going away - The Game Room

I'm tempted to return to StarWars Galaxies...

I played the game nearly 2 years straight. I was in a great guild and did lots of quests as well as flying/fighting in space. And then the "improvments" came. Suddenly I had to choose a new character class; the Creature Handler profession was taken out and all of the pets I had were useless. I was working on grinding Jedi when suddenly the class is available (when it shouldn't be THAT available). So anyway, I quit the game. This was years ago... 3 years to be exact. Now I'm tempted to get back in if only for the online space combat. Someone give me a good reason NOT TO COME BACK!!! Q_Q

Star Wars is for gay sissy fags so I guess if you're a gay sissy fag you'll go back to playing Star Wars.

Hows that for a reason not to? B)

A good reason not to go back to SWG? How about the game itself? ;) Controls suck, the graphics are horrendous, no clear quests; way too open. The player housing was a good idea, but it got way out of hand. (This is coming from my husband who played SWG before the "improvements"....he went back to it again for about five minutes, and then rememebered how crappy it was)

If you're looking for a good space MMO, there's EVE Online, as well as the upcoming Star Trek, Stargate, and Jumpgate Evolution , which focuses more on space combat (which sounds like something you are looking for). :)

I second EVE Online. I played as Cosmic Kramer, and my spaceship was called Top Of The Muffin To You!

My ship and i would travel space trying to sell muffin tops to pirates. Things did not go so well.

Jumpgate Evolution and Star Trek are still in development, I think. I haven't heard of Stargate before. What I liked about SWG was the space combat, the ability to customize your ship's abilities, and the ability to walk around and decorate your ship's interior. Made for quite a few guild parties back then (especially on the YT1300 I had). :)

Well EVE has plenty of space battles. But they're missing the whole walking inside your ship part. In fact, you can never exit your ship and can't land on any planets. They've been promising for a while now that they will include that into their game, eventually and it looks like they're finally coming through with that because they recently demonstrated a demo where you could exit your ship and walk inside space stations. They also previewed an atmospheric flight demo meaning that they're also contemplating on introducing a feature where you can finally land on planets.

Here's the Youtube account of the company that makes EVE. You can check out all the stuff that they like boasting about.
Those were my two cents.

For me, EVE is about tactical ship combat. You use a command menu to tell your ship what to do, and it does it. That doesn't equal the feeling of squeezing the trigger on your flight control and watching a burst of laser fire or a salvo of missiles leaving your ship and heading towards your intended target. I also liked the combat aspect of ships such as the YT1300... the more your ship got damaged, the more it showed internally. Your crew then had to scramble out of their seats with repair kits and try to mitigate/repair the ship damage to keep you in the fight. The two turrets were fun too...

*sigh* I hope JGE is as great as I was told. I already miss the bombing runs I did with my guildmates in my YT1300 (I named it the "Lucky Star" ) . :)

I'll admit that sounds cool.

Dear, god... the YT-2400

Here! Take a tour!

That was one ugly ship, and at the time I left you had to had fulfilled certain conditions to get it (don't remember what they were). ugh...

I will still prefer my YT-1300 if I decide to go back... which may be never... I bet there's still too many Jedi in the game (in a time when there's too few)...

I guess the best thing to do is wait for the Knights of the Old Republic MMO to come out. And hope it keeps this aspect of SWG when it does.

I'm not sure if the KOTOR MMO will have space combat; though this forum thread discusses it. So who knows. I hope it's going to be as good as they're hyping it up to be...
