I've been watching a few older Japanese movies that are re-imaginings of feudal Japanese horror folktales... Hellish Love (1972), Ghost In The Well (1957) and Kwaidan (1964)

Wishmaster III. Nice spfx and some good ideas but usual formulaic franchise horror.
Mystery Men. Why did I wait so long to see this? Very enjoyable and just plain fun.

love that flick
The Young Victoria
If you like period pieces, this is a good one. The Victorian/Edwardian era fascinates me, especially about how related all the European Crown families were.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, being shown because of Elizabeth Taylor. Stories about people who essentially love each other but screw up constantly and fail to communicate appeal to me, I liked it a lot.
I also watched My Name Is Khan, which is a Bollywood movie that's sort of about love, nationality, and mild autism. I liked it ok, though it spent a solid 30% of the running time trying to force me to cry.

The Matrix.
Haven't watched it for years because of the sequels tainting my opinion of it, but going back I was reminded just how great it is.

Bride of Chucky Reminded me how inventive and good slasher movies were after they discovered their sense of humor. Funny.
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas I like musicals and this one was better than I expected for its era. Then I really like the cast too.

Last film I watched was Forgetting Sarah Marshall which *wasn't* as bad as I thought it would be. I actually laughed at a few bits. Especially that piano scene near the end.
Before THAT, I saw RANGO in theaters and that was absolutely brilliant. I loved the character designs.

A Single Man.
Most films can't sustain having an actor in Every scene, but Colin Firth was amazing.
It's a beautiful, beautiful film --- but So sad. It's rated R for Really sad.

Watched Catfish the other night.
The advertisements made it seem like a horror movie like the Blair Witch project.
Kind of disappointed by it. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't all that great either.

I just read the synopsis for A Single Man. WTF is with that ending? Was that necessary? So cheap; I hate those types of endings.

absolutely necessary, imo. This is one time where a list of facts fails to provide the truth/heart of the story. the ending was resolution.

I know it's sad, and don't ask me why, but I just recently watched "The Killing Machine," starring and directed by Dolph Lundgren.
...and it didn't suck nearly as bad as I thought it would. It was actually alright, so far as brain-dead throwback action flicks go.

Crazy Heart
or part of it. Jeff Bridges definitely deserved the Oscar - totally convinced me that he was country singer.
thing is, I have a LOW tolerance for country music. The movie was so convincing I got bored before it was half over and turned it off.

I've seen two movies recently.
The first was Sucker Punch. It's a good movie if you like things that are absurd, or if you visit TV Tropes frequently. Also, if you trying to make sense of this movie, don't bother, I don't think it's supposed to make sense (but I mean that in a good way)
The second on I saw was Thor. I was wondering with the whole "Norse Gods are real" thing, but I think they managed to pull it off well. Overall, it's not as good as Iron Man (but only slightly), but it waaaaay better than The Incredible Hulk.

Thor is next on my hitlist. never got why so many people bash the incredible hulk though, it's decent enough and far superior to hulk by ang lee. Really want to see suckerpunch but it;'s not showing at cinema here anymore.
Watched Johnny mnemonic the other night for the first time in over a decade and it's better than I remember. Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination.

Yesterday I watched:
-4 seconds of Jesus Christ Superstar
-Half an hour of Billy Madison
-Ten minutes of Batman
-Twenty minutes of Top Gun
-Despicable Me
-...and...seven episodes of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic...which is not actually a movie and I shouldn't even have mentioned it because it is completely unrelated.

not bad, amusing enough good action in places but lacking something.

To tie in with another thread I watched the classic 1980's miniseries North and South Book II.
Except I was missing episode 5 so I missed half the wrap up of the plot threads.
From Patrick Swayze to Morgan Fairchild and Linda Evans they're all here and even Jean Simmons (the actress, not the rocker) and James Stewart show up!

Thor.
One part Lord of the Rings but with inferior CGI, two parts Flash Gordon with all those plastic-and-tinfoil costumes, and three parts fun.
In short, a good value-for-money popcorn movie.

Ultramarines the movie. A warhammer 40k cgi movie, it's pretty good, the woice cast are better than the quality of the animation but enjoyable enough.

I didn't put the spiler thing in because it really isn't spoiling anything major.
The romance is forced and stupid but that isn't what the movie's about...
I think.
I mean, c'mon! The girl just called her fiancee about missing him and then she scares away an alien because it was turned on by the TV and she unplugged the power to it, then she goes out to watch two of them mate and then kisses the photographer guy even though he's probably not had a wash since he was with the Mexican prozzy, the army comes in and pulls them apart in separate directions and it just ENDS there?!
I know it shows the army guys being killed at the start and so the two people probably died as well, but it would've made it more dramatic or an interesting ending if they HADN'T done that or at least repeated it from another angle.
