A while back in school, I woundered what sexuality people would be if they changed genders.
Really, I thought people would either become bi, or become gay, but I got very odd responses to my question.
Everyone that I asked said that they would like the opposite gender "becuase they are suppose to." O_o? Really, would you do that just becuase you became the opposite gender?

So, I wanted to ask you DDer's, if you changed genders right now, what would your sexuality be?
I personally would become gay. Becuase there are just to many hot guys in the world. XD

I'd be gay. But I'd be picky about the gay guys I was with. No overly perky ones for me.
I agree with you about the too many hot guys. Wouldn't want to give those up.

I think the question was more if your mind stayed the same, and only your anatomy was different.

That would be such a shocking experience it would likely cause extreme trauma.

Mind and body and more linked than you think... Unless we're talking about gender reassignment surgery sorts of transformations?

If I was a woman suddenly, I probably would prefer men. o_O

I sometimes have dreams (at night -- not ambitions, lol) in which I am a man. (I think it's because most of the TV/movies/video games I like have male protagonists.) Most of the time, it's a gender-neutral role, but if I end up mentioning/noticing any kind of attraction, it's always to a man. (And then usually I end up being a woman again as if suddenly my mind had to make gender adjustments.)

I honestly feel no sexual attraction to females. For that to change, I'd have to be an entirely different person. It's hard to say how much of that attraction a person's gender alone dictates. (I'd say it's far more complicated...)

If it was an instant gender switch-over, I think you'd still be attracted to the same types of people you always were. If you like women, you'd still like women. If you liked men, you'd still like men. If a "gender change," as in your scenario, involved only the swapping of gonads and body type (appearance), your "mate preferences" should not alter. If, however, you had a rewired brain/chemistry (like you were raised a different gender or were the other gender for MANY years), then all bets are off. It'd probably be impossible to predict the effects, and it would probably affect different people to different degrees and in different ways.

However, if you're homophobic, you'd probably try to "force" yourself to be heterosexual regardless of your gender.

I'm a guy. If I turned into a woman, I would still like women. I think that I would be lying to say I would be attracted to men, since I'm not attracted to guys now.

But Ozone hinted at an interesting aspect between mind and bodies, do you think you would start to be attracted to the opposite gender automatically, even slightly, from chemicals in your body? I don't know how it works, but people have bodily urges too (gay or straight, male or female) and those might change too.
It depends on how your body changes I would think.

Nevermind. There are aspects of both sexes that I like.

If I change genders but retain the same consciousness, I'd probably be lesbian.

But if the gender and the consciousness will change, I'd probably be heterosexual.

Actually, this is something I've thought about a bit. The answer seems to fall into one of three catergories: either you end up keeping the same tastes (still like guys/girls or both), adjust to the new form (still be straight, still be gay, go asexual 'cause you don't like the new equipment), or find something added (still maintain the same preferences but have your mind broadened to include something else).

So, really, you could think of it as the difference between someone who's straight and happens to currrently be male, or someone who likes girls and currently is male, if you follow my logic. Either way, you're true to your sexuality, just it's a less than clear difference when one's sex is more-or-less set.


Personally, I'm a straight guy, and if I got hit by a magical gender reversal, I'd probably be a straight girl. I can see attractive things in both sexes, but I find getting too physically intimate with another guy to be less interesting than same with a girl. Also, never really found lesbians that much of a turn-on. So... yeah, I'd still be straight.

For some reason this thread reminds me of the line Eddie Izzard used to use to describe his sexuality: "I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body."

I think I would be interested in women like I am now. Actually, I'm not really interested in women. But I'm not interested in men. I'm not really interested in anything. I have a libido problem. :(

Still, I would be more into women than men, I believe either way. I don't think that I would like or deal well with a man. Not for a domination complex, or anything like that, it's just that there are too many problems with them. Always getting off on almost everything (from what I've seen from my friends which has perhaps turned me away from getting off from anything), trouncing around and brandishing their sacks of testosterone, stuff like that. It's caused me to be a sort of androgynous dude.

I think I would make a really cool girl, though. And probably like my male embodiment, I probably wouldn't be interested in either gender.

I think no matter what happened, I'd always be into girls, even if I did become one. In my entire life I haven't had many good experiences with guys and I always have better friendships with the ladies in my life. So yeah, I'd probably just be a lesbian. If, of course, I could get over the fact that I now had boobs

If I overnight became a man, I'd probably still be borderline asexual. :P It'd be horribly awkward, though, what with altered hormonal balances and the addition of - and lack of - body parts.

This really makes me want to start a philosophical discussion about what "consciousness" IS, but I'll refrain and give the sensible answer: if your brain chemistry is screwed with, there's no telling what could result. Continuing the cop-out answer: case-by-case basis.

First of all, unless my female incarnation is hot, I wouldn't want the deal. Reason is that in the real world, female looks matter more than male looks, in all aspects of public/private life.

My mom's pretty, and my dad's prettier than my mom... I think I would've made a hot girl... wish I got some of those pretty genes; maybe if I was female I would've inherited some...

Aaaanyways, most likely I'd be a heterosexual woman interested in meaningful relationship with a man, but with absolutely no aversion to experimenting with lesbians.

It's like... the idea of 2 men together repulses me, but not the idea of a woman with a man, even if I'm not the man.

Unless my mind changed instantly with my body I'd still prefer women... However, the shock of the change would affect so much that you'd find me hanging over the gallows before the day was out...

I am wholly alien to the idea that one would even think of killing oneself just because his gender got magically switched. I'd consider it kinda fun, though I may wish to change back after a while. Being female is too much trouble.

I had a dream where this happened (actually I did it to get revenge on my spouse, but it was done magically so I really was completely female as opposed to surgery and hormones and the body was new, with the memories and experience the same but the mind was female)

I plotted out a novel based on it and since the hard wiring of the mind would change to an extent and there would be some difficulty adjusting to the changes since the memories would remain the same...

And I would be pretty good looking judging from my mother and sister.

As it is I can see beauty in both genders though I am firmly attracted to women, but if my body and the brain's wiring flipped so would my orientation. I'd probably be slightly bi but spend most of my time with guys as my memories would give me some insight into the mind of the "guy"
