Little problem with my 360.

Alrighty, So, my old one broke, so I bought a new one. Comes with 2 controllers, exclusive themes and gamer pics, 60 gig hard drive, Gears of war, Halo 3, Hexic HD full game and pacman CE full game. All for 199.99 with tax. I thought I had hit gold. So, hey I'm gonna retrieve my profile, transfer a couple thing from my old 20 gig harddrive, delete the rest and redownload a bunch of crap off the market. So, I download everything I had on my old Hard Drive (which, by the way, left me with 40 gigs of space :D).

And you won't believe it but guess what. None of the downloads work. I have to be signed in to Xbox live to use them. I can't use them on my offline profile without my other one signed in.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I don't think there's a way around it.

why don't you use your live account as both your live and offline? a lot of people do that.

it's kinda annoying how you need to be logged in live in order to use some dlc.

If my profile is stolen, it'll be the online one that I don't really care about. My other profile is what I invest all my time in. I realise that way I can't get online achievements, but what would it show if I had any? That I killed someone while doing a handstand?

Anyway, It is annoying. When you have so much space to waste, you want to waste most of the space on something >_>

Try calling Microsoft's customer service. I remember hearing something about the solution to this problem, but I can't remember what it was. It's a pretty common problem because of all the 360's that have been pooping out.

Consider yourself lucky. Microsoft doesn't seem to recognize my silver account anywhere but on my 360. I can't even retrieve it on other systems AT ALL. And people wonder why I refuse to pay for their online service. Microsoft has one of the most convoluted back ends for their online service. Sure, you don't have to mes around with friend codes, but they hit you up with even more annoying shit like this. All know is that I get better connection speeds when playing online with my PS3 than I ever did with the trial periods I've used on Live and it has never been a REQUIREMENT for me to be online to access DLC, downloaded games, or their save information.

I also find it odd that a system that supposedly functions as a media center extender is actually HARDER to link to a media center PC than the PS3, and then the software on both the PC and the 360 has so much overhead, it can't even handle HD video over a wireless router. For something that is supposed to be THE system for online and network functionality, it really doesn't fail to disappoint me every time I try to play around with any online or network features.

To be fair Xbox still has a much larger install base to deal with than Sony. I don't even have a 360, but I'm reluctant to herald my PSN connection as superior until it has a comparable base.

I'm kinda astounded its not that way with XBL. I don't have regular access to wi-fi at home so if I HAD to be online to play Wipeout or Megaman or something I'd be pretty pissed

Larger install base or not, Live is primarily peer-to-peer. There isn't much they can do to fix their bandwidth issues because of that decision. Even if Microsoft had the same install base as Sony, they would still have the laggier online gaming. Sony actually has more overhead to deal with hosting many of their games on private servers. All Microsoft has to handle is the game matching service, another reason I refuse to pay Microsoft for Live.

I'm kinda astounded its not that way with XBL.

I'm assuming it's some half-assed anti-piracy measure so people don't just transfer DLC or games from one system to another, it has to be tied to an account and confirmed online.

This may be because I have a dif. system type(Halo3 edition), but I don't have to be online to play my XBL games. Don't even have to have the LAN cable plugged in. It just works. On my brother's system(an elite), that is the case though, which is kind of shitty.

I don't need to be online as long as my hard drive is hooked up to my system, but when I went back North to visit the family recently, I just took my hard drive hoping to play some Castle Crashers on one of my friend's system. Since we have a wireless router and he didn't have a wireless adapter, even with my account info on the hard drive, it wouldn't let us play anything beyond the demo unless the system had internet access to confirm it. We even tried hooking it up to the router directly, getting the confirmation key and then moving it back to the TV downstairs with no success. As far as I can tell, it has to be the same system you started the account on or else it will need online access to check the confirmation keys EVERY TIME you turn on the system or start a game.

Hell, it wouldn't even initialize the theme I downloaded unless it could verify with the Live servers that I had the right to it and that was a FREE theme.

Figured out the problem. I deleted everything off the hard drive. Made a new profile, bought a month of XBox Live, used and guess what.

Downloaded content now works. Problem is, the money I paid to get microsoft points before I deleted everything is now wasted paper/metal. Geez... I paid enough money for XBox Live...

I officially think that microsoft is a bunch of fascists.

Points are one of the worst things to happen to online content. What's wrong with a system like Sony's where you pay for what you want instead of paying for an arbitrary number of points that 90% of the time exceed what you need to purchase an online game or downloadable content. Since when did Disney Dollars become the standard?

My loyalties lay with Nintendo. I'm in enemy territory.

I used to think Microsoft had the worst rip-off of an online service until Nintendo one upped them with the Wii. Surprisingly, even the execs at the Big N are starting to admit they didn't think things through enough with some aspects of the system, particularly those that relate to online gaming and downloadable content and games.
