I was looking at the hexagon on saturn thing and then read the article. I saw the 'first mars had a face' thing after reading it, clicked on the link and heh, there it is... a blatently obvious face... kinda creepy:P

I remember reading once that they did a 3-D model of it, and found out that it has another "eye", so it's not just a shadow illusion.

I believe there are artificial structures on Mars, but that face is kind of suspicious. From what I've seen it looked like just a normal geographical structure and the shape seemed coincidental. Then again, if it was carved by intelligent life-forms then it really has no significance today because their probably long-gone.

Scientists already proved that the rock formation wasn't exactly a face. It was coincidently the edge of a rock on Mars casting a shadow that looks almost like a face.

Ya, the face is a angular set of shadows. From other angles there is no face. Besides, faces as we know them are earth things, "aliens" most likely don't even have faces.

Humans have a psychological condition to see patterns/faces/animals/whatever out of random things. It's instinctual, is not something you should take a lot of stock in. Whatever your personality is, that's what you are predisposed to see.
We should make a pareidolia thread. We can add grilled cheese sandwiches and oil stained car parks to it as well. ;)
