Millions of years ago, jellyfish were trapped in lake palau after a submerged reef rose from the sea, creating a landlocked saltwater lake. with not alot of predators the jellyfish have adapted to the new conditions by losing their sting. They have eight primitive eyes and algae that live within their cells. These algae are what the jellyfish live on. Twice each day, the jellyfish in the lake swim from one side to the other. The jellyfish do this to get sunlight to their internal algae so that the algae can grow. At night the jellyfish swim to a lower depth where the water is rich in nitrogen. The nitrogen also sustains the algae population. The jellyfish has only one main predator in this lake -- the sea anemone. Jellyfish can be stung, trapped, and killed by these creatures.

They live by photosynthesis because they cannot feed on anything in this lake. This lake is such a heaven to them that there are just so many of them living here.

Wow, that's really neat. They are still animals, though, living in a relationship with the algea. To be plants their cells would be different, they would need cell walls made of cellulose.

This planet sure is amazing~ Its like those animals that have evolved to live around underwater vents and things... you think you know the boundaries of livable habitats then somehow life just seems to bloom somewhere you thought would be impossible~ It really leads me to believe that life is just meant to be. :)

I don't care if they don't have stingers! I'd still piss myself if I saw that!

More animals do it than youd think. Corals, some clams...ok so mostly just sea beasts and normally theyre sessile but you get the idea.
