Making a list of sprite comic won't piss us off, but it will kill you.

I've been curious about just how many sprite comics we have. I'd love to know how many are still going, and how many were just "I'm gonna make a sprite comic!" and quit after four pages.

If anyone wonders why I'm making this list...well, I'm not completely sure myself. Since I can just click "more" on the lists it seems kind of futile...but I'm hoping to organize it into authentic OEL manga and Semi-manga...something so I don't keep running into as many sprites as I'm looking for the manga (not that I don't love all the other kinds of stories...please don't be mad because I'm compartmentalizing). I wish to peruse more of the manga here on the duck...see what we've got. Maybe do in-depth reviews on my blog or something.

Ive noticed that over the past month or so, people have taken more notice of Narou (which I see you've listed), but you missed my second and most favorite one, Oni No Noroi !!
I think a few people have looked at my list of comics and they just click the first one (Narou) and dont realize I have a samurai epic packed with bishies and gore.

btw, I love Gnoph, but I dont really think of it as manga-ish..
Its got more of a unique style to be classified as such.

Err, I dunno if you should include Warui.

That was my first webcomic which I made with a friend, but due to some problems, he couldnt work on it and the project died.

The writer decided to try posting it again because we did quite a few comics, but now he's m.i.a. again and I dont have all the files nor do I have the desire to edit anymore of them right now (its hard enough juggling 4 comics and working 60+ hours)

Maybe if people sent him lots of harrassing emails, he may get it back in gear.
Ive been taking a lot of the characters (cause I made some great ones for it)
and working them into my other stuff like Narou..

kaminari-yes, it is staying, I consider it semi-manga and WANT it on my list. :D I think that it looks great, and when I sort the list into semi/authentic and by # of updates then it'll work better.

You can't get a good list unless you start with a full list. Weeding out will be the hard part. :D But that's okay...I think that it will be a fun venture.

Why isn't penis a manga? Its got one dimensional characters, reads right to left, there are parts where people think their stronger then other people and power up for five episodes, then the ending is anticlimatic. Then they use their basic super attack of moon tampon magic, and that weeks enemy is gone.

My comic, penis, is definitly a manga.

While the post above states the issue in a rather provocative way, I think it raises a salient point: what makes a "manga" comic?

In my own negative and cynical way, I'd say there is no serious distinction ever since Choi and Lee started incorporating Japanese stylistic elements into Gen13 and other Wildstorms comics back in the mid-90's. Basically, there's a strain of American comics that uses Japanese style, but, given that they're written in English for an American audience, they're not "manga" if what one means by using the Japanese word that some degree of holy authenticity is gained. There are comics that just use more, rather than less, Japanese style.

I wanted to say thanks for adding my comic to the list. Its a manga. Yeah I draw realistic, but theres shiny eyes, shoujo bubbles, sweat drops even super deformed scenes along with a host of Japanese characters (later) so I'm glad it could be included. I wish you the best with your list. I only know of the ones you have mentioned. Hey you even included my 1 page azumanga doujinshi I have no time to work on XD
