Man, why do some people HATE manga so much?

People hate amateur manga, because amateur manga is rarely original. Originality is something people complain about a LOT in webcomics, I read a lot of pro manga series, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Trigun etc etc etc mainly because i hate anime.

Sometimes you just have to ignore the people that hate your work and hope you find some loyal fans.

I'm surprised this manga hating talk still doesn't end. It's like a repeated cycle that has been going on since several years ago until today.

I guess people don't get bored when stating comparisons. :?

Its not the american style of artwork, its trying to take away the american style of artwork.

Modern artists who I beleive are truely wonderful include Todd McFarlene, Rob Liefield, and Stan Lee. All of them have significant amounts of grand artwork that includes dispraportionate muscles, hair, and sometimes fangs or claws to try and look like wolverine, even on the god damn batman.

Shouldn't we agree that all people like different medias?

That was said on the 1st page, by me.

This discussion has turned into nothing more than people spouting random crappy comparisons. Any good debate in this thread has been destroyed by people who have no idea how to argue. Therefore this thread is pointless.

This thread is not pointless. As long as we believe in our hearts that this debate still has life and love in it, it will never die...

GODDAMN THAT SOUNDED FRUITY!!!

FUCK IT! Let this debate die before I damage my near nonexistent masculinity again!!!!

wow, the death was quick and silent. O_O

side note: Its because Manga and Anime are more simplistic in form, not to say it can't look good, but thats what most "True Artist" ((har har)) think. Plus alot of that anime is really really lame... but then again Japanese Pop culture is extremely lame. so the out come is alot of lameness.

I don't know about that. to me, Anime is better than most American cartoons in a lot of ways..

mainly because Americans or English people in general tends to aim their cartoons at young kids.. so they think they can get away with doing crappy cartoons, especially if they underestimated the minds of young kids. like thinking that they couldn't ever be as smart as an adult in some ways, and that they couldn't appreciate the art and the effort that went into animation.. that they couldn't care about cartoons.. or even any show directed at kids having good stories and plot.

that all kids want is mindless action and violence, and so on forth.

granted, not all of English-made cartoons are like that but to tell you the truth I've only seen a few cartoons out that actually interested me that was made by Americans or other English people.
the list is as shown:
JLA (and JLU)--Justice League
Teen Titans
W.i.t.c.h
Totally Spies (yeah i know, totally preppy at times but some decent action and not too much mindless stuff)
Monkey Team Hyper-force Go! (or something like that)
Xialon Showdown

Those are the ones that I would watch on a almost regular basis, occasionally missing episodes. you know why? because those English cartoons were made not to only aim at young children, but made so that it could also potentially draw in older audiences so that it could be enjoyed by nearly all ages. which most western cartoons don't do.

I think the only lame factor that could ever come out of Anime is if English people tried to put Japanese culture that they haven't studied about and only know how it's done inside animes, into the anime-inspired stories and comics that they made.
the same for the culture stuff from manga... it's like the author could had put their own creative spin on the culture around them, and it wouldn't really represent their country at all.

Personally:
1)I observe the less intellegent acting less their age. So to get the teenage amreicans as fans, most of them are lured by what was used for babies.
2)It is not always the little kids. As in some past posts, as the average american intellegence decreases*, so does acting your age.

*-A high school right by my house was almost shut down because ALL THE STUDENTS THERE had to go to summer school! Guess what show they were prevented from watching: 'Barney The Dinosaur'. Guess their reaction: tantrums and yelling.
Wasn't it that when you were a baby you threw tantrums? Not almost in college?

and that's also the kind of crap that causes a lot of American companies that produces the cartoons, to think that they can get away with creating crap for kids to high schoolers to watch.
like Winx. *barfs*
some episodes and some ideas they had was actually good, especially with some fight scenes and the fantasy theme of an harry potter-like school but mainly boarding school for girls.. but for the most part it was heaped on by tons of fluff and tons of fillers about Teenager drama over who's crushing who and lots of sparkle shit. I swear, it was like that show was encouraging tons of young girls and teenagers to heap on shit-loads of glitter and wear tons of shiny, revealing clothing... and alot of it was done in a way where it was like they were explaining even the most obvious of things as if you (the viewers in general) was an retard.
that was just what ruined an show that had potential. all because they think that they could get away without having to get into the actual work of the plot, the work of turning it into a great serious cartoon that could draw in a variety of people.

oh shit, I'm rambling, I better stop myself.

Wonderful, JKLine, I think you just summarized all of death_monk's posts. :P

Anyway, I'm going to end this debate now. You know how this topic's name was "Why do some people hate manga SO much?!" Well, that was answered. In fact, Death_Monk answered it himself. "Because people have different mediums they like." Okay, that's not completely accurate, because American comics and manga are in the same medium, comics. But it still sums up what the original poster was asking.

Also, I think we've all had enough of death_monk telling us about the kind of music he likes and how stupid people in his neighborhood are.

Well jeeze, that changes the whole argument now! Manga has ninjas, which means manga has Real Ultimate Power. And yet I'm pretty sure I saw Wolverine fighting some ninjas in that X-Men comic. And I know I saw ninjas in Daredevil. In American comics even the turtles are ninjas! So it would appear that American comics also have Real Ultimate Power.

How can something having Real Ultimate Power also suck?

Simple, they been around so long nobody likes them anymore, todays ninjas are just low life 30 year olds wearing spandex living with their mother, working for burger king, and proclaiming they can fight.

Problem with ninjas is they are overused in manga, everywhere you look there is some sort of ninja, be it a space ninja or a feudal ninja, there's always ninjas, too much of anything eventually cheapens it. Ninjas should only be used rarley and as an "exotic" element, same as pirates.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

JLA/JLU isn't anime infulced at all... it's based off styles on actual American comic styles to an extent. and the reason why I watch it is because how the creators oboviously work towards good storylines that make sense, they work on the quality of an cartoon. plus they make the story so that it can not only be watched by younger viewers, but so that people of all ages can enjoy it. so it's rarely very random and super-childish like most American cartoons are.. but instead has this seriousness to it that I like.

Teen Titans definely is anime infucled to a point, but that's not why I watch it at all. I watch it because while it's childish and stupid at times, they put an effort in their stories and character delvopment like with JLA.

Xialon Showdown.. I don't see any anime themes in there at all.. if anything else I would think they were based off chinese drawings and cartoons... as seeing the feel of this cartoon is Chiense, with an american slant.

W.i.t.c.h-- might be taking some cues from Magical Girl animes, but for the most part I find it to be oringal in it's own ways, and plus they don't do any of the anime expressions or anything... to me, it feels like an American Cartoon, and the only thing even slightly animeish about it is the slightly big eyes.

I think there are two types of ninja
Real ninjas

Manga ninjas that run around kill stuff are usually hot naked japanese women with cool swords and can jusmp 60ft.

and im going to add the robot ninja... like shinobi from samuri jack.

mmmmm ninjas... is there nothing they can't do???

I dislike manga for a fairly stupid reason; it has turned all of my friends who read it into jerks. For example, I'm a Marvel fan. A few years ago, they couldn't care less. BAM! Every since they started reading manga, they've mocked everything about my comics from the art to the dialoge. It's not just friends of mine either. Manga fans I barely known make fun of "American comics". Not only that, but they consider you a putz if you misprononce a name or express disinterest in a seris.

Frankly, I don't have any feelings about manga one way or the other. It's the fans that make me nuts. I'm sure there are nice manga fans, but I haven't really met many.

Fans are fans, reguardless of what they're into. I can say the same thing about most of the people I know who are fans of Western comics.

Point. I have met a few really annoying superhero fans. As a whole, I've found superhero fans to be quieter until engaged in conversation about superheroes. There are plenty of exceptions to this rule, though.

Yes indeed. Anecdotally speaking, I started off on super heroes and within a year or two began trying out manga and small press comics. Over the additional years after that I was just enjoying comics of all stripes and enthusiastically buying manga and graphic novels. But when I began having more direct contact with the super hero crowd I found many fans and even some pros who were ignorant, condescending, and even hostile towards anything that didn't look like traditional super hero comics. I was disappointed and then steadily I became pissed off at their vocal close-mindedness and I started bashing super hero comics and fans. But now I see the same thing happening with manga fans. It's forced me to just shrug and say "screw 'em all" and just enjoy my damn comics, which include the super books, the manga, the small press and graphic novels and anything else that catches my interest.

it's been like that for me too, for a while.
although I don't bash Americans comics like others would, I just find that I have more of a preference towards manga... as seeing there's some very few american comics I like. but there are still some I'm a fan of too.

oh, and I don't like the tentacle rape, nethier Kennedy0.. but I think you're thinking of hentai manga, not NORMAL manga.

that's like saying I don't like American comics because the porn comics out there has a tendecy to draw body parts in exenageated sizes such as an penis the size of a building on a normal-sized human.

This topic hasn't been commented in a long time... soooo... I'll just bring it back.

Some of you guys are talking about the people who like manga instead of manga itself. Just to let you guys know, I hate a lot of people who like manga. It's because they're trying to speak japanese even if they're white, and show off they have more manga. THAT'S annoying.

When I get manga, I mostly look at artwork, and people who recommend a certain series.

GOD... I hate when people say "ZOMG BAKA" and they're actually SERIOUS...

And the whole reading backwards thing.. well.. it may piss some people off, but it's how the japanese read it, so... you can't ever change that.

I secretly wanna become a manga artist as a side job, and also a musician...

Wow... I'm tired. I'm not even staying on topic.

Well... basically what I"m saying is... Manga = good. Annoying n00bs that read manga = bad.

Yeah...

This year, school's full of BS!!!
