If anything WW2 is an over done subject.
Also most of the protrayals of it are hackneyed and cheesey with cliche Nazis who don't see smart enough to live.
Most versions of it I've seen just amke me roll my eyes (including saving private ryan and Band of Brothers...realism my ass! They were cheesey as hell!)

Hmmm....That's pretty interesting
Most of the comic I read didn't made Hitler stupid,But rather a weirdo and their guys are weirdo as well.(Goring is an Otaku,Probably because he is fat and he did collected(or robbed) a lot of paintings...)
General Rommel look like a bad joker. His bad joke make their tank army so mad and make them destroy everything in their way.A really bad one made a fortress Tobruk which endured two years to be conquered within a day.
He made The japanese emperor something like a alien(From alien vs predator).Anyone who disagree is deheaded by his deadly "tail".
This comic was really funny I even made a episode a "Music Video"...(You can find it at my account.Mery christmas one.)Even if he is at the "Dark side"of Korean Webcomic,His drawing is really inspiring.Unfortunately this coic actually have a contract that this comic shouldn't be imported because it might look like it suppport Hitler(Probably because he don't like an evil or stupid. He actually had a lot of trouble when few french people visitied his company and show the poster of this comic. But I think this comic is really good one.
Gosh...Out of topic again...I'm sorry.I wonder if there's any creative one here

Genre-bending or genre-crossovers, however, can be considered...

everybody hates WW2 because america spent the next half century bragging about how they won the war . i would say WW22 is not popular at all in the sense that popular = cool

lotharYeah, but it is popular in the sense that popular = everybody knows about it, millions are interested in it, and millions buy entertainment based on it- as well as other things.

I agree that it's hackneyed, overdone etc, but whatever- it IS actually very, very popular.
Even more than G-strings o_O

WW2 is practically all the History Channel talks about here in America. When it's not "Weapons of WW2" it's "Occult Mysteries of WW2" or "Technological Advancements of WW2". I'm really tired of the war. The whole trend has probably stolen the thunder of so many vets when their grandchildren said, "Shut up, Grandpa. I've already heard enough about the war."

I remember in school, WW2 was one of the two things we were ever taught in any pre-GCSE history lessons. The other one was JFK's assassination.
I'm not sure if this a common problem with our schools or if my history teacher was just a lazy fucker. It's probably both.

Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

It's a popular subject because so many countries were affected by it and chances are that 90-100% of our grandparents were either adults or children when it happened and can remember it in a fingerclick. It is THAT fresh in the minds of the public.
My hometown never forgets WW2. We got Blitzed and every time to mention the war everybody starts rating about when we got blitzed. Wikipedia says it was the greatest loss of civillian life in all of Scotland. It was mostly bombed because of it being a hub of battleship repairs and the creation of munitions, but some parts were bombed accidentally through the Luftwaffe mistaking a road after heavy rainfall for the Clyde Canal.
It's actually one of the only defining things about Clydebank now since they've gotten rid of the shipyards and the QE2 is going to Dubai instead. And I doubt we can get the Queen Mary back now.
Now I've moved to Liverpool I have to go past a bombed out Church on the way to college. And while I was growing up my mum told me passed down stories about what happened to her parents during the war here.
None of my notable grandparents or great grandparents fought in the war because they were in protected occupations, too young, dead years earlier or not around so I always got the civillian angle on things.
The only soldiers in the family from that time that I've been told about are both in-laws so they don't really count.
However, my mum has WW1 medals and my dad had a bayonet he had to get rid of when my sister and I were kids because of tougher knife and gun laws being enforced at the time. I remember him showing it to me and feeling annoyed that he was forced to part with history when he wouldn't hurt anybody with it. So there's a high chance I have stronger genetic links to soldiers from then instead. Also, Clydebank was where the Lusitania was built. The ship deemed instrumental in getting America involved in World War One.
As for me, I'm most likely carrying on the tradition of being a civillian for another generation. I have bad physical and mental health so the only thing I'd be able to handle unaided during a war is the jobs of my grandfather Jack and great grandfather Jock. Fire Watching or making munitions.
That is... if our enemies don't use nukes on us instead.

I am guessing since he posted this in comic discussion, he might have meant whether it's a popular topic for comics and not just modern culture in general.

I know that.
But the thing is, even if the subject isn't really either of the world wars, there will still be elements from them appearing here and there. Because personal experience and close to source references affect you as a person and will affect what you write.
I also think WW2 movies have gotten pretty stale. I think it's because they're mostly told from the same points of view. Our boys going all out against the enemy and succeeding.
It's why I held such promise for Valkyrie. But that was a let down.
But if you really want to see a good WW2 movie not based around the soldiers or singing nuns , I say go for this one:
EVERY KID OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND SHOULD WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!
There should be the ocmplete movie somewhere on youtube. It probably won't take too long to find. But it deserves DVD quality.
Anyway, the relevance? I would look at comics the same way. Give me an interesting viewpoint and I'll at least go a few pages into it.

I've actually really wanted to see this movie. WW2 is a popular subject in Japan too, but I tend to like to stay away from it if I'm not in the mood, the whole time period is such a downer... I understand that we should understand the hard times the generations before us have experienced, but a really sad WW2 movie/book/comic can be a major damper on your day...
