Managing Extra files

What is the point of this exactly? I just tried it out, and as far as I can see, it doesn't do a thing (Template is Mallard Blue in case that has something to do with it)

The extra files serve two main purposes:
First, if you choose to make your own theme, your graphics images are uploaded using the extra files.
Second, if you have any extra static pages, such as cast, gallery or links pages, then you would upload these using the extra files options.
Neither is available if you are using one of the default themes, as you do not get to edit your theme then. It only works if you make a custom theme.
