Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? Puh-leeze.

I have doubts for this game. HIGHLY. I mean, why should these two characters run and jump and play in the olympics when the REAL epic battle would be a one on one fight to the death? I mean seriously. Why? Just why? It's the olympics. It's not like they are fighting eachother. If SEGA and Nintendo wants a crossover game, make it a little more.... how should I say this? Well, let's just say, Mario races Sonic in Green Hill Zone would be a good start. Who agrees or disagrees? Who thinks that this game will be a dud? Who thinks the game will kick ass?

I think the game will be good for what it is (another in a line of minigame compilations), but I don't think it will have the "awesome!" factor that a crossover of this... I don't want to say "magnitude", but at least one with this kind of expectations... should have. I'll bet money that it will be fun to play, but I don't think it's going to be more than an interesting footnote in the two characters' history a few years down the road.

Personally, if they were going to have a Mario & Sonic game, I'd rather have it be a 2-D platformer, since that was where the true "rivalry" between the two existed. Sadly for the Blue Blur, once things hit 3D Mario had him beat on just about all fronts, hand over fist. Hopefully Sonic will be able to sneak into Smash Bros.; that, at least, is sure to be memorable. But for now, at least, I think it's good that the game is at least a little more complex than "Sonic and Mario fight to the death". I'd love to see them team up more than fight each other, but it'd be a bit hard to balance out a game like that, I'd imagine...

Zippo, I have a feeling that you'll never get the game you asking for. Since you won't, you might as well enjoy will little they probably will give you, and this is it. I'm still praying for Sonic to be in the new Smash Bros., and who knows, maybe that has a chance.

Then again, there was a time when I thought we'd never see Capcom characters face off against SNK characters.

This kind of game is probably better for the wii, anyway. It caters to the kind of audiences the wii seems to be attracting.

Sure, people see it as a good game for the Wii, but I see it as Wii Sports with Mario and Sonic slapped on. I think it really isn't exploiting the characters' true potential.

Game is going to be shit. Sure, it's going to be on the Wii, but like Zippo just said, it is probably going to be Wii Sports with Mario and Sonic thrown together. And that isn't even all that great. :/

Wii sports is another game that's excellent for what it is; a free game that shows off some of the stuff you can do with the Wii. But when you get right down to it, it's not anything particularly impressive. The games are pretty short with no real reward for doing well. Still, people can still come over and play a few rounds of bowling, because as simple as it may be, it's still very well programmed.

I don't think that the fact that Sonic and Mario at the Olympics isn't going to be the game that people want automatically means that the game is going to be bad. Hopefully at least it will open up the door for more substantial crossovers in the future...

A game that shows off Mario and Sonic's powers that they always use, rather than just stuff they probably would have no experience in, would be awesome, even it it were 16-bit. I mean, since when did we ever see Eggman holding a bow and arrow before? What about swimming? If SEGA makes Sonic have the power to swim, that'd be another reason I'd hate the game. The lack of video-game world realism.

Hmm.....if there's gunna be another crossover, (this may sound too extreme but... another opinion, nevertheless), it should be Halo and Gears of War, cuz those games kicked ASS.

The problem I can see with making an actual "crossover" game is that they're going to have to change one of them - in a one-on-one fight between Mario and Sonic with their abilities as they are, Sonic would win, hands-down. He's AT LEAST five times as fast, and basically invincible when he spin-jumps.

Personally, I'd like to see something in the "Sonic and Knuckles" vein. In that the two characters can run through the same levels, but their unique abilities allow them to play through different parts of a given level. Sonic would have speed, so he could run up walls and such, and he has a powerful aerial attack in his spin, etc. Whereas Mario can jump higher, has a few punching tricks, etc.

Wii Sports is a game that with a little fleshing out could outsell anything else on the system (it's fun for what it is, but I can't help but feel it's more a demo for something more complete). Hell, it was the top selling game in Japan (it didn't come with the system, there). The appeal is that it does for the most part what Nintendo hyped the system to be capable of while nothing else really does. On top of that, it's the only game on a system which is pulling in a lot of non-gamers which really appeals to non-gamers. My parents even like Wii Sports, so much so that my father wants to get a Wii. The problem is, they can't stand anything else on it, not even games like Mario Party. That is the kind of audience Nintendo has been shooting for and to some degree roping in (hence the poor software sales despite strong hardware sales). If they want to make the extra revenue from software, they need more games like this.

Exactly what I was thinking.

All I can see it being is another minigame collection... And I really just don't like those. Not even Wii Sports. In fact, all these kinds of games are killing the Wii for me even more than the Wiimote is.

Mario party was alright though, despite the fact that a lot of the games were just annoying. Yep, I liked the old Gamecube ones better.

You know, I never thought about that, but a game where Mario and Sonic team up could be just as fun as one where they're against each other.

I think it's the natural response. I mean, logically, I don't see why they would fight each other, particularly for the length of a whole game (aside from a friendly competition such as, oh say, the olympics). Working together, though, would be easy. Just have the two of them in one place at the same time, something bad happens and they both rush off to take care of it.

We get it, you hate the Wii.

repeated comments don't necessarily make new comments.

Lol, yeah, I know. I was trying to talk about this game, and it just happened to be the kind of shit that makes me hate the Wii. So I went ahead and elaborated a bit.
