Macintosh Game Console

Mac has been hiring game developers lately, so do you think they will push for the release of a game console. Mac being the revolutionary electronic company it is today, how well do you think it would fair in the video game market against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's Playstation 3? Would this even be a possible feat for Macintosh? Will they completely revolutionize the gaming industry or just stick to gaming on the iPhone? Post your thoughts below.

I think Mac is hiring game developers for the apps and such on iPad and iPhone. I don't see Mac going the way of consoles, especially since they've only gotten a handful of companies that make games for the Mac itself. If anything, they need to up the ante on games for the Mac before even thinking about developing a console.
In the meantime there are Windows parallel programs that let you use Windows on a Mac, which is what my husband does, so he can play games on Steam. ...Want to know a funny thing? Windows runs BETTER on a Mac. How ironic is that? lol!

I can guarantee you it doesn't run better on a mac than it does on my PC, not without spending significantly more than I did. Besides which, even Adobe's software is optimized for Windows and the PC these days. CS4 runs better in Vista than it does on the Mac.
Apple's not going to make a gaming console in the near future and if they did decide to do so, I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn out like their last attempt (anyone remember the Pippin? It managed to outfail the 3DO, CDi, and Jaguar). Apple isn't as revolutionary as the Mac heads think, they're just better at selling their products.
Most of the tech people and developers they brought in over the last year were working on the iPad prototype. Since some were involved with Xbox and Gamecube development, it led to rumors of an upcoming console system.

lastcallI'd say that's quite plausible, depending on the computer you're comparing it with. Mac PCs are all nice and standardised, not as diverse and uniquely idiosyncratic as non-Mac PCs so even using virtualisation I imagine they'd be a fairly ideal environment for any OS. :)

The game developers probably came across to work on interfaces and user experiences. Get things running nice, smooth, intuitive, and as fun as they are to use in games (decent games that is). At least that's what I'd hope.

If Apple is planning on making a game console, hopefully it won't be as big of a bust as their previous attempt: the Pippin.
