Mad crafting skills.

We've got plenty of threads for showing off your art... but what about crafts? Anyone here into sewing, woodworking, metalurgy, or any of the thousands of other skill sets often refered to as crafting?

I just finished a scarf today. It took me a month and a half to knit, and it's been sitting upstairs waiting to be blocked for another couple of months, but it's finally done! It's my favorite piece of knitting yet, and I'm a little sad because it's going to be an X-mas gift for my BF's mother. But I know she'll give it a good home.

It's about five feet long, give or take.

And a close up on the lace pattern. This was my first lace pattern, but I'm glad I chose it, because now I scoff at other lace patterns. "You think that's a challenge? Wuss."

That's beatiful Aeon! A wonderful skill to have and you've obviously got quite a mastery. It's a great strong bright colour too. I'd like to see it being worn. Lovely piece, great looking lacey diamond pattern! :)
You could try your hand at making some stylish clothing pieces. That pattern would look great on a top of some kind. ^_^

As for non-2D artwork, I make a few things.
Here's a chanfron I made for a client a couple of years ago (armour for a horse head):

Wow, ozone! I had no idea!

I used to live in Memphis, Tennessee, home of the Ornamental Metal Museum, and every year they have an event called "repair days," where a large group of various metalsmiths will take any piece that's brought to them, and repair it. They'll cast matching drawer-pulls if you're missing one from a set, or attach a new leg to your collander, or repair the clasp on your anitique necklace... anyway. It's a really fabulous skill to have, and I've always wanted to learn more about it.

Well, I don't know about all metalwork, but making these chanfrons is bloody hard. :)
-Constant mental calculations as to how much force is required and where the force is required to mould the metal into the desired shape. There's a lot of sweat and musclework that goes into bending and bashing away with hammer's and other tools to turn a flat piece of cold steel into a complicated shape, but that's not the hard part. The hard part is always analysing.
But that's quite exhilerating too somehow.
It's more fun to bash away and make something than to draw in a lot of ways.

I'm quite free with my patern though! If you ever want to make a chanfron, I'll send you my working plans! :)

-I don't have much steelwork skills though, just basic self taught stuff. I'm sure those guys at the Ornamental Metal Museum could produce something 50 times more spectacular than what I've got there. ^_^
Personally, I'd love to learn to knit!

Well I can't knit :(
I can't weld either.

Personally I wish I had more than basic sewing skill, then I could make some cool stuff.
Iagojester of Fated Feather is a pretty hot crafter. She can sew and sculpt etc. As well as make jewelry!'I think we have a couple of Jewelry makers here at DD actually.

Wow Aeon! That's a beautiful scarf! :3 It's got a wonderful pattern to it. And Ozone, that is some crazy armor @__@ the only armor I make is the faux craft-foam kind XD;;

I love jewelry, sewing, cosplaying, knitting, pretty much everything...I made some neat hair falls by crocheting, btu I have yet to take pictures of them D: I need to finish sewing some sequins into them, tho.

This is the last really impressive jewelry piece I made o_- I make a lot of smaller pieces just for myself, but this is a gigantic choker that I made just to see if I could make it. it's over a foot long, and three inches wide. XD and it has matching earrings.

I also cosplay and make prop weapons and clothes.. XD

This is the sword for my setsuka costume. Satsuka from Soul Calibur III, that is. The rest of my photos for that is here: http://images.cosplay.com/gallery.php?member=42742&cat=44089 It's not finished yet, since I'm embroidering a lot of the details in rather than painting them. but hopefully it'll be done by september next year, cause I want to wear it to a convention X3

And I make plushies too! :3 I've got a Metroid (alien) plushie in the works, but here's my last big plushie: he's got two tone shorts (green and white), flip flops, an anklet, two bracelets, and a surfboard. This is Blond from the comic "Blue and Blond" it was a commission from the artist of the comic.

I've got a few sculture pieces too..you can see them here and here .

Ahh..that's about it for now XD

Haha, I made a scrapbook once as a gift to my mom. I don't think I did a very good job on it, compared to the pictures of scrapbooks you see and things, but I worked really hard on it so I knew my mom would like it. :) Moms are good that way.

I tried sculpting but I'm not very good at it. :( I'm very impatient in some ways, so I think most crafts are lost on me.
