Am I wrong in thinking that all the current gen systems aren't up to par?

No, since each system has a major flaw.

This is how I see it, now someone tell me if I'm calling this one wrong:

The 360 is a mess. Overheating. The loud fans. And of course, the worst of the worse, the disk read- oh I meant three rings of death. Best games for people that play games come out on the xbox. Xbox live is pretty great, but costs extra money. I was told on an xbox fan boy forum that my xbox is having the first stages of GPU failure, which I'm not sure what the hell a GPU is, but its supposed to lead to the three rings. I dread that day if and when it comes, I shall cry a single bloody tear and my head will explode, if just from an economic viewpoint.

The wii is a bunch of party games with the motion control gimmick tacked on. Zelda was a real game, but it was for the gamecube. Same with Resident Evil 4. Other games that are actually games, are terrible. Red Steel just had bad controls and the graphics looked like an early PS2/Dreamcast game.

And despite the fact that I am a Sony Fanboy now, I will go ahead and give the flaws I see on the PS3

It has slightly less games than the 360 (Majorly because a lot of cross-platform games are still goint to the PS2 instead). It also is a whole frikkin' lot more expensive. I've also heard that its online isn't as good as the XBox Live, but I've never used Live, so I wouldn't know. The 80 GB PS3 is a watered-down version, which has to use software emulation to be backwards compatible. The 40 GB one won't play PS2 games at all, though it will work just fine with PS1 games. So yeah, buy the 60 GB one if you want a PS3. You can always buy a new hard drive to put in if you need more space.

Other than that, I can't think of anything, though I know that someone else will.

Terminal's going to say hurfadurf Blu-Ray.

The differences in online are a matter of what you prioritize most. Microsoft uses primarily peer-to-peer networking for their Live service. It's one of the major reasons I would never pay for it. The only thing you are paying for with live is a matching service, everything else are features encoded in the game and forced on developers by Microsoft.

Sony's online often uses dedicated servers (although since developers are free to do things how they want, they can set up peer-to-peer networks like with Warhawk). Many online games actually have less lag on the PS3 (rather ironic considering downloads tend to be slower) than they do over Live. This is most likely due to the extra overhead created when the system must maintain constant contact with the Live servers, in game or out.

The downside is that some developers like the ease of having pre-built libraries for online functions and Microsoft will take away some of the burden of hosting your own downloadable content (not for free, but it does cost less than buying your own servers). Developers don't have a set standard they must adhere to, either, so some features that are required by Microsoft could be dropped on PS3 games if the developer doesn't see it as a worthwhile expense to include it. Supposedly, later updates, particularly those built around Home, will resolve some of this by creating a more standardized online matching system, but for now, it is up to the developer to create their own.

I was told on an xbox fan boy forum that my xbox is having the first stages of GPU failure, which I'm not sure what the hell a GPU is, but its supposed to lead to the three rings.

I haven't really read up on which component of the 360 causes the red ring of death, but your GPU is the graphics processing unit. It takes a lot of pressure off of the CPU (central processing unit) by performing many of the processes needed to plot out the graphical elements in software.

So yeah, buy the 60 GB one if you want a PS3.

I thought it was kind of strange when I went up to Sam's Club the other day and they had both the 60GB and 80GB systems. For some reason the 60GB systems without a game were priced higher than the 80GB with a game. I might expect something like that out of a small chain, but the price on the 60GB system was dropped and a major retail company like Walmart should know that.

As for which one you want to buy, it really depends on how badly you want to play PS2 games on the PS3. It doesn't improve the quality of the graphics all that much beyond a little texture smoothing. If you have a PS2 already, the 40GB might be a better deal.

New GTA IV trailer comes out tomorrow. According to a few gaming message boards, speculation and rumors are flying that it will show a solid release date.

I'm still guessing October 2008. Until I find out more information that is.

A suggestion for Inkmonkey or other moderator - If you would like to change the title of this to "GTA IV Thread" that would stop the slew of threads coming tomorrow when the third trailer is out. If anyone wants I can edit my first post to show off confirmed features, screenshots, box art, and other basic information. I would suggest from now on we do "mega threads" for upcoming or released games to avoid clutter. Just a suggestion. Also delete the console arguing posts. They should take that to gamefaqs.

I don't think that even Administrators can change a topic title. It's one of the problems this system has.

You probably would have been better off resurrecting a thread that a) was obviously about GTAIV from the title, and b) didn't stray off topic after the first post. Maybe something like this .

Yeah, it makes sense to keep them as separate threads at this point, since this one is more about technical aspects of producing games than GTA specifically.

I'd rather them delay a game and do it properly than rush it out on time and have it be buggy.

But then I have things going on in my life other than videogames, even the best videogames now are limited to the times when I don't have anything else I need to do, which are generally few and far between
