They don't, but they do publish american made manga.
My problem with 7 seas is that you have to be 18+ to get published.

Truthfully, most people aren't ready artwise or maturity wise to get published until they're 18 anyway. >o>
Seven Seas is still a small publisher, they're trying to get their street cred. up by publishing quality work. O:

Necropost!!
From what I've heard Antarctic Press used to translate material, but they stopped because it was more economical for them to publish origional work rather than buy the writes to translate and distribute Japanese manga.

That seems perfectly reasonable. I mean there ARE teenagers who can do pro level work, but if they didn't have that restriction then they'd get a whole bunch of crap from kids who think they can draw manga.

That's true, but all the same, I have a vendetta against them. My friend Tyler (I really wish he would post here) draws better than half the published manga ka I've seen. If I had some of his work on hand, I'd show you. Anyway, 7seas won't publish him, and for some reason he won't submit to DH or TP. Too big of companies I guess.

So he should wait until he's 18 and better his skills to make them totally awesome and then submit. It's not like he just has to sit there and wait around. He can continue to tweak his story and art, etc. Plus a lot of manga really isn't drawn that well. That's why stuff like Blade of the Immortal and Berserk are such great finds.

You can enter the 'Rising Stars of Manga' competition if you're under 18. That's a good way to get noticed by Tokyopop. I'm entering the UK RSOM this year. It's a lot of work, of course, since your entry has to be 15-20 pages of fully finished manga, but the prizes are really good (7 winners get cash prize + published in an anthology + get to pitch a comic idea to Tokyopop). Loads of former winners have gone pro soon after winning.

Dark Horse makes American manga? What titles?
A friend and I are shopping around for manga publishers ourselves as we have a couple projects to publish once we finish/get around to it, so we're keeping our eyes open too. We might pitch something to Antartic Press if we can.

There's Adam Warren's Empowered as well as a bunch of other works by Adam Warren (some of the titles on his search page were translated by him )
I think he's their main (and possibly only) current US creator working in that style. I'm pretty sure he did some work for Antarctic Press in the past too ^_^

If you think thats a lot of work, professional Mangaka do that EVERY week, sometimes they have assistants to help them out with backgrounds and filling in blacks etc. Still.

I'm going to enter RSOM UK when I'm older, I don't think they'd take me seriously if a 13-year old entered :(
But yeah, TokyoPop are the biggest with over 100 (and still growing) published comics. Gollancz Manga are not as big, but have published landmark titles. Dragonball and Dragonball Z, Flame of Recca, 2 Yu-Gi-Oh series, Fushigi Yugi...
I might pitch something to TokyoPop if I improve by a LOT, but until then... DrunkDuck is good for me!!

I just learned about this new publisher
http://www.boomboxlive.com/
of course they are new, and are accepting short stories for their anthology
As for Tokyopop, I heard that their contracts are terribly one sided.

That's sort of an overstatement which a lot of people assume just because of Shonen Jump. In actuality most manga creators work on a monthly basis, such as Kentaro Miura, and the Shonen Jump guys each have 3 to 6 assistants to help them so it's not like one guy is doing everything.
Also Adam Warren's stuff is cool but he's definitely not the only American creator working the the "manga" style. There's all of Antarctic Press and guys like Ed McGuiness and Takashi Mizakawa at Marvel (though Ed combines manga faces with more exaggerated superhero bodies.)
