They have officially recreated a comic book into a movie.
yeah, I know...x men...spider man...great flicks...but this was....this was an awesome movie.
Of all the movies I have seen, this, by far , is the Best one that captures mans fear and hope for ones own invention. The Battles, the suit! This is the movie I have waited for. This movie was the sh!t. Robert Downey Jr is a Genius! and to see the Dude! as a bad guy just rocked! I want to see this flick again...but...the extra bonus...all of the trailers for the summer movies!!!
oh and...sneak in snacks...prices went up at the consession stand.

God it looks so good, and I had no idea until just recently that it was coming out so soon. Too bad I'm moving, I'll probably have to "yar har" a copy thanks to the amount of money I'm losing this month. :(

Shame, it's one I really wanted to see in theaters.

AWESOME MOVIE.........but dont leave until the end of the credits for a special treat.

I missed the post-credits sequence (but that nice Mr Tyler has since told me what happened!) so be warned kiddies - stay until the end! That aside, I'd have to say the final 20 minutes were disappointing. It was just too predictable and ... yeah, it was okay but ... nothing special.

Having said that, the rest of the movie is great stuff! The acting is excellent, especially from Downey who spends much of the film in monologue mode; the action scenes are dramatic; the plot is intelligent; and the humour is ... well, it's actually funny!

Oh, and the now obligatory Stan Lee cameo is not to be missed! Go see!

Most of your comic book movies, particularly those about superheroes aren't going to be riddled with plot twists. What more were you expecting from the ending? It's not like they're going to have the hero lose in the end. Plus the press conference at the end did surprise me a bit (I'll admit I don't read the comics, though). it was a complete 180 from the typical Superman/Spiderman/Batman scenario.

My husband and I watched it this afternoon. He's a HUGE Iron Man fan (he has the IM comic subscription mailed to him every month), so he was really looking forward to this movie. We both loved it. One of the theater managers came out and told us all to wait for the end of the credits to finish for a surprise, but we both knew what was coming. Heh. ...The theater manager was also kind enough to say "This is NOT Fantastic Four" (meaning, this movie is not gonna suck). ;)

I thought Downey did a great job. As Tony Stark, he was an alcoholic asshole who had his eyes opened. Maybe that's why Downey took the part. ...Most people know Jon Favreau as "The guy who was in 'Swingers'," but I like him best as the guy who was in Love & Sex , one of my favorite romantic comedies.

Anyway, it was a very good movie. I'm putting it up there with two of my other favorite comic book movies, Batman and Batman Begins.

Favorite moment in the movie? SPOILER HERE...

When Stark as Iron Man takes off to battle the bad guy and leaves Rhody behind at his house - Rhody turns and sees another Iron suit, then looks up saying...

"Next time, baby!"

That screamed sequel all over it! Bring on the WAR MACHINE!

Actually, they signed on to do a trilogy. Apparently the next film with deal with Starks's alcoholism, and that they cast that guy as Rhody under the impression that he would "make a good War Machine". Of course, they hired on Lando to be Two-Face back in 89 and we all know how that turned out.

I thought War Machine was the villain in this movie the way everyone at the theater kept talking about him. Guess not.

Anyway this was the best superhero movie I've ever seen. It even beats Batman Begins, because I could actually tell what was going on in the action scenes of this movie and Stark suited-up doesn't suddenly develop a throat condition like certain other actors...

Although Iron Monger does for some reason. That one baffled me. What practical purpose did deepening his voice have? Apart from that and the funky keyboard Stark pulls out half way through the movie, I didn't have any problems with the film. The pacing was good, the action was well choreographed, and the writing didn't have nearly as many painful moments as the X-men movies (let's face it, I liked those movies, but they had some really bad dialog at times). I also like how the character manages to keep his edge even after going humanitarian.

That's not fair. Unlock my thread. Your argument with this has always been that it's who has their thread started FIRST. If you think that this thread is the "unappropriate" place to talk about it, then you now have some idea about how what you did made me feel.

My point isn't that the good guy won. The disappointing factor was the the nature of the set up itself. I could hear the cogs turning in the producer's mind: "Hmmm - the hero is a guy in a metal suit ... what kind of villain could we have for the climax? I know - another guy in an even bigger metal suit! Oh - and he could defeat him with ... an explosion!"That kind of thinking is just lazy.

Seeing the DUDE cast in that role was very awesome.

Tony had a life changing experience which made him realize the role he played in fueling the fires of war rather than helping to save lives with more accurate and destructive weapons. Since he couldn't stop the wrong people from buying his weapons he decided to stop producing them altogether. With that setup, fighting another armored guy may seem predictable, but nothing else from the comics really works. It wouldn't make any sense to have all this buildup for the new pacifistic Tony Stark and then have him pitted against some random terrorist group, rival corporation, alien, mutant, or monster. There really isn't any villain from the comics who better exhibits Tony's fears than someone who is trying to force Tony out of his own company, steal his technology and sell it to the highest bidder.

Just saw it. Great movie. DC needs to step it up if it wants to keep up with Marvel on the movie front.

If I was stomping around in a big 2-legged tank, I'd want a kickass Darth Vader voice too. All the shoulder rockets won't do me any good if I just sound like some bald white old guy.

Hell, I'll add in the ED-209 lion growl too, as my car horn. That thing scared the crap outta me as a kid, when it growled.

I can't remember exactly, but didn't stark have some sort of a voice modifier when he was in the suit too? Its superhero logic, in order to confuse people so they don't know its really you when you're in your super get-up you need to A) Hide your eyes (Take off/Put on glasses), B) change your voice.

I never got the logic behind that whole idea but if theres one thing I've learned about superheroes its that you don't question the fallible logic, you just go with it :P

When Stark was talking to the Afghani refugees, I was so waiting for him to speak in their language. What good is a robot suit with a supercomputer talking to you remotely, if you don't even have a real-time translator for communicating with the locals?

Him speaking to them in American drawl just killed the whole thing for me, cuz it inevitably reminds me of how America f-ed the whole thing up with Afghanistan (by virtue of f-ing up Iraq, of course).

You get a sort of tinny sound out of it, but it still sounds like him. In Stark's case it makes more sense, though. He is supposed to be a superhero hiding his identity from both his enemies and the military. Iron Monger was developed to sell to the military. Viewing themselves as peace keepers rather than simply murderers, you would think they wouldn't want to make themselves sound evil.
