I've noticed a trend in forum posts on here noticing trends in webcomics.
Webcomics are getting better drawn, getting worst, getting elitist, getting who knows what else.
I find the concept very odd.
Since we all make our comics in effective isolation from each other with no editor, I dont think the idea of a trend across numerous comics really makes sense, except for maybe copying concepts from popular comics.
If every other comics on DD got better or worse, or every comic writer became a huge snob or whatever, I cant see how that would have any impact on what I am doing.

Is there a trend to notice trends in webcomics?

tendency: a general direction in which something tends to move;
When ideas and things go places, trends usually form. They might be temporary like the stuff in fashion or permanent like sociopolitical viewpoints. Example, if twilight became 'holyshit' popular, chances are it's going to inspire a ton of people to jump onto the vampire craze for money or just because it inspired them, whether because they like vampires or knew they could do it better. (and this is what happened and is happening)
Just because you don't like vampires or twilight doesn't mean the trend is not going on or affecting other people.

a trend is simply a perceived pattern, so yeah. they're all worthless bits of subjective fluff that mean nothing, but they are in fact trends.

Well taking advantage of the bandwagon is what business does.
Remember Pokemon and all those fighting pet cartoons that followed?
It's a good thing for a quick fix, but just like popular humor the copies die out fast.
No one writes "This is Sparta" and "O rly?" humor anymore.
Except for lol cats. They are still laugh out loud.

ORLY is supposed to be funny? I thought it's just a useful shorthand/expression.

I noticed more and more stickman comics with ZOMG-RANDOM humor.
Not that I mind,but as for everything,90% of them are unfunny exept to the author(maybe).
"Cyianide and Hapiness" success probably caused that
