So since I don't think I saw a topic on this I thought I'd start one. I won't post anything plot specific but the movie while similar with the plot of the original "Karate Kid" easily stands on its own.
Though seriously it should have just been billed in America as "The Kung-Fu Kid". Like the original, this version focuses on what the true spirit of Martial Arts is, not the power to lay on a beat down but the inner focus and spirituality of the discipline. I was even surprised the Jayden Smith did so well he actually did an excellent job acting wise for a first time lead role. So go see it if you have not, seriously avoid the crappy Avatar movie and go for the err... remake... dang it Hollywood can't you be original anymore?

I've only seen the trailers on T.V. and i don't expect anything awesome so far. It looks more like fighting scenes than the old "grasshopper" stuff with all the sensless trining myagi used to do.
but i believe you, if I have enough monney I'll go see it.

I saw it and really enjoyed it. I agree it should be called the kung-fu kid because with the exception of the last 20 minutes it's almost nothing like the original. That being said, I liked this movie more than the original Karate Kid. The original was just so hoaky in everything it did, this movie definitely breathes a lot better.


Also, this is one of the best Jackie Chan movies in a long freaking time.

I was interested when it first came out, but for whatever reason it didn't open ANYWHERE in Hollywood. I think they eventually got it at the Chinese 6, but it's weird that no theaters in Hollywood had it when it came out.
