for Oscar from HtbR I got a 17: The Non-Sue. Your character is a well-developed, balanced person, and is almost certainly not a Mary Sue. Congratulations!

I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles ".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!

In other words, I am a Mary Sue.

So, why are we still trusting this test?
It's a comic!

Apparently, some of you match up with some really heavy cliches, making you Sues and Stus.

I do wonder if some of you are taking the tests correctly and are not skipping certain questions or refusing to answer some flat out. This test is for fun and really has no impact on your writing, it's just interesting to see if you embrace some of the sue/stu cliches.

Some questions are hard to answer, I faced that issue when taking the test, but when it doubt, I said yes. Does my character angst about a situation? I suppose, since when it's brought up he gets angry, but he never comes out of nowhere and laments an event, it's always triggered, so is it really angst?

So, the test is for fun, so when it doubt, just say yes and don't try to force the results, and just roll with it, it's much better that way. You shouldn't take it seriously.

Despite the odd abilities she, um *Acquires* without her knowledge, April got a 16.

Additional Character A (Appears in Chapter 1): 13
Additional Character C (Appears in Chapter 2): 25 (Probably due to her intelligence)

TFL - Too fucking long.

I'd love to do it for Tranny, but after about two questions I realized how long this quiz was. Online quizes are stupid anyway.

We've had a discussion about this test before... I'll say now what I did then: comic characters will naturally tend to score badly on this test because they're comic characters ;)

Even with such provisos as "is the behaviour normal for your world?", comic characters rely much more on the traits that are considered "bad" because they have to be more broadly written than a purely written character, and the detailed visual aspect also counts against them when it comes to sections of the test that talk about appearance -for obvious reasons.

The test is clearly biassed against a certain type of creative media and therefore can't be taken too seriously. -Appart form the the sections such as "would you like to be friends and have sex with your character?" and "Is your character a mouthpiece for your political views?", those are TRUE Mary Sue traits. -a lot of the rest are just tired cliches (or what the writer of the test thinks of as cliches at least)

Lilith got 18. :) But I think considering she's a cat, some of those questions were unfair - of course she's an evil genius with minions (me *le sigh* )and a reoccurring rival (the chihuahua) - she's a cat for goodness sake!

Elijah and Azuu got an 88 and a 73, respectively. Part of that is just that they're an angel and demon, and all the stuff that goes along with that.

I'm too lazy to try the other characters.

I disagree. If you take the test and you take normal to mean, "is it common." then yes, wolverine having metal bones is "normal." There are more occurances of people with the same traits.

Anyway, superhero comics get this the worst because most of their characters ARE mary sues.

I'll grant you that most of the test is based on cliches, but part of being a mary sue is being a cliche.

Not really, but according to the test they will be. Superhero comics aren't my thing, but they are as they are and have always had an appreciative audience, so to a great deal of people their writing style is just right.
SO- for those sorts of comic (and many related styles) a test that scores them as being "bad" in any way simply for being what they're intended to be is an inadequate test.

It's like giving an English language IQ test to a man who's first language is Mandarin and only knows a little English- the test will score him as being mentally deficient simply because it's not intended for him.

I still disagree but I'm glad you reworded it a bit. Frank Millers version of batman will score lower than the one from the old 70s tv show, or the kids cartoon.

Some people like camp and cliche. There will always be a market for really bad art and story. Superman, for instance, is the ultimate cliche. The best story he appears in is Dark Knight Returns. When Batmans choking the hell out of him and telling him he's a sell out. The only time I ever was glad superman was in a book.
