I personally don't--I'm a big Robot Chicken Fan...But, I happen to be from a Jewish Background...and then you're talkin' religion and yes...people are easily offended about such things. I feel that enough time has passed that it's okay, my grandfather was in Birkenau and saw his parents killed in front of him, he would not...I wouldn't say it's for everyone...I am very against censorship of any kind...so, to each his own.
I wouldn't say it's an all time low--since over three million died (numbers not totally accurate) in such death camps...Yeahhhh...It's still soft in a lot of families and minds...People are always 'gonna be offended by something.

Well, the basic point is that in no part of that entire clip do they make a joke about the holocaust or Anne Frank or Jews. If you make any joke and use a tragedy as the background, people will somehow get the impression you're making fun of the tragedy. What I wish is that more people could spot the true meaning. This is a joke about how Hollywood will take a real story and butter it up and make things that never happened for money.

I agree, however---some people--regardless of the intent of the sketch---will only see what they want to see---people love to gripe and feel outraged and the Holocaust is one of those buttons. It's like all the flack that South Park gets...Allegory is often misunderstood.

No, this is a joke on a show called Robot Chicken. The use action figures for stop motion animations and make short jokes like this. It won't be a real movie.

And what I'm sayin' is that---because of the underlyin' "religious" implications that I can kinda' understand some people gettin' miffed.

I deleted Cthulhu's post because repeated "heehee"s does not a contributing post make. :S This is the Debate and Discussion forum and as such, there are tighter rules here. Please reread the rules again if necessary.
Personally I like Robot Chicken and it runs on jokes like this. But I can understand people getting offended by this though. I can also understand Atom Apple's analysis of the joke however.

Hell, if anything, Anne Frank beats up the Nazis. It's like people thinking Middle-Easterners will be offended because someone made a movie where they beat up terrorists and save hundreds of lives. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that nobody actually finds this offensive? It's just that Americans who think they police the world are afraid people will be offended. That seems to be an extremely big and unnecessary problem. In fact, Jewish people are mostly the ones who enjoy that video.

The only problem with that theory is that the "real" (if she exists, remember that controversy a coupla' years ago) Anne Frank died in a concentration camp and never took out any Nazi's. Look at how offended people were at Team America World Police---I personally know quite a few Jewish people that found this insulting, so I'm wonderin' where you get your "facts."
I'm just playin' Devil's Advocate, here...I think it's cute and I'm glad you do too...
But, are you saying that under no circumstances can you empathize with someone who may find it offensive?

Well, that's what I'm saying but now I feel bad saying it. I'm sorry if you quite honestly find this offensive, I don't understand at all. In fact, I don't find anything offensive. I've moved on past that because I think it's, well, kind of foolish.

I agree--nothing offends me anymore; but I also have a really quirky dark sense of humor and you're right---it is foolish to get your knickers twisted over a "joke."

I think it's important to see it in its context though. I would imagine that anyone who gets angry about this would find Robot Chicken in general to be offensive. Family Guy and South Park might also get on their nerves as well.
I also noticed that the pranks that Hilary Duff plays in the clip is taken right out of Home Alone. So I can kind of see why some people might get upset about it. (For those of you who don't know, Home Alone is a movie about a boy who gets left behind by his family and is alone at home. He fends off these goofy thieves by setting up various traps in the house such as swinging a can of paint as they climb up the stairs, putting tacks/toy cars on the floor, setting their hair on fire, etc.)
Without knowing that Robot Chicken will pretty much hit everything under the moon, people may feel that it's trivializing the experience Anne Frank went through.

Exactly, but the fact that it's not even making fun of Anne Frank is what gets me mad.

I want to put in a good word for people who get offended.
I do find some things offensive. Not a lot. But some. And when I open my mouth and say "hey, that's really offensive," i am not practicing censorship. I'm not doing anything wrong. The government can censor you - i just have an opinion, just like everyone else. Even offended people shouldn't be censored.
See, censorship is a great evil - and we must always fight it. But you can also create a climate where people don't dare to speak, so that they will censor themselves. That's bad - even when it's the people who want to say things like "Wow, thats really offensive!"
In my family, we told a lot of jokes, and we had a rule. The more offensive your joke was, the funnier it had to be. You wanted to really be offensive and tasteless? Well, the joke had better be worth it.
I like that approach - but the world often gets it backward. For a lot of people, a joke is only funny if it *does* offend someone. I mean, thats why FOX TV exists, right? Because for many people, Joy only comes at the expense of others.
It's true - a lot of people are much too easily offended. That can be terribly annoying. And mostly, you have to let jokes be jokes, and cartoons be cartoons. And Robot Chicken can be pretty funny.
But when people are offended... they should probably speak up. The answer to bad speech is never less speech. The answer is always more speech.

Yes, but leaving a comment with the average intelligence of "DATS OFENSIVE U PIESE OF SHIT TAKE DIS VIDEO DOWN OR IL KIL UR FAMILY" isn't really the best approach. Really, even if you're offended it doesn't matter. Nothings gonna' happen. Maybe just let it out to some friends then drop it. You're only causing more problems if you make it public in such a stupid way.

Agreed!! and plus those people should realize that if they react in such a while, they're only giving the "offending" thing more attention than it deserves but not in the way the offended people intended. They'll lose face, and the "offending" thing will gain more popularity.
What could be worse, right? =P
Sometimes, it's just better to express how offended you are by just not having ANYTHING to do with the company that produces such stuff. Nothing hits harder on an company by refusing to buy their stuff or to even listen to them. Especially if you gather enough like-minded invdivals to do the same thing you're doing.
That kind of quiet protest is always more effective than going out there in public yelling: "Omg!! Robot chicken is SO bad and offensive!!1111!!!!!!!!" and going on the news to just make some lame statement about it.
I'm on hitatus while I redo one of my webcomics. Be sure to check it out when I'n done! :)

Some people enjoy being offended. Conservative or liberal, some people enjoy feeling that sense of moral outrage, just like some people enjoy fighting. Also, a lot of the people who would be offended are unfamiliar with robot chicken, and would probably be confused. It reminds me of an article I read about how parents were outraged after hearing that there was a new action figure that you could electricute. The article didn't say that the action figure was "Marv" from Sin City, and that it was a collectible that would not be sold in toy stores. I think a lot of offence is based on misunderstanding.

Personally? I thought that was funny as hell.
But people get really touchy whne it comes to anything to do with religion. So I'm not suprised that people got heated over it.
