Is this normal, the update not being instantaneous? Is it lag at DD or photobucket? Just wondering..

The lag is related to hosting and your browser and or ISP caching. Nothing to do with DD unless you host the image here.
When you post code for displaying your pic, it's instant. -or at least as fast as your browser can render it ;)
