Okay, this is the thing...

I've been playing Videogames since I have memory, and I've gone through most of the "eras" of gaming. But from the old and ancient Eras one and only ONE game got stuck in my head.

The platform in question is the ancient and mythical SPECTRUM (it used audio tapes and the games took 5 minutes to load).

The GAME was like this: you are a kid in a mansion. You start the game in front of a large vault with 12 keyholes, and there's also a dying man on the floor. The "story" (as it was translated, since Spanish is my native language) was that the man dying asks you to retrieve his medicies from inside the vault, but in order to do that you have to look for the missing keys along the mansion.

So, you move along the mansion in a platform-style game, and there are enemies: angry cooks, butlers, mad dogs, and so on.

To make things worse, there are the infamous doorbells. They're everywhere, and they all have a subtle "PUSH" sign on top of them (by the way, "subtle" is only an expression. The words are big enough). Pushing the doorbells can either HELP you or DOOM you, since sometimes they trigger good stuff, like opening doors and actiuvating platforms, while other times they would just annoy you, like one time when I was in a moving platform and pushed one doorbell... and the platform vanished.

As you can see, even after probably 20 years of NOT playing it, I still REMEMBER the game (I also remember the main theme. Is that sad? ). What I do not remember is the TITLE.

So... Do any of you know the TITLE of this game??

I really want to play it again...

I know it's not Maniac Mansion, but I couldn't tell what it is. I never owned a Spectrum.

No, no, definitely NOT Maniac Mansion. MM is a point-n-click graphica adventure, while this game I am looking for was definitely a platformer.

Is the ZX Spectrum what you're talking about? If so, it has over 15,000 games for it.

Maybe this list of games [en.wikipedia.org] will help? :)

I feel your pain.
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

That sounds something like Hugo's House of Horrors back on the old DOS computers....

Sounds like one of the Miner Willy games. In Jet Set Willy (sequel to Manic Miner) Willy buys a mansion and looks for the previous owner. I never beat the game, but it sounds close to the one you're talking about. There were dozens of unofficial releases to that game so you probably played one... or maybe I just have the wrong game.

No, no, I played both games, "Manic Miner" and "Jet-Set" (which is the Willy game), both are great classics, but they are simply not the game I mean.

To begin with, the main character is certainly bigger than Willy, and secondly, you go around collection only KEYS. I *believe* they were 12 keys that you had to find in the entire house/mansion. Either 12 or 20, there was a "2" somewhere around.

Also, a specific characteristic of this game were the DOORBELLS you had to push. If you ever played it you will NEVER forget the infamous doorbells, believe me.

I recall a bit of the LOADING SCREEN. It shown the hero of the game looking over his shoulder as his finger poked a doorbell. It had the "PUSH" sign above the doorbell.

Drat, I recall the game, the music, and even teh loading screen... All I *can't* remember id the $%&/# title of the game... :-P

Well, after some very extensive research, I have discovered that I have no idea what you're talking about.
