To me, I think most of the time when people use photos of themselves in their avatars it comes off self-indulgent; there I said it.

eh, i've got a theme. i've changed my avatar a few times but i like staying with my black n' white, crosshatched background with the character that represents me doing stuff like making faces, and carrying shrubbery. i suppose it actually matches me quite well.

i don't know if i judge people by their avatars as much as i judge avatars. some people just have fantastic avatars that makes me interested in who they could be and then there's some people who i've just come to expect certain avatars from- like product placement's 'for sale' avatar. if someone who is not pp used that avatar i would be beyond confused... they would be the evil twin...

I dunno what my avatar says. The character is designed by me. Drawn by rokulily. Colored by me. And now it is mocking PP.

Maybe it shows that background doesn't matter?

yep pretty much every avatar that I have used in the past year or so. (the picture I cropped everything but the guy in red with roll tide on the hoodie)
The only one that tells you almost nothing is the ship one. I am a suave sophisticated gentleman with a nice tan
