics of everyone's favorite character Gun Nose. Make sure to drop by and check 'em out.

I look forward to meeting all the other 49 in person at the Con, as well as other Drunk Duckers and comics fans, too.

Oh, and for anyone familiar with my avatar, let me just say: Ooga boogah!!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Greg Robinson one the lucky 50 contestants. A quick word of thanks to Platinum Studios for being the generous host of the contest. The contest looks to be a great time in the making and I’m really looking forward to seeing all the other entries. A few words about me I suppose. Home is Columbia, South Carolina. I have been working in comics independently for 3 years now and loved every minute. If you would like a sneak peek at my work check my DeviantArt site http://codazen.deviantart.com/
I can’t take credit for the art but all the characters are my design and I wrote all the stories. Drop me an email and let me know what you think.
Cheers

Hi everyone,

My name is Khalid Birdsong a.k.a TREEBOBBER here on Drunk Duck. I have been freelance illustrating and self-publishing comic books for several years now. I was shocked and amazed when I got the call from Platinum Studios that my entry THE BLACK SAMURAI made it into the top 50! It's such a fun personal story, without superheroes, so I didn't think it could make it through. Now, I'm busy perfecting my pitch for San Diego!

I look forward to meeting the other contestants and seeing their awesome work! Thanks Platinum Studios and good luck everybody!

Greetings all! My name is Shawn from Round Rock

I to am in the top 50.

Okay had to edit this message and add more. That was so lame. I to am in the top 50!

I don't know who will read this..honk if you hear me!

My name as mentioned above is Shawn. I currently live in Austin/Round Rock TX. I work for Dell computers by day and working on a CG independant film by night.

I was working on my story Kalimar for some time then ducked out of comics following my true love of making movies and animation. Plus the dollar signs and hopefully moving into a new era of indie films and new markets such as serial itunes episodes. :)

I dusted off my Kalimar pages from the depths of my hard drive and thought I'd enter my good old friend Kalimar in the race after hearing about the comic book challenge.

I did not in any way think I'd be making the top 50. I've seen some great works from you guys and almost ashamed to be among you. I don't feel worthy but maybe Platinum thought differant. :)

About Kalimar: Kalimar is the story of a young man with handicaps and disabilities who grows up in a back woods township during a time similiar to the time of Alexander the Great. Kalimar's mother died giving birth to him due to complications related to his deformity, he does not know his father and he is raised by his loving grandmother. He is ostracized, persecuted and treated with a level of suspsicion by the local townies. Kalimar as a child always remained positive and would try to "kill them with kindness" but nothing seemed to work for him to gain acceptance.

Kalimar's life changed when he fell in love with the local town beauty. She in turn reciprocated his love despite his deformations. She felt he was unique and a wonderful person however she to did not have an easy life. She was a victim of violent abuse by her father. Her acceptance of Kalimar has a lot to do with her father be a respected person in the community and Kalimar although kind hearted and gentle is an object of disgust. She can also relate to his violent persecution at the hands of the town's people. Everything comes to a fore when Alaysia is sold arranged to be married with a disgusting governor of the land. Kalimar being a young teenager and very rash sneaks into the castle. Alaysia and he then run away together only to be caught in town by the general's men. In a fit of rage Alaysia's father attacks her publicly and during the encounter knocks her down, she hits a rock and is assumed dead by Kalimar. Kalimar is about to be put to death when the people's on suspspicions scare them to only banish him. They know Kalimar's father is powerful and not human so are afraid of repercussions so they banish him.

Outside of the town toward the shore the governor's men are awaiting Kalimar and put him on a slave ship. Kalimar's adventure begins on that slave ship, it follows him as he is released by Ulibad the sailor. As a young man without a father he is taken under Ulibad's wing as they travel the high seas. Kalimar stops ground in the land of Chin only to find many individuals like him at one of the local schools. He seems to have found his place until ignorance and a power hungry General descides to burn all the schools down and take over the country to unify Chin. Kalimar then travels home by land and encounters monsters, Titans and various cultures and peoples. Finally he makes a homecoming.

I guess to easily sum it up.

It's Wonder Years, meets Forrest Gump, meets Greek, Asian, Middle Eastern mythology and history, throw in a few Aliens and everything made by Ray Harryhausen and throw in a super hero element and you have Kalimar!

Okay I threw up a couple of pages here on Drunkduck!

http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Legend_of_Kalimar/index.php?p=229308

Here is the picture I sent in as submission

Hey everyone. Absolutely thrilled and stunned to have been chosen as one of the top 50! I'm one of the two Canadians to make it, which makes me feel pretty special. I've never even been to Comic Con, let alone done anything like this.

I'm that guy who you see in every contest who just sort of took a flying leap and is shocked to have landed on his feet. I have never done any of this as anything but a hobby, and this is the first time I've even ventured to post on any sort of comic site. It's incredibly intimidating to look around and see how many people here are seasoned veterans and professional artists. I myself just had my first illustration job ever last year, doing a cover painting and interior drawings for a sci-fi/fantasy cookbook. It comes out next month. Whether I make it any further or not, July 2007 is a big month for me.

Best of luck to everyone, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all in San Diego! I'll be the guy who looks like a deer in the headlights. YEEHAH!!

Here's my pitch,STATE 51:

Hey now. I feel like Charlie Bucket, just happy to be here. My name is Sean McArdle and I work as an Art Director at an ad agency by day and work on exorcising my idea space demons by night. I've contributed pencils and colors to a couple of independent books, Phantom Jack published by Image and the defunct Speakeasy, and an anthology soon to be released to be published at Image I think (don't know the current status, I was work for hire).

Can't wait to meet all of you and hopefully strike up a lasting relationship or two.

Hi fellas!

Man, some of the artwork you guys posted is off the charts! Dan wasn't kidding when he said that he had a tough time picking through the submissions. Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Going through the pitches was fun. And kinda frustrating-- I wanna see the rest of the comic like RIGHT NOW!!!

I'm Sheldon Allen's artist, by the way.

PS - Also, this is my first time looking at webcomics. The energy on some of the strips is infectious!

I was going to suggest, you guys have plenty of time to organize some roomie places. I think last year a couple people stayed at Hostels in the area, here's a site for those: http://www.sandiegohostels.org/, [sandiegohostels.org] you can rent entire dorm sections or something for parties of 10 or more. I think...

Good luck everybody!

My co-creator Jason Carter and I are from the hometown of Sipderman himself, Forest Hills, Queens in NY. Hi Everybody,

My name is Jonathan Colton, and I am the creator of the comic "Projekt Werwolf". I'd like to take thank Platinum Studios for holding this contest, and most especially for putting me in the top 50. Opportunities to break into comics are rare, and Platinum sure is making it fun. I'd also like to give a special thanks to my amazingly talented penciler and Bay Area cohort Kevin Shriver. I don't think we would have made it without all of the extra effort that he put into making the pages look fantastic. You can check out some of his work at www.kevinshriver.com and you take a peek at our top 50 Comic Book Challenge winning entry published online at -
